The bottom line

As the first disposable vape that I’ve tried from Dojo, I’m very impressed by the Sphere X. It’s a wonder that this device packs 20ml of ejuice and the capability to deliver 40,000 puffs, all without being absolutely massive.

I love the design and the 360° surround screen is a beauty to look at, although I know that it won’t be to everyone’s taste. It’s very bright and you can’t turn it off, and this might be enough reason that this device isn’t for you.

Battery life, charging speed, and longevity are all areas where the Sphere X exceeds expectations. The fact that the draw remains consistent as the battery life and ejuice are depleting is also a huge plus for this device. While I didn’t get a chance to try all of the available flavors, the five that I tried were quite tasty and for the right vapers, they’ll be perfect.

The one major thing to keep in mind about the Sphere X is the strength of the draw, which is very powerful. ECO mode hits just as strong as other disposables in their highest output mode, and these are 50mg (5%) disposables, so they will knock your socks off if you’re not prepared.

If you can handle the bright, fancy display and intense draw, the Dojo Sphere X easily gets my recommendation.

You may not have heard of the DOJO brand, but they’re a company that specializes in disposable vapes. Currently, they offer four disposables but it’s their latest one that I’ll be reviewing today, the Sphere X.

The DOJO Sphere X is not ‘just another’ disposable vape either. Firstly, it has a 360° surround screen that is unlike anything I’ve seen before. It also offers up to 40,000 puffs – the highest number of puffs on the market right now. Other specs include a 1100mAh battery with Type-C charging and a quad mesh coil for intense flavor.

Without further ado, let’s get into the review!

These disposables were sent to me by DOJO for the purpose of this review. However, this does not in any way affect my thoughts, opinions, or ratings in this review.

  • Size: 91.2mm x 55.7mm x 28.3mm

Design & Build Quality

  • DOJO Sphere X Disposables - 14

Since the Sphere X comes pre-filled with 20ml of ejuice for up to 40,000 puffs, you might think that it’s a humongous device. Surprisingly, it’s not; at least it’s no larger than other high-puff disposables like the Geek Bar Pulse X. In fact, it’s actually a tiny bit smaller.

At 91.2mm by 55.7mm by 28.3mm, the Sphere X is a really nice size for what it offers. It’s still big when compared to other mid-puff disposables though so just don’t plan on carrying more than one of these with you at a time.

The front and back of the Sphere X are flat while the sides are curved. It’s a great shape to grip fully in your hand and it feels really comfortable to hold. It’s a bit too large to be fully concealed though, and this poses a bit of an issue in dark spaces.

Why? Well, the 360° surround screen on the Sphere X is gorgeous but it’s also very bright. This device can literally light up a dark room and there’s no way to turn it off completely. It’s a minor issue but it’s something to be aware of nonetheless.

As I said, the screen is gorgeous. It’s a 5” screen that wraps entirely around the device and takes up 95% of the Sphere X, save for a solid band that runs vertically down one side. The first part of the display, which is displayed on the front side of the device, is much like other disposables. It has a lightning bolt icon and the battery percentage on top, and the e-juice percentage and a drop icon on the bottom.

  • DOJO Sphere X Disposables - 1

The rest of the display is a “starry” theme that reminds me a lot of the display on the Geek Bar Pulse X, just without the constellations. When set to the first of the two modes that the Sphere X offers, ECO mode, these stars span around the sides and to the back of the Sphere X. Here on the back, you’ll find an astronaut in a space suit standing on a planet.

This depiction of a lonely astronaut looks very cool, no doubt, but it gets even better when you put the device in its second mode, Power. A galaxy appears above the astronaut and a planet wraps around the front side of the device. It’s a super cool design for a disposable vape and I personally like how it looks, but I can see it being too flashy for vapers who want a more understated and subtle device.

Overall, the Dojo Sphere X looks really classy. On the vertical band that runs down the front of the device, there’s a medium-sized Dojo logo, the name of the device, Sphere X, and the flavor in small print. These are printed in shiny lettering on top of the image of a slightly holographic galaxy.

It’s obvious from the design that a lot of planning and attention to detail went into the Sphere X. Even down to small details like the miniscule, shiny speckles in the plastic casing, which are only visible if you look closely when the device is off.

Features

DOJO Sphere X Disposables - 12

The main feature of the Sphere X is quite obviously the 360° surround screen but there’s more to this device than just a fancy light show. At 40,000 puffs, this is the highest puff disposable that I’ve ever seen, let alone reviewed. From what I can tell, this is the highest puff count disposable available on the market today.

The Sphere X has two modes: ECO and Power. Eco mode delivers a weaker draw than Power mode and it’s in this former mode that the device is rated for 40,000 puffs. If using Power mode, you can expect to get 20,000+ puffs, which is still a lot of puffs. The mode can be changed using a switch on the bottom of the device. There’s also an “OFF” setting which allows you to turn the device completely off.

In addition to the ultra high puffs, the Sphere X has quad mesh coils inside. Yes, that’s four mesh coils inside of the device that vaporize the eliquid. The Sphere X also has an ultra-large capacity, 1100mAh battery with intelligent voltage control. Their website says that this “delivers lasting, powerful performance, significantly reducing flavor degradation and elevating consistency by 30%”. I’ll speak on these claims a bit later in the “How do they vape?” section of this review.

The airflow control is tied to the mode selection switch. There are three airflow holes in total and all three are open when the device is in Power mode. In Eco mode, only two of the three holes are open. As a result of this setup, Eco mode gives a tight mouth-to-lung draw and Power mode gives a draw that is slightly looser, but still a tight mouth-to-lung draw.

The Sphere X is currently only available in 50mg/ml strength.

Flavors

DOJO Sphere X Disposables - 2

The Dojo Sphere X currently has 13 flavors available at the time of writing this review. The majority of these flavors are fruit flavors, with two mint options and three fruit/ice flavors. The full list of available flavors is:

  • Berry Blast Triad (Blueberry, Raspberry, Strawberry)
  • Blue Star (Blueberry, Raspberry, Rainbow Candy, Ice)
  • Fresh Berry Orange (Orange, Raspberry)
  • Fresh Splash (Honeydew, Lime, Mint)
  • Frozen Grapefruit (Pomelo, Grape, Raspberry, Ice)
  • Grape Mojo (Green grapes, Red grapes)
  • Hawaii Dream (Orange, Mango, Pineapple, Honeydew)
  • Miami Mint (Mint, Ice)
  • Pink Lemonade (Lemon, Strawberry)
  • Strawberry Slam Dunk (Strawberry, Watermelon)
  • Tropical Bomb (Kiwi, Guava, Passion Fruit)
  • Watermelon Ice (Watermelon, Ice)
  • Wintergreen Mint (Mint, Wintergreen, Ice)

For this review, Dojo sent me five of these flavors. These are Blue Star, Miami Mint, Pink Lemonade, Tropical Bomb, and Watermelon Ice. I’m going to describe how these flavors taste to me and what I think of them. However, keep in mind that just because I like a flavor that does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I don’t like a flavor this does not mean that you will not like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Blue Star

Blue Star is Dojo’s version of Blue Razz Ice. It’s a bit sweeter and more candied than most other blue razz flavors and the cooling is noticeable but not too strong. I like the candied twist on this flavor and after trying it for the first time, it quickly became my go-to Sphere X flavor to use.

Miami Mint

This is a sweet mint flavor that is more sweet than it is minty. It still has a lot of cooling going on but the sweet mint taste is the clear dominant flavor. It’s very fresh and clean tasting and it really wakes me up in the morning! I’ve come to like this flavor with a coffee when I get up, but I don’t use it much during the rest of the day.

Pink Lemonade

This lemonade flavor is a mix of strawberry and lemon. The lemon part of this flavor is very strong, with only an aftertaste of strawberry. It’s mildly sweet and I would like it to be a little bit sweeter but it’s quite good as-is. With a lot of other lemonade flavors I’ve felt like the lemon flavor isn’t strong enough but that’s not the case here. If you like strong lemon flavored vapes then you should give this one a try.

Tropical Bomb

This mix of kiwi, guava, and passion fruit tastes good don’t get me wrong, but it tastes jumbled. All of the individual fruit flavors are mixed with one another, making it hard to discern when I’m tasting which fruit. This leads to the flavor tasting very fruity but muted on the individual flavors. It’s not a bad flavor but I think that it could use some reworking.

Watermelon Ice

Watermelon Ice has become a staple flavor among disposable users just as much as Blue Razz Ice. Lucky for Dojo (and for me), this one is a winner. It’s not as sweet as other watermelon ice flavors but the watermelon flavor itself is very well done in terms of the recreation of a natural taste. The ice portion is perfectly balanced too, cooling just the right amount to add a little punch to the flavor.

How do they vape?

DOJO Sphere X Disposables - 5

The first time that I tried vaping on the Sphere X, I had it in Power mode and I nearly coughed up a lung. The draw in Power mode is extremely strong and dense, so the 50mg/ml ejuice inside really packs a punch. After this, I set all of my devices to ECO mode and that’s how I’ve been using them for 95% of the time.

Even in ECO mode the draw is still very strong. ECO mode on the Sphere X feels similar in strength to other disposables that are set to their highest output setting (Pulse, Boost, etc). After getting used to the draw in ECO mode I was able to take a few puffs in Power mode without keeling over, but it’s not my preferred way to use these disposables.

This is a key thing to keep in mind with the Sphere X; it’s only available in 50mg strength (at least for now) and the draw, even in ECO mode, is very strong. If you’re not used to high-strength disposables then these are going to kick your butt and you may not enjoy them. I would suggest, at the very least, that you should be used to other 5% disposables on their highest power setting before thinking of trying the Sphere X.

Of course, this very strong draw will also be a plus for some users. If you’ve used 50mg disposables and found that they weren’t enough to keep you from going back to smoking, these might be just what you need.

Another noticeable positive to the Sphere X is the draw and flavor consistency. The strength of the draw does not change with the battery charge going down and I got a strong, consistent draw all throughout the battery range. The flavor and draw also stay the same right up until the ejuice is finished, without any change whatsoever in the performance.

How long do they last?

DOJO Sphere X Disposables - 19

The battery lasts a long time, that’s for sure. I got three to four days out of each charge while using ECO mode and the device works right down to 0% battery. The battery life readout is accurate and tracks the battery percentage down to 0% consistently, without any large jumps from the readout. I’ve had other devices go from reading 20% to 5% battery in just a few puffs, but this doesn’t happen with the Sphere X.

Each charge uses about 20% of the ejuice, so you can expect to be able to recharge the device four times before the ejuice is completely depleted. If we go by my experience of 3-4 days of use and 20% of ejuice per charge, each Sphere X will last for 15-20 days if used exclusively in ECO mode.

Charging is very quick, which is a nice plus for this device. A full charge takes around 45 minutes when plugged into a wall charger with a good Type-C cable. There’s minimal downtime with the Sphere X so even if it’s your only disposable, you won’t be without it for too long.

It also supports pass-thru charging so you can use it while it recharges, just not if it’s completely dead. In this case, you’ll have to give it a few minutes to get some charge before you can start using it.
