Our Verdict

The Joyetech eGo Air is a device that blew my expectations out of the water. I didn’t expect that such a simple device would have as much to offer as it does, and I was wrong. Although simple, the performance is up there with some of the best pod devices that I’ve tried and that goes for the draw, the flavor, and the overall experience.

The filter seemed weird before I actually used it, but once I tried it I understood why Joyetech included it. Combined with the warm and tight MTL draw, the filter enhances the vaping experience to the point that you wouldn’t know the difference between drawing on a cigarette or drawing on the eGo Air. Of course, the vapor from the eGo Air tastes better, but the similarity of the draws are uncanny.

The eGo Air is just a great device all around. It’s simple to use, well-built, flavorful, and provides a great vaping experience (especially for those looking to quit smoking). If you’re looking for a device to help you quit smoking, I would highly recommend picking up an eGo Air and seeing for yourself how great it is.

Joyetech is a company that has been in the vaping industry from the beginning. They were founded in 2008 and have since become one of the larger vapor device manufacturers globally. While Joyetech have been relatively quiet with their releases recently, they’ve just released a host of new products, one of which is the Joyetech eGo Air pod device.

The eGo Air is a slim and tall pod vape with the shape of a vape pen. The eGo Air has a 650mAh battery that charges with Type-C charging. It comes with a single 1.0Ω pod and provides a tight MTL draw that ex-smokers, or those trying to quit, will find similar.

A unique selling point for the eGo Air is that it comes with a filter that can be inserted into the 510 drip tip and this further enhances the feeling of drawing on a smoke.

Design & Build Quality

  • Joyetech eGo Air 1

The Joyetech eGo Air has a different design from most other pod vapes being released these days. Instead of a boxy or rectangle shape, the eGo Air has a round and tall design that is most like a vape pen. But unlike the massive vape pens that I’m used to, the eGo Air is slim and slender and more similar in size to an actual pen. It’s only 16m in diameter and 122.5mm tall and it’s also very light. Like a pen, I enjoyed twirling the eGo Air around in my fingers for added stress relief. The fact that I can twirl just makes it that much better for me.

In addition to how nice it feels to twirl this thing, it’s also just nice to hold. The pen shape feels natural to bring to my mouth and vape and it’s comfortable to hold.

The overall build quality is really great. Even though it’s so thin and light, it doesn’t feel inexpensive or fragile. The finish of the eGo Air is very nice and the overall look and design are befitting of a high-end, expensive device. The paint is a nice satin finish with very little branding. There’s a Joyetech logo as well as ‘EGO AIR’ printed on the device, but they’re printed in a small font and so they don’t take away from the overall clean look.

There are four colors available for the eGo Air: Stellar Black, Twilight Blue, Blazing Red, and Metallic Grey. The Blazing Red color that I’m using for this review is a dark red with some luster to it and it looks and feels awesome. The paint has held up to going in and out of my pockets, as well as to some minor drops (which may or may not have occurred due to me twirling it around).

On one side of the eGo Air you’ll find an LED and the Type-C Charging port. I like that the charging port is located on the side and not on the bottom because this allows you to stand it up while it charges. The LED is white and does not change color. It does not light up when you remove or insert the pod, only when you draw.

The eGo Air is a draw activated device, meaning you draw on the mouthpiece to vape. There are no buttons.

  • Joyetech eGo Air Pod

You get one pod with the eGo Air and it houses a coil with a 1.0Ω resistance. The coil is non-removable so when the pod starts to lose flavor or taste funny you’ll have to replace the entire pod for a new one. The pod attached magnetically to the battery and, due to the sloped cutout where the pod attaches, will only go in one way. There’s some wiggle with the pod inserted, but only if you try to move it around. In day-to-day usage it does not move or wiggle at all.

This pod will hold up to 2ml of ejuice but, from the size of the pod, you would think that it would hold more. It’s tall and round like the device and it’s easily refilled through the fill port on the front of the pod. The pod can be filled while the pod is still inserted into the battery. Simply remove the rubber bung, insert your bottle nozzle, and fill. The fill port hole is large enough to even accommodate 100ml bottles, although this device is best used with nic salts so you will likely be using 60ml bottles and under.

Joyetech eGo Air with Filter

The eGo Air has a really unique selling point that I haven’t seen on any other pod device — a filter. This filter can be inserted into the 510 drip tip and this gives the eGo Air a feeling that is as close to drawing on a cigarette that I’ve found. The filters can also be purchased separately so you can continue to use them long after the initial filter becomes gross.

I haven’t seen another pod device do this so it’s really a unique selling point for the eGo Air. While it looks a little strange, it will add  a familiar feeling for smokers looking to quit and I think that this is an awesome little feature.

Battery and Charging

Joyetech eGo Air 4

The eGo Air has a 650mAh battery and it charges with Type-C charging. You can expect to vape one and a half pods of ejuice per charge, which is less than the 2 pods that I would expect to get from a device with a 650mAh battery. However, this is due to the eGo Air having a constant draw output that does not get weaker as the battery dies. I personally will take the slightly reduced battery life for the more consistent draw.

The white LED on the side of the eGo Air indicates your battery life by the way that it flashes:

  • Light flashes slowly: 60-100%
  • Light flashes moderately: 20-59%
  • Light flashes quickly: 1-19%

It’s hard to tell the difference between the lights until you’ve gone through a few cycles, so I would have preferred if the lights were different colors to indicate different levels of battery charge. Still, I got the hang of it after a few discharge cycles and you will too.

Performance

Joyetech eGo Air 5

The eGo Air delivers a very enjoyable vaping experience and it’s all due to a combination of factors that come together to make a great vape. One factor is the constant output voltage. This means that the draw remains consistent even as the battery dies. Whether it’s full battery or close to dead, it still delivers the same steady draw.

The tight MTL draw is also very enjoyable and those looking to quit smoking will particularly enjoy it. Drawing on the eGo Air feels just like drawing on a cigarette. Combine this draw with the filter and, aside from it tasting a lot better, you wouldn’t know the difference if you closed your eyes. That by itself is a big pro for this device.

Also of note is the flavor. The 1.0Ω mesh coil provides accurate and enjoyable flavor that is just as good as other top pod vapes out there. You aren’t sacrificing flavor just to enjoy the other strong points of this device and that’s obviously a big pro.

I used 20mg strength nic salt ejuices and even with this relatively low strength, the eGo Air still delivered a pleasant throat hit. I imagine that you could go up to even 50mg with this device and it wouldn’t be too much, provided of course that you’re a heavy smoker who can handle high-strength nicotine ejuices.

The draw activated firing on the eGo Air works flawlessly and the sensitivity is tuned just right. You can draw lightly and it will still activate and it doesn’t activate by itself. Great job by Joyetech on the draw sensitivity.

Nobody likes a leaking vape (myself included) and so far it’s been so good. The design of the pod doesn’t really leave anywhere for ejuice to leak from as it’s mostly one piece on the bottom of the pod. I did not have ejuice leak out of the pod at all during my testing and I used 50/50 ejuices in addition to my usual 70VG. It did not leak with either ejuice ratio.
