Flonq Ultra Disposables

Flonq Ultra - 2

The bottom line

The Flonq Ultra really stands out in the disposable vape market with its unique surfboard-inspired design and vibrant colors. Beyond its looks, its sleek and compact form makes it easy to carry around.

The addition of two separate modes is a welcomed feature, though switching between normal and boosted modes can be tricky depending on the individual device’s quality.

The flavor variety is impressive, with White Gummy and Passion Fruit Icy being hard to put down. However, other flavors fall slightly short in terms of depth. The artificial banana and strawberry flavors can become a bit sickly after a few minutes.

While the lack of airflow control might be a downside for some, the overall vaping experience is smooth and enjoyable. The battery life is great, but don’t expect fantastic results if you vape exclusively on boost mode.

Despite a few quirks, like its inability to stand upright and unclear wattage and e-juice information, the Flonq Ultra delivers solid performance.

If you’re looking for a fun and flavorful vape that doesn’t skimp on style, this could be your next go-to.

The Flonq Ultra is one of over ten products offered by Flonq. It’s a high-puff disposable that offers up to 20,000 puffs and which comes with two output modes: normal and boost.

It’s a simple disposable vape in terms of usability but it still comes with a few features like an LED screen for battery and ejuice readouts, as well as a dual mesh coil for improved flavor. Each Flonq Ultra has a 650mAh battery that recharges with Type-C charging and there are 25 flavors available to choose from.

If you’re looking for a new disposable vape to add to your collection, is the Flonq Ultra worth purchasing? I used a few flavors for just over a a week to find out.

Design & Build Quality

Flonq Ultra - 2

Straight off the bat, the Flonq Ultra is an eye-catching piece. The design is inspired by a surfboard, and while that analogy might seem a bit odd at first, it makes perfect sense once you use it. The device is smooth and silky, just like a freshly waxed surfboard, giving it a sleek and stylish feel. The colors are fantastic too! Unlike many disposables that stick to boring hues, the Flonq Ultra brings vibrant, flavorful colors. Kudos to Flonq for their impressive color palette.

When it comes to shape and size, the Flonq Ultra nails it. Its form is reminiscent of a rocket about to launch, fitting perfectly with its rocket-themed strength button that ramps up the flow and power of the vape (more on this later).

Weighing in at just 65 grams and measuring 25 mm x 51 mm x 100 mm, it’s incredibly lightweight and compact, making it perfect to slide seamlessly into your pocket.

But a big pet peeve; it can’t stand up on its own. If you like your vape upright on the table, you’re out of luck – this one’s designed to lie face or back down only. Despite that, the overall comfort and usability are still top-notch!

One of the standout features of the Flonq Ultra is its centered LCD screen. This strip runs from the mouthpiece at the top down the center of the device, cutting off a few centimeters from the bottom. The LCD screen’s curved design complements the device’s overall sleekness perfectly.

To turn the device on, simply vape from the mouthpiece or press the circular button located at the bottom of the LCD screen. The screen displays three icons: a power icon (showing how much power is left), a juice icon (indicating remaining juice), and a rocket icon. Initially, the rocket icon appears grey/white, indicating ‘normal’ power mode. Press the power icon again while the screen is on, and the rocket turns red, signaling ‘boosted’ power mode.

Turning the device on is a breeze, but switching between normal and boosted modes can be tricky. Out of the six devices I tested, two had issues with the power button, making it difficult to toggle between modes. While this isn’t a major flaw, it’s something to keep in mind if you decide to invest in the Flonq Ultra line.

As mentioned previously, the mouthpiece is actually part of the LCD screen material, creating a sturdy, plastic mouthpiece. It’s decent sized, sitting at 3.6 mm x 7.6 mm, which helps deliver a better flavor and vape distribution experience. Flonq also includes a removable mouthpiece cover, which is a nice touch – the last thing anyone wants is pocket debris in the mouthpiece while vaping. This thoughtful addition keeps your vaping experience clean and enjoyable.

One downside of the Flonq Ultra is the lack of airflow control. This could be annoying for those who like to customize their vaping experience, especially if you prefer less airflow for that harsh back-of-the-throat hit. Personally, I found the airflow to be just right, but if you’re someone who likes to tweak the airflow settings, you might find this a bit limiting.

Features

Flonq Ultra - 4

If you’re looking for a disposable packed full of nifty features, the Flonq Ultra might not be your best bet. Sure, it has cool rocket ships indicating normal or boosted mode, but that’s about it. Like most disposables, there’s no puff counter so unless you’re diligently counting each puff, you’ll have to guess when the device will run out completely. The LCD brightness isn’t adjustable either, though that’s not uncommon in disposables.

However, it does include a lanyard hole on the back… *sarcastic cheers*.

The power and juice level indicators look nifty, but they’re presented in odd increments of six. This makes me wonder if each increment truly represents 16.6%, or if they just chose six notches for design purposes. Either way, it’s peculiar. If you’re like me and prefer to charge your device before it hits the last notch, you’ll have to guess with this one.

As for the output wattages, the Flonq Ultra clocks in at ‘no-idea’ in normal mode and ‘again-no-idea’ in boosted mode. And no, this isn’t a writing error; there is literally no indication anywhere of the power of this device. After thoroughly checking the boxes and the website, I found absolutely no information about the specific wattages this device puts out. Very strange but it is my job to give you some idea, so if I were to estimate based on other devices, I would say that the Flonq Ultra outputs between 10-12W for normal mode and 20-22W for boosted mode.

Each Flonq Ultra has a 650mAh battery built-in and they recharge with Type-C charging. More on the battery and battery life in the performance section of this review.

Overall, feature-wise, the Flonq Ultra is just a little better than average. If your goal is a vape-and-go disposable with a cool, if somewhat mysterious, power feature, the Flonq Ultra’s no-nonsense design might be just what you’re looking for

Flavors

Flonq Ultra - 1

Flonq Ultra has a wide range of flavors, meaning there’s something for everyone’s preference (even you tobacco-ites!). In total there are 25 flavors available. Here’s a full list of what they offer:

  • Banana Icy
  • Blue Razz Icy
  • Blueberry Mint
  • California Cherry
  • Cherry Cola
  • Clear
  • Cool Mint
  • Grape Icy
  • LA Mint
  • Lemon Mint
  • Matcha
  • Menthol
  • Mexican Mango
  • Passion Fruit Icy
  • Peach Icy
  • Pineapple Icy
  • Sour Apple Icy
  • Strawberry Banana
  • Strawberry Kiwi
  • Strawberry Mango
  • Strawberry Watermelon
  • Tobacco
  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Watermelon Icy
  • White Gummy

Flonq were kind enough to send me a smorgasbord of their product with six ones to try. I’m going to describe how these six flavors taste to me and what I think of them. However, keep in mind that just because I like a flavor that does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I don’t like a flavor this does not mean that you will not like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

White Gummy

The White Gummy flavor is fantastic, capturing the exact taste of clear Haribo gummy bears on both inhale and exhale. It’s smooth with the perfect amount of sweetness, making it an all-day vape. It isn’t too sickly, and I kept coming back for more throughout the day.

Strawberry Banana

Strawberry Banana features a strong strawberry flavor on the inhale and a subtle hint of banana on the exhale. While it’s enjoyable, the taste is fairly generic and doesn’t stand out much. It’s pleasant but wouldn’t be my first choice for a go-to flavor.

Sour Apple Icy

Sour Apple Icy fails to deliver the expected sourness, but it does have a noticeable icy hit on the inhale. Unfortunately, the overall apple flavor tastes quite chemically, which detracts from the vaping experience and makes it less enjoyable for me.

Lemon Mint

Lemon Mint combines a robust lemon flavor on the inhale with a sweet, minty exhale. While the initial taste is enjoyable, the strong lemon can become a bit monotonous after a while, making it less appealing for extended vaping sessions.

Peach Icy

Peach Icy offers a pleasant peach flavor that strikes a balance between weak and strong. The icy component is almost undetectable, making it come across as a straightforward peach flavor. Despite this, it remains an enjoyable and satisfying vape.

Passion Fruit Icy

Passion Fruit Icy is a standout, providing a fantastic passion fruit taste on both inhale and exhale. The icy element is subtle, but the overall flavor is so delightful that it keeps me coming back for more. It’s a refreshing and enjoyable option for any time.

Overall, the flavors were noticeable but not strong or overpowering. If you’re looking for a flavor-only experience, this might not hit the mark. As I mentioned above, my favorite flavor was the Gummy Bear. I was able to vape smoothly throughout the day without any flavor changes once throughout the week of testing. Top quality taste!

How do they vape?

Flonq Ultra - 3

Flonq sent me the 5% nicotine range, which is quite an increase from my usual disposable levels. Nevertheless, it was still a relatively enjoyable vaping experience once I overcame the initial shock of the nicotine surge.

For me, vaping on the normal setting was enjoyable. This level provided a cool inhale and exhale, with a decent throat hit. In fact, I shocked at how smooth the MTL experience was, considering there’s no form of airflow control. It seems the boys in the lab have put some serious time and effort into finding that perfect draw for the MTL vapers out there, good job guys!

The boosted mode was quite different, offering a much heavier vape with a warm inhale, cooler exhale, and a very powerful throat kick. The throat kick was a bit too intense for me, but that was likely due to my body adjusting to the higher-than-normal nicotine levels.

The dual mesh coil certainly did its job well, providing a decent flavor experience at the boosted level.

Moving on to battery life, these devices are quite impressive. In normal mode, a full charge with moderate usage lasted around 1.5 days, which is notable in the disposables world. Boost mode, however, is a different story. Vaping at maximum power significantly reduces battery life. I managed to get just under three-quarters of a day in this setting, starting from a full charge at 7am and vaping frequently until around 4pm before needing to recharge.

The Flonq Ultra boasts an impressive 20,000 puffs from 18ml of e-juice, and I found this estimate to be fairly accurate. After a week of continuous use, the e-juice counter was at the third notch (out of six), suggesting the 20k puffs should last around two weeks on a normal setting. However, I doubt these numbers would hold if the device is in boost mode. Assuming the wattage doubles in boost mode, you could expect about a week of usage.

Verdict
