Russ Ware

Staff Writer
Russ is a UK-based Staff Writer for Versed Vaper who has been in journalism for more than two decades, having previously written for tech publications like Lifewire. He tried vaping in 2015 but the setup that he was using wasn’t quite right and so he didn’t enjoy it at first. However, after going back and forth between vaping and smoking for a couple of years, he started experimenting with different coils, power levels, and mixing his own vape juice. The rest is history and Russ has been a devoted vaper ever since. Russ is a passionate writer and he produces reviews, news, and well-researched informational articles for our site. When Russ is not testing or writing about vapes, he likes to travel, read true crime, and eat anything with lots of chilies.

Staff Writer, Reviews
Jamie is a Staff Writer for Versed Vaper with nearly 10 years of industry experience. After being a smoker for several years, Jamie discovered vaping when a friend bought him his first setup. Before joining the team, he spent three years as the Manager of a local vape shop, gaining practical experience with everything from pod vapes to rebuildable atomizers. He has also previously worked as a freelance writer for other tech and vaping media websites. Jamie now uses his knowledge and experience to educate others through his reviews. You’ll find Jamie on the weekend, toolkit in hand, surrounded by box mods, wicks, and wires, trying to get the perfect cloud.

Freelance Writer, Reviews
Daniel is a Freelance Writer for Versed Vaper. He started vaping in 2014 with his first device, the Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0. With a maximum wattage output of 11W and the device itself being roughly the same size as the first-ever cell phone, it’s safe to say he’s seen some immense changes in the vaping world. He used to smoke up to 20 cigarettes a day but hasn’t looked back since discovering the fascinating world of ohms and o-rings. On the weekends, you’ll find him cheering on his terrible soccer team, Birmingham City, or trying his best to convince his wife that vape clouds will not cause the wallpaper to peel.

History

Versed Vaper was founded in 2018 as a small team mostly based in Toronto, Canada. We quickly became a go-to source for vaping information and recommendations thanks to our in-depth and unbiased reviews; a position that we still hold to this day.

Since then, we’ve carefully expanded our team to include only the most knowledgeable and experienced vapers with a true passion for Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR). Today, we have team members all across the globe and help up to 500,000 readers a month in the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe and other parts of the world.

Versed Vaper continues to be known for its in-depth reviews, accurate information, and unbiased recommendations on the latest vaping products. We are grateful and thankful for each and every reader that we are able to reach and work hard to continue providing vaping information, reviews, news, and recommendations that you can trust.

Why we care

The team at Versed Vaper are just like you: vapers who want to stay informed and get the most out of their vaping devices. We don’t write about vaping because we have to, we do it because we want to. In this era of information that we live in, knowledge is power and we want to give our readers the knowledge that empowers them to make smart, informed choices about vaping as an effective Tobacco Harm Reduction tool.

We all know that cigarettes are bad news. When a cigarette is burned it releases over 5,000 different chemicals and more than 70 may cause cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. According to the CDC, there are around 480,000 deaths per year from smoking in the United States (including deaths caused by second-hand smoke). If you ask us, that’s 480,000 deaths too many.

But quitting smoking is hard. It is estimated that an average of just 5% of people who quit smoking cold turkey will succeed in stopping for longer than 6 months.

Although vaping has not been approved as a smoking cessation product in prominent markets like the USA, there is high-level support and promotion of e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation treatment option in countries like the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Studies have also shown that vaping is up to 95% less harmful than smoking, providing strong evidence for vaping as an effective Tobacco Harm Reduction tool.

To date, there have been no deaths reported to be caused by vaping nicotine-based liquids alone. That is a striking statistic (or lack of statistic) considering that approximately 8% of the US population, or around 27 million people, use a vape regularly.

Vaping can be a powerful tool but you need the right setup to stick with it. That’s why we’ve published hundreds of articles and reviews that tell you when something is awesome, average, or just plain awful. We live, breathe, and sleep vaping and this allows us to give our readers powerful insights and the expert information they need in order to get the best vaping experience possible.

How we test

The feedback and recommendations that come from our team members is supported by decades of combined vaping experience. We take great satisfaction in our independence and meticulous review-testing procedures and work hard to bring you the most accurate and honest vaping reviews on the web.

Our team of world-class vaping journalists includes not only subject-matter specialists but also the same people for whom we write reviews: those who are interested in using and learning about the greatest and most effective vaping products available.

This is our promise to you:

  • Our integrity cannot be bought. We do not accept payment to give products positive reviews. Our reviews are completely honest and we retain complete and final say over the content of our reviews.
  • We have never, and will never, accept payment to place a product on any of our buyer’s guides.
  • We review what we believe our readers want to see.
  • We’ll tell you the honest truth about if we think a product is good, average, or just plain awful; not what the brands want you to read.
  • If a product doesn’t meet our high standards, we’ll tell you why.
  • We test products as real vapers in real-world usage scenarios.
  • We test each product for a minimum acceptable number of days before writing our reviews to ensure that each and every product is thoroughly tested.
  • We do not allow brands to preview our reviews before publication.

Our rating process

We use a five-star rating process to keep things simple and easily understandable. One star means a product that you should avoid at all costs, five stars means a product that you can buy without hesitation.

Vaping products can be very different from one product type to another; it wouldn’t be sensible to rate a box mod in the same way as we rate a disposable vape. Because of this product variation, we rate our products based on a number of different attributes and criteria depending on the product type.

For example, disposable vapes are rated on different criteria than pod vapes, and pod vapes are rated on different criteria than box mod and tank kits.

Examples of attributes that we use for rating are:

Design & Build Quality: How is the appearance of a product? Is it attractive and practical, or ugly and unorthodox? Is it made of high-quality materials or does it feel cheap? How is the fit and finish?

Features: Does the product offer the features that you would expect from a good, modern product of its type?

Usability: Is the vape easy to use with the features that it offers? Is it better suited for beginners or for experienced vapers? Are the buttons and screen (if offered) in the right place? If there is a UI, is it easy to navigate or convoluted?

Performance: How does the device perform overall? Does it provide a good vaping experience or does it leave something to be desired? In the case of disposable vapes, pod vapes, and tanks, how is the flavor that the product provides? Does it offer good vapor and good vapor quality? Is the draw smooth?

Battery Life & Charging: What is the battery capacity and how long does the battery last during regular use? Are you going to be recharging frequently or is this a device for road trips? Is the battery the expected capacity for a device of its size? How fast does it charge? Does it support pass-thru charging?

Value: Is the product a good value for the price when considering all that it offers? In other words, for the quality of the design and construction, the features that it offers, the battery life, usability, and performance, is it worth spending your hard-earned money on?

Why trust us?

We don’t give good reviews or recommend products on our buyer’s guides because a company asks us or is incentivizing us to do so; a good review on Versed Vaper means that we truly believe that the product deserves it. Our integrity cannot be bought and we have never, and will never, accept payment to give a product a positive review or to place a product on our buyer’s guides.

We solely determine the products that we review and place on our buyer’s guides. We remain completely independent and always tell it as it is, regardless of what a brand may want us to say. Our buyer’s guides and reviews are, and will always remain, completely honest. We retain complete and final say over their content to bring you honest information that you can rely on to help you make your purchase.

While we sometimes purchase the products that we review, we often receive products directly from the manufacturer. However, this does not in any way affect our thoughts or opinions on the product. Oftentimes, receiving the product directly from the manufacturer is the only way to review a product before it hits the shelves. No matter how we acquire our products for review, our review team tells it as it is and does not sugar-coat their thoughts or opinions.

But we don’t just stop with what we think. We pay attention to the thoughts of vapers in the community. Who would know better than vapers out there using the products every day? Practical experience with vaping products is often the best indicator of what’s really good. If something doesn’t hold up for the average vaper, we can’t give it our recommendation.

Affiliate & advertising disclosure

Versedvaper.com is a professional vaping media & review website. At times, we receive free samples of vaping products to test and review. We provide only honest and unbiased reviews and our opinions are always truthful, regardless of who or where we received the device from.

We also need to pay our team members and website costs, so we make money in a number of different ways. One such way is through affiliate links, also known as referral links.

As part of our reviews and buyer’s guides, we provide links to online retailers where we may receive compensation if you make purchases through them. This does not in any way affect the price that you pay and helps us continue to provide the best product recommendations, news and reviews.

We offer banner advertising spaces on our website, which are paid for by brands looking to increase their exposure. These advertising banner spaces are clearly marked as such. Additionally, we also publish sponsored press releases that are paid for and written by brands. When this is the case the content is clearly marked as sponsored, so you’ll always know which content is sponsored and which content is not.
