The bottom line

All around, I’m happy with how the NEXA PIX performs. It does what a good disposable vape should do: provide good flavor, be satisfying to vape, and deliver a hassle-free experience.

While I didn’t find much of a difference in the freshness of the e-juice from the “Juicy Lock” e-juice tank which comes separated from the battery, this might be because I received the devices so soon after they were produced. If you’re purchasing one of these in the future after they’ve sat for a while in a warehouse, this setup could certainly go a long way towards keeping the e-juice fresh until it gets into your hands.

The NEXA PIX is also smaller and more portable than the NEXA ULTRA, while still delivering a good 35,000 puffs, and a similar experience. If you like the NEXA ULTRA but are looking for something maybe a bit smaller and don’t mind sacrificing some puffs, the NEXA PIX is a good choice.

Product Overview

The PIX is the latest disposable vape from a brand that has quickly become quite popular—NEXA. This device is basically a smaller, lower-puff version of the NEXA ULTRA 50000, and it shares a lot of similarities in design and specs.

The NEXA PIX features two vaping modes, and according to NEXA, it will deliver up to 35,000 puffs in Normal mode or up to 20,000 puffs in Turbo mode, which is impressive considering how compact it is.

Like the NEXA ULTRA, the NEXA PIX comes with a “Juicy Lock” tank that comes separated from the battery. Once you take it out of the box, you press and snap in the tank, which keeps the e-juice fresh and leak-free until it reaches your hands.

The NEXA PIX has an 800mAh battery that recharges with Type-C charging, an adjustable airflow slider, and a gorgeous HD display. There are 15 flavors available at launch.

I took two weeks to learn the ins and outs of these disposables, and in this review, I’ll cover everything you need to know about the NEXA PIX.

Getting Started

NEXA PIX Disposables - 1

Unlike other disposable vapes, the NEXA PIX is not exactly ready to go out of the box. Once you take it out of the packaging, there are just a few steps to follow before it’s ready to use.

Number one is removing the rubber stopper from the mouthpiece and removing the white ribbon that sits around the tank. Next is snapping in the tank, which is already semi-attached to the device. This is a slight change from the NEXA ULTRA, which came with the tank packaged completely separate.

But why have to do this at all? Why doesn’t the NEXA PIX just ship with the tank attached and ready to use? As far as I understand, there are a few good reasons to keep the e-juice tank separate from the battery until it’s ready to be used.

One is freshness. The e-juice tank is sealed by a rubber stopper that opens only when snapped into the device. This keeps the e-juice as fresh as possible to maximize flavor.

Another reason to keep the tank separate is to prevent leaks. I’ve opened more than a few disposable vapes to find them leaking all inside the packaging, so this prevents that from happening.

Snapping the e-juice tank into place is as simple as firmly pressing it into the device. You’ll know that it’s in properly when you hear a click. Afterwards, check the fitment to see if it’s flush with the device. If it is, the NEXA PIX is good to go.

The PIX comes with 5ml of e-juice inside the device and 11ml of e-juice inside the tank, so it’s already pre-wicked and ready to vape as soon as you snap in the tank, no waiting period needed.

Design & Build Quality

NEXA PIX Disposables - 3

Once the two pieces are combined, the NEXA PIX feels like a solid, one-piece vape, and looks just like any other disposable. One thing it has going for it, though, is its size.

For a 35,000 puff device, it’s extremely small, and it’s not too heavy either. At 88.8mm tall, 52.5mm wide, and 25.5mm thick, it’s significantly smaller than its older sibling, the NEXA ULTRA, and it only weighs around 80 grams.

Compared to the NEXA ULTRA, the NEXA PIX looks more finished and modern. The pearlescent finish on the colored front and back panels is subtle yet nice, and I like the pixel-like icons too.

The clear e-juice tank might be my favorite feature. It allows you to see exactly how much e-juice you have remaining, without having to rely on a maybe-not-so-accurate e-juice level display. There are four notches printed on the tank, too, to help keep track of where you’re at.

The mouthpiece on the PIX is coated in rubber and slightly flexible, so it feels nice on the lips. It also adds enough grip so I can hold it in my mouth hands-free for a few puffs while I type (I may or may not be doing this right now).

The display is similar to the NEXA ULTRA and lights up with a circuit board theme when you press the button or take a puff. The display is very high resolution, clear, and bright. It’s a definite improvement over the display on the NEXA ULTRA, and it looks very high quality.

Overall, I’m impressed with the fit and finish of the NEXA PIX, as well as with how small it is for a 35,000 puff disposable.

Features

NEXA PIX Disposables - 13

The NEXA PIX shares many features with the NEXA ULTRA, including a transparent tank. But aside from the obvious benefits, the NEXA PIX is hiding a few more advantages up its sleeve (or should I say, up its tank?).

But in order for this to make sense, you first have to understand how most other disposable vapes work. See, most disposable vapes don’t have an e-juice tank like the NEXA PIX. Instead, they usually have a large piece of cotton (the wick) that surrounds the coil.

This cotton holds all of the e-juice, and as you vape, the cotton dries up. Once most of the e-juice is finished, it’s no longer able to concentrate near the coil, and you’ll get a dry or burnt-tasting hit. However, there’s still e-juice left in the cotton, it’s just not where it needs to be, which is at the coil.

With the NEXA PIX, the e-juice tank feeds directly to the coil, allowing you to use all the e-juice available before the device needs to be discarded. It’s for this reason that the NEXA PIX is rated for 35,000 puffs from its 16ml of ejuice, rather than a much lower number.

This 35,000 puff rating is only achievable if you use the NEXA PIX exclusively in Normal mode. If using Turbo mode, this puff rating is cut down to 20,000 puffs.

To change between modes, press the button on the front of the NEXA PIX. The screen will illuminate and display the chosen mode. It’s quick and straightforward to change between modes, so even beginner vapers won’t have a problem using this device.

Airflow

NEXA PIX Disposables - 5

On the bottom of the NEXA PIX is an adjustable airflow slider. The knob is small and round, with some circles engraved into it for grip. This is just like the airflow slider on the NEXA ULTRA and NEXA ULTRA InvisaCloud Edition, so anyone familiar with NEXA’s devices will be greeted by a familiar sight.

Even with the airflow open, the draw is a semi-tight mouth-to-lung draw. Closing the airflow down makes the draw tighter, to the point of a very tight mouth-to-lung draw when the slider is nearly closed.

Leaving it wide open was how I preferred the airflow, as it allowed me to get the best flavor from this device. Closing it down too much mutes the flavor and makes the draw way tighter than I like it, but feel free to play around with the slider if you want a tighter draw.

Flavors

NEXA PIX Disposables - 4

There are fifteen flavors available for the NEXA PIX at launch:

  • Citrus Rush
  • Velvet Latte
  • Juicy Grape
  • Sun Slush
  • Frozen Banana
  • Watermelon Ice
  • Strawberry Ice
  • Fcuking FAB
  • Lemon Blast
  • Blue Razz Ice
  • Miami Mint
  • Sour Chill Apple
  • Peach Dive
  • Blueberry Watermelon
  • White Gummy

Clearly, it’s a lot of fruit and drink flavors, but those have always been what NEXA has gone for. I’m going to describe how three of these flavors taste to me and what I think of them. However, keep in mind that just because I like a flavor does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I don’t like a flavor, it doesn’t mean you won’t like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Watermelon Ice

The watermelon flavor here is strong without being too sweet. It leaves quite a bit of an aftertaste, though, lingering around for a few seconds after I exhale. The ice is mild, about a three out of five, so it’s there but overpoweringly icy. Many watermelon flavors are candied to the max, and this one is the opposite, which is a nice change.

Fcuking Fab

Fcuking fab is a sweet and candied assortment of tropical flavors, with a bit of a citrus taste at the forefront. It’s not sour, though, and it’s actually the opposite, with a lot of sweetness and candy taste. It reminds me a lot of Geekbar’s Sour Fcuking Fab, just without the sourness.

Citrus Rush

I like citrus flavors, so I really enjoyed Citrus Rush. I get a strong lime flavor with some subtle lemon on the inhale, followed by a nice and mild orange flavor that closes it all out. It’s a bit sharp and tangy, but it’s what I would expect from a purely citrus flavor. Citus flavors aren’t all that common, so if you’re looking for something new, maybe give this flavor a try!

How long do they last?

NEXA PIX Disposables - 2

The clear e-juice tank on the NEXA PIX makes it easy and convenient to keep track of where the e-juice is at and just how much use I have left out of each one. The first full use of a charge uses the first two notches on the e-juice tank, which is about a third of the e-juice.

A charge lasted me for about three days. Considering this, and that each charge uses about a third of the tank, the NEXA PIX will last for just over a week if you vape frequently, as I do.

The 800mAh battery charges with Type-C charging and takes just over an hour for a full charge (1hr 10 mins). That’s not super fast by modern standards, but not terrible either. These do have pass-through charging, at least, so they can be vaped while charging if you absolutely need a puff.

How do they vape?

NEXA PIX Disposables - 12

The NEXA PIX vapes exceptionally well, and it’s a very smooth draw considering the 50mg/ml nicotine strength. It still feels satisfying, but it’s not harsh on the throat or too powerful of a draw. Users who are used to 50mg/ml will still get that satisfaction that they’re looking for, and those used to lower strengths, like 30-35mg/ml, might even be okay with the draw and end up vaping less due to the higher nicotine content.

As far as the “Juicy Lock” tank is concerned, it definitely has its benefits. For one, none of the devices leaked in the box. Beyond this, though, the e-juice and flavors taste good, but I’m not tasting a noticeable difference in freshness. I could see this Juice Lock being a benefit if the devices sit for a while before being sold, but as I got these samples pretty soon after production, I don’t think there was enough time elapsed to make a difference to the flavors.

All of the flavors that I tried taste pretty “wet”, and leave a nice aftertaste. It’s a definite “disposable experience”, and I know a ton of friends who gravitate towards certain disposables because of the “wet” kind of vape that they provide.

Verdict
