Lookah Zero - 6

CONS

The bottom line

The Lookah Zero isn’t a revolutionary device, but it has the features needed to get the most out of your 510 cart. The three voltage settings offer flexibility to suit individual preferences, and the preheat mode is useful for starting thicker cartridges.

The device is well-designed and feels like it’s made to last. The cartridge is completely hidden, which makes it a good device if you don’t want others to know that you’re vaping a cartridge. Plus, since the cartridge is completely enclosed, the Zero also protects your cart in case you drop it.

There are a few aspects of the device that I found less than ideal, namely the button activation. The placement of the button makes this awkward, so if button-activation is a must for you, I would suggest looking at another device like the Lookah Snail 2.0.

Additionally, while the Zero features a large 650mAh battery that lasts a long time and allows for use while charging, the battery indicator leaves something to be desired. Brands, if you’re listening, we want a more accurate way to track our battery levels!

Considering all of this, the Lookah Zero is a good, affordable 510 battery. Priced at around $25 and available in a variety of colors, it’s an excellent budget buy.

Product Overview

With over a decade of experience, Lookah offers a diverse range of cannabis devices and accessories, including vaporizers, dab rigs, bongs, and 510 thread batteries. What sets Lookah apart is its artistic and fun designs, although the Zero, which I’ll be reviewing today, is a more subdued option in terms of aesthetics.

At first glance, the Lookah Zero may seem like just another pod vape due to its shape and size. However, it is designed to conceal your 510 cartridge inside, providing a discreet vaping experience. It’s also super easy to use.

Getting started with the Lookah Zero involves just three steps: First, remove the top portion of the device, which is held in place magnetically. Next, screw in your cartridge. Finally, replace the cap. That’s it!

The Lookah Zero features three voltage settings and a 10-second preheat mode. It is equipped with a 650mAh battery that charges via Type C.

In this review, I go over the design, build quality, features, performance, and more. Read on to learn if this concealed 510 battery meets your needs.

Design & Build Quality

  • Lookah Zero - 1

The Lookah Zero has a more conventional design compared to other devices in the Lookah lineup. Unlike the Snail 2.0, which has a snail-like appearance, the Zero is named for its rectangular “O” shape.

This device is quite portable and easy to carry in your pocket. It measures 97.6mm in height, 39mm in width, and 19.4mm in depth. Even with a cartridge installed, it remains very lightweight at just 60g.

I can’t easily conceal this device in my hand, but it offers privacy since the cartridge is completely hidden inside. The Zero could easily be mistaken for a pod vape, and this seems intentional, as the mouthpiece is larger and resembles a pod cartridge.

Because the cartridge is concealed within the device, it not only offers privacy, but also protection against breakage if you accidentally drop the device.

The Lookah Zero consists of two sections, with the top portion magnetically attaching to the bottom. The device separates at different points on either side: one side, where the battery is located, separates near the top, while the cartridge side separates near the bottom. Removing this top portion allows access to the 510 connector.

  • Lookah Zero - 9

For this review, I received a purple version of the Lookah Zero. The paint has a beautiful shimmer that looks stunning in the right lighting and has held up exceptionally well over three weeks of use, showing no scratches or markings.

Both the front and back of the device look almost identical, featuring the Lookah logo and the Zero logo in black beneath it. Additionally, both sides have textured grips to make removing the cap easier.

Located on the bottom of the device is a Type-C charging port, a power button, and two airflow holes. There’s also an LED indicator, which is integrated into the power button. This LED shows your battery charge state and will alert you when it’s time to recharge the device. More on this later.

The sides of the Lookah Zero are rounded, making it comfortable to hold, and there are no logos or markings.

The mouthpiece is slightly larger than average, which initially concerned me. I worried that this, combined with the fact that it doesn’t connect to the cartridge directly, might make it difficult to draw adequate vapor. However, this turned out to be a non-issue.

If you primarily use draw activation, you won’t have any problems with the Lookah Zero. However, the placement of the power button on the bottom of the device can be a bit awkward for those who prefer button activation. Personally, I had to use my pinky to take a draw, which was uncomfortable. As a result, I opted for draw activation, which works quite well, especially when used alongside the preheat option.

Overall, the Lookah Zero is a well-made device. But what features does it offer, and how does it perform in real-world testing? Let’s get into that.

Getting Started

Lookah Zero - 11

The Lookah Zero, like most 510 batteries, is designed to be easy to use. Setting it up involves just a few simple steps.

First, remove the device’s top portion from the battery. Strong magnets hold these two parts together, but a gentle tug can easily separate them.

Once the cap is off, you’ll see the battery section on one side and the 510 connection on the other. Simply screw your 510 cartridge onto the connector. The Lookah Zero accommodates cartridges ranging from 0.5ml to 1.0ml and should fit all standard diameter cartridges.

After securing the cartridge, put the top portion back onto the battery, and you’re ready to start vaping.

To turn on the device, quickly press the power button five times. To access the voltage settings, press the button twice quickly to select your desired level. For preheat mode, press the button three times rapidly. The preheat mode completes in 10 seconds.

Once the preheat mode is complete, you can draw to activate the device or use the button to take a draw. Using the preheat mode is optional, but it helps to get thicker carts started.

Features & Functions

The Lookah Zero offers a good set of features, especially for its budget-friendly price.

To change the voltage, quickly press the power button twice. The voltage output is indicated by an LED light on both the device’s front and back. There are three voltage settings available:

  • Green: 3.4V
  • Blue: 3.7V
  • White: 4.0V

Preheat mode can be activated by pressing the button three times. When the preheat is activated, the LED illuminates purple and turns off after 10 seconds when the preheat session has completed.

The Lookah Zero offers both draw and button activation. However, as I mentioned previously, I found the button activation a bit awkward, so I opted to use draw activation most of the time.

Thanks to the dual LEDs on both the front and the back of the device, you can easily see the light while taking a draw, so you never have to question which voltage setting you’re vaping at.

The Zero comes with a couple of built-in safety features. When triggered, the LED will light up to let you know. These are:

  • Open circuit protection: The LED will flash yellow five times.
  • Short circuit: protection: The LED will flash yellow eight times.

To remedy these issues, you can check your cartridge connection or replace the cartridge entirely.

Battery & Charging

The Lookah Zero features a 650mAh battery, which is considered mid-sized but has impressive longevity. It is advertised to last between one and two days, depending on usage. However, I’m able to get nearly a week of use out of a charge, and that’s with some pretty heavy usage.

I’m not particularly fond of the battery LED indicator and its color coding due to the wide range for the “red” level. The LED lights up in different colors, which are:

  • Red: 0-30%
  • Yellow: 31-60%
  • Green: 61-100%

When the LED lights up red, it’s hard to know if the battery will run out of charge in an hour or a day, especially if you don’t catch it right away. A more narrow range for the “red” indicator level would have been better, something like under 10-15%. The device will blink red eight times when the battery is depleted and needs to be recharged.

To recharge your device, use the Type-C charging port located on the bottom. It takes about one hour to fully charge the device from being completely dead. When you connect the charger, the LED blinks red three times, then continues flashing red until it’s fully charged. Once charging is complete, the LED will change to a solid green color.

Fortunately, if the Lookah Zero dies and it’s your only 510 battery, you can still use it while charging, thanks to its pass-through capability. This feature is not often found in many 510 batteries, so it’s nice to have it here.

How does it vape?

Lookah Zero - 7

I tested the Lookah Zero’s ability to effectively heat my concentrates, and I was pleased to find that even my thicker materials produced excellent quality vapor, even at the lowest voltage setting. The Zero doesn’t struggle to get my carts going and seems to have enough power to make for a good experience with all sorts of cartridges.

Designing a concealed 510 battery can be hit or miss, but Lookah definitely succeeded with the design of the mouthpiece. Although large, one side connects to the cartridge, while the other features a pinhole-sized airflow. This design works well and produces dense vapor, which is surprising since the cartridge does not connect directly to the mouthpiece.

The preheat function is incredibly easy to use; simply press the button three times quickly to activate the 10-second preheat mode. I highly recommend using this feature for those who use carts with thicker material as it gives a little boost to get the cart started.

The three voltage settings each deliver a different vaping experience. The lowest voltage, indicated by the green light, provides a light draw with flavorful vapor. The mid-range blue setting balances both excellent flavor and clouds. The highest setting, white, produces significantly larger clouds but at the expense of some flavor.

I found myself switching between the green and blue settings depending on my plans for the day, with green being better for light effects when I needed to get things done, and blue better for deeper effects when I wanted to relax.

Verdict

Considering all of this, the Lookah Zerois a good, affordable 510 battery. Priced at around $20 and available in a variety of colors, it’s an excellent budget buy.
