Medterra CBD Topicals Review: A Cream for Every Need

Medterra is a premium CBD brand that carries a full line of high-quality CBD products. If you’re looking for a certain type of CBD item, chances are that they have it. They offer CBD oils, gummies, tinctures, topicals, and capsules. They even carry CBD for your furry friends in the form of CBD chews and drops for cats and dogs. At this time, Medterra doesn’t make any CBD products for vaping.

All of their products start at American hemp farms in Kentucky and are grown without the use of herbicides and pesticides. All of their extracts go through independent, third-party lab testing to ensure safety, consistency and quality. These Certificates of Analysis are easily available on their website. All of Medterra’s CBD products are made with CBD that has been derived from hemp, not marijuana.

Today I will be testing out a few of their CBD topicals: one for skincare, one for muscle and joint soreness, and one for general pain relief. Based on their positive reviews, I’m expecting these to be high quality creams that really accomplish what they’re made for.

About Medterra

Medterra was started by a group of individuals who are passionate about CBD, with the goal of making quality CBD products available to all those who need it at an affordable price. Their industrial hemp is grown at American hemp farms in Kentucky, and farmed in accordance with the strict guidelines set by the Department of Agriculture and the Kentucky Hemp Pilot Program. Medterra also complies with the U.S. Hemp Authority Certification program and grows their hemp plants without the use of herbicides and pesticides.

All of their extracts go through independent, third-party lab testing and their Certificates of Analysis and test results are easily available for review on their website. Each product sold by Medterra will have a corresponding COA that will contain information on each batch of the product, ingredient profiles, and quality control methods. However, it’s worth noting that their products are not tested for herbicides because, under the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s organic farming practice, they already avoid using any chemicals during the growing and extraction process.

All of their CBD topicals are made in the USA from non-GMO, organically grown hemp. These use 99% pure cannabidiol (CBD) isolate and, referencing their lab test results, contain no other cannabinoids, no pesticides, and no residual solvents. All of their CBD topicals are THC free.

Medterra CBD + Manuka Cream

This cream is specially crafted for skin care purposes. It comes in either a 1fl oz. jar with 125mg of CBD or a 2fl oz. jar with 250mg of CBD. It’s formulated with organic ingredients and more than 20 botanical parts to help soothe and nourish skin. Ingredients include aloe vera leaf juice, palm fruit oil, carrot, sunflower seed oil, organic beeswax, coconut oil, and many other easily recognizable ingredients. 

The main star of this cream though is the manuka honey. Manuka honey originates in New Zealand and is produced by bees that pollinate the native manuka bush. This honey contains several specialty compounds that set it apart from traditional honey, and it has been used throughout history for a wide variety of skincare uses.

With the cold weather that we receive here in Toronto, my hands and face get especially dry when the temperature drops. Although it’s beginning to warm up a little, the last couple of weeks have still been cold and my hands and face were suffering. 

Opening up the jar of CBD + Manuka Cream, it has a cream color and a light, neutral smell with subtle hints of honey. It actually smells a little like brown sugar too. I like that it isn’t overwhelmingly scented but still smells pleasant. The consistency looks thick, but once you start rubbing your fingers into the jar it melts away and thins into a lotion-like consistency.

I started by applying two fingers worth onto my hands and the same for my face. At first it has a bit of an oily consistency and feel, but after working it into my skin for a minute most of the oily feel goes away. After just the first application I could see and feel that my skin was softer and more supple. Now, a few weeks into using it every day, I’ve seen a significant improvement in my skin and the dryness has been significantly reduced. This might be my favorite CBD skin care cream that I’ve tried so far.

Medterra CBD Relief + Recovery Cream

Medterra CBD Relief + Recovery Cream is meant to be used after working out or other physical activity to relieve muscle and joint pain, as well as promote recovery. It comes in three CBD strengths: 250mg, 500mg, and 750mg. I have the 500mg cream on hand for this review. This cream combines CBD and organic ingredients like menthol, arnica, sunflower seed oil, coconut alcohol, mineral salt, grape seed extract, aloe vera leaf juice, and more. Like their CBD + Manuka Cream, this cream is similarly made with easily recognizable ingredients. 

One of the main ingredients, Arnica, is a flower that grows in the mountains of Europe and Siberia and its extract can be used to address muscle soreness and aches, bruising, joint pain, swelling and inflammation. The menthol in this cream should also provide a cooling effect that helps to dull aches and pains. And of course, you get all of the natural relieving qualities of CBD as well.

I’m a moderately active guy. I work out regularly and try to go out running a few times a week whenever the weather permits. This cream comes in a pump bottle where you just push down on the nozzle to pump out the cream. A few pumps is all it takes to get all the cream you need for a sore area like your bicep, neck, or calf. This cream is white with a lotion-like consistency and it smells strongly of menthol. That’s pretty much all it smells like, too. There’s no CBD scent or other scent to it.

This cream is super easy to work into the skin. Once it’s worked in well, there’s virtually no residue left at the application site. Skin feels basically the same to the touch as it did before the application.

After applying this to an area, I immediately feel the cooling effects go to work. It starts off as a light cooling sensation, but after 5 minutes it rapidly gets colder and colder and I can feel the CBD, arnica, and other ingredients starting to work on my muscle soreness.  Over the next 5 minutes I felt an increasing reduction in muscle pain and fatigue and the cooling of the menthol feels really soothing. The pain relief lasts long enough that my muscles don’t start feeling sore again for hours.

Medterra CBD Pain Relief Cream

Medterra CBD Pain Relief Cream is similar to their Relief + Recovery Cream with its use of arnica and menthol. But rather than focusing on muscle pain and recovery, this cream targets the relief of serious pain like sore backs, stiff necks, joint pain, and arthritis. It’s even been registered as an over-the-counter product. This Pain Relief Cream comes in 1.7fl oz. bottles with either 500mg or 1000mg of CBD per bottle. Some of the ingredients include arnica, menthol, aloe vera leaf juice, shea butter, peppermint oil, jojoba oil, and coconut oil.

Unfortunately, I have recurring back pain from a car accident a few years back. About a year and a half ago, I decided to try CBD to relieve the pain and I was pleasantly surprised to see that CBD does in fact work for me and significantly reduced the pain and discomfort. Since then, I’ve been trying tons of different brands of CBD topicals, gummies, and ejuices, looking for the one that works best for me.

This cream also comes in a pump bottle where you just push down on the nozzle to pump out the cream. A pump or two is all it takes to get the amount of cream you need for a sore neck. I use 2-3 pumps for my lower back. The look, smell, and feel of this cream is similar to Medterra’s Relief + Recovery Cream. It’s white with a lotion-like consistency and smells strongly like menthol. It’s very easy to work into my back and once it’s worked in properly, there’s no residue left that you can see or feel. Skin feels essentially the same as it did before I applied the cream.

Upon applying the cream I immediately feel a light cooling taking place. This cooling slowly builds up until it progresses to a chilly, strong cooling sensation after around 5 minutes. Over the next 5 minutes I can feel the CBD and other ingredients start to work. From here, my back pain gradually decreases until it’s virtually gone. I say “virtually gone” because when my back really starts hurting, nothing takes the pain away completely. However, a good CBD cream works just as good for me as a pain reliever. This is definitely among the better CBD pain creams that I’ve used.

Verdict

After thoroughly testing Medterra’s CBD creams, I can confidently say that these are some of the finest CBD creams on the market, period. They’re THC-free and clearly very high quality. I love that they’re transparent about every aspect of their CBD products: from how their CBD is grown to what ingredients each product contains. I also love that their lab test results are so easily and readily available on their website. 

Perhaps most importantly though, their creams really work. Their CBD + Manuka Cream is great for skin care purposes, and their CBD Relief + Recovery Cream and CBD Pain Relief Creams work wonders for muscle aches and sore backs alike. The only downside to their products is that they aren’t exactly cheap, but I think that it’s better to spend more money on something that works rather than save a few dollars and end up buying something that does nothing for you.
