The bottom line

The Lost Vape Orion Bar 50K is a somewhat unique addition to the disposable e-cigarette landscape, thanks to its ability to adjust nicotine strength and boost the ice hit when needed. Both of these features work very well and make a noticeable difference to both flavor and vape experience.

The range of flavors all sound appealing, and even though there is nothing there that is particularly adventurous or unexpected among them, they are likely to please existing users of disposable vapes. The Peach Mango Watermelon, in particular, is well worth trying if you like complex fruity flavors.

The 360-degree screen is more for show than utility, but it does look good, particularly in a dark or low-light setting. And while most of the display is for decoration, it’s worth noting that it does include useful information like battery and e-liquid level, mode, etc., too. If this were a case of a flashy screen on a lacklustre vape, I would denounce it as a gimmick, but with everything else being up to a high standard, from flavor to adaptability, I have no problem with a bit of design flair. And I’m sure many vapers will love it.

Users might have expected a larger battery in such a chunky device, and that would have been welcome, but I’m guessing most of the extra girth is due to fitting the 28ml e-liquid tank. Most big puff disposables offer similar-sized power cells, so it’s not as if the Orion Bar 50K is an outlier in that regard.

Product Overview

The Lost Vape Orion Bar 50K is the latest addition to the Orion Bar family, which includes several other large-capacity disposables. This one, however, is certainly one of the largest as it features a huge 28ml tank of 50mg/ml e-liquid that promises to provide up to 50,000 puffs from each device. With the device priced at around $20, cost-per-puff works out to a fraction of a cent.

Unique features include what is billed as the world’s first 360-degree display on a vape, providing decorative flair, as well as information on battery life, nicotine settings, and mode. In addition, there is the ability to adjust the nicotine strength between low and high with the flick of a switch, and turn on Ice Boost for enhanced cooling intensity.

The Orion Bar 50K is available in fifteen flavors, ranging from familiar favorites like Blue Razz Ice, Strawnana, and Watermelon Ice, to more intriguing options like Blue Pina Kiwi, Ruby Jelly, Mango Boom, and Orange Cake. Every one of these flavors can be enjoyed in standard mode or with Ice Boost.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a few of these chunky 50K disposables for a couple of weeks of testing, and test them I did. Here’s what I thought.

These disposables were sent to me by Lost Vape for the purpose of this review.

  • Ice Mode
  • Draw activated

Design & Build Quality

  • Lost Vape Orion Bar 50K - 9

The latest Orion Bar from Lost Vape is a chunky device, even when sitting among other disposables that offer multiple thousands of puffs. At just under 100mm tall to the tip of the mouthpiece, 54mm across, and 24mm deep, it is just about palm-sized for my admittedly slightly feminine hands.

There isn’t a hard angle to be found on the device, with every edge, from top to bottom, smoothly rounded. This helps to make the Orion Bar comfortable to hold despite its slightly bulky size and 100g weight.

The biggest design feature is the display, literally and figuratively. Said to be the world’s first 360-degree display on a vape, this screen wraps around the entire body of the vape and almost from top to bottom.

Although it is designed to look like one single display, it actually has a few different sections. On two large flat faces, it displays a space/galaxy-themed pattern of stars, planets, and space dust. One of the narrower edges displays a spinning 8-pointed star and a snowflake symbol when Ice mode is active. The final narrow edge is where you can see the battery level readout, current nicotine level, and another ice boost indicator.

The whole screen activates every time you take a puff or change any of the settings, and as there is no way to deactivate the display when the vape is in use, it’s not a feature you can easily miss.

But if you’re buying a vape with a 360-degree display, being discreet probably isn’t high on your list of device requirements. It isn’t a feature that would, in and of itself, make me buy the Orion Bar 50K, but it looks very cool and fits with the naming theme.

All of the ports and controls are located on the base of the vape. These include a switch to turn it on and off, and change between low and high nicotine output, as well as a button that adds or removes the ice boost.

Alongside these controls, you’ll find the USB Type-C charging port. The positioning of the controls works well, with a slightly recessed panel keeping them away from being accidentally changed. This base section is colored to suit the flavor (green base for apple, pink base for peach, etc.) and provides a nice contrast to the black of the other sections.

The mouthpiece, positioned off-center on top of the vape, is relatively small but very nicely shaped. It’s comfortable to use, and the narrow chimney is well-suited for MTL vaping.

Features

  • Lost Vape Orion Bar 50K - 13

Despite previously having a reputation for being the simplest of all vapes to use, in recent years, disposables have increasingly added features more common on pod and mod vapes.

These features range from simple adjustable airflow to multiple power modes, and even the ability to mix flavors on the fly in a single device. The Orion Bar can now be added to this growing list of advanced disposables, thanks to the way it allows users to choose from several distinct usage modes.

As mentioned earlier, the Orion Bar features a switch to adjust the nicotine level and a button to activate or deactivate Ice Boost mode. By combining these controls in different ways, the vaping experience changes. For example, you can use the vape in low nicotine and no ice mode or, if you fancy a more intense puff, switch to high nicotine with ice. In total, the controls allow for four different vape experiences:

  • Low Nic/No Ice
  • Low Nic/Ice Boost
  • High Nic/No Ice
  • High Nic/Ice Boost

How Lost Vape has achieved this isn’t entirely clear, but the difference between the various modes is noticeable. I can only assume that for Ice Boost, the device contains a secondary e-liquid tank with the “Ice” flavor, which is only accessible when Ice Boost is enabled.

As for the nicotine strength adjustment, I have no idea, and there is no way (for me) to test how much nicotine is in each puff. It could just be that airflow and power are reduced in low-nic mode, so less vapor (and therefore, less nicotine) is produced when you puff on it.

Flavors

Lost Vape Orion Bar 50K - 2

The new Orion Bar 50K is available in 15 different flavors, all of which can be enjoyed with or without Ice Boost. They are:

  • Mango Boom
  • Kiwi Orange
  • Orange Cake
  • Fruity Nectar
  • Blue Razz Ice
  • Strawnana
  • Blue Pina Kiwi
  • Peach Mango Watermelon
  • Cool Mint
  • Frozen Raspberry Lemonade
  • Sour Apple Ice
  • Juicy Peach
  • Berry Blossom
  • Ruby Jelly
  • Watermelon Ice

I was lucky enough to be sent several flavors to test and jotted down what I thought of each as I tried them out. However, remember that just because I like a flavor, this does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I dislike a flavor, this does not mean that you will not like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Sour Apple Ice

Despite the name, Sour Apple Ice has a fairly sweet taste. This was somewhat negated in Ice mode, but not by much. I love sour apple as a vape flavor when it has a certain “sharpness” to it, which the Orion Bar lacks. However, that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy this vape, because the apple flavor is nice; it just isn’t very sour.

The Ice mode on the Sour Apple makes the least difference to the overall flavor of any of the options I tested. As mentioned, it does take away some of the sweetness and adds some intensity to each draw, but I can’t imagine that many users choosing a “Sour Apple Ice” vape will bother to disable the Ice.

Juicy Peach

I’m not generally a fan of peach-flavored vape liquids, but the Orion Bar Juicy Peach is really good. In the absence of other complimentary flavor notes, peach vapes can be overly sweet, but that isn’t the case here. The flavor is fruity rather than purely sweet, and it tastes more like eating a freshly plucked peach than a peach candy.

The flavor is quite icy, even without activating Ice mode on the Orion Bar, but when you do, the cooling effect works well. It further reduces the overall sweetness of the flavor and adds a welcome throat hit intensity. If I had the chance to test all the available flavors, I doubt Juicy Peach would be my No.1 pick, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Watermelon Ice

Watermelon Ice is a flavor found in most disposable vape ranges, and for good reason. It is a very “easy” flavor to vape, being fruity, fresh, and sweet all at the same time. It’s no surprise that it features high on many vapers’ lists of favorite flavors. Personally, I think watermelon is more enjoyable when paired with strawberry or something similar, rather than with cooling ice flavoring. For me, that is as true here as it is in other disposable ranges.

Without the Ice Boost enabled, the flavor is sweet and almost juicily refreshing. The Ice Boost seems to dull the flavor on my taste buds, and it loses much of what makes it tasty. It isn’t horrible by any means, but of the flavors I tested, Ice Boost added the least to the Watermelon Ice flavor.

Peach Mango Watermelon

Lost Vape suggests that this flavor is the sweetest of the flavors I was given to try, and so, as someone who doesn’t particularly like sweet vape liquids, I was expecting to like this the least. As it turns out, the exact opposite is true. Peach Mango Watermelon is by far my favorite flavor of the four.

It is sweet, in the way that almost all disposables are these days, but the combination of flavors somehow makes the overall taste less sweet than they might be on their own. Adding the Ice Boost seems to intensify this mixed-flavor effect, making it even more appealing to my taste buds.

Maybe it’s the mango, which I often feel as a sort of smokiness to vape liquids. In any case, if I had to recommend one of the four flavors over the others, Peach Mango Watermelon would be the clear winner.

How Long Do They Last?

Lost Vape Orion Bar 50K - 4

This latest version of the Orion Bar contains 28ml of 50mg/ml vape liquid, and Lost Vape suggests that this could provide up to 50,000 puffs. These aren’t the first disposables offering that many puffs, but they are up there with the highest capacity examples.

Assuming you are an average vaper, taking 200 puffs a day, each of these $20 vapes could last you for 250 days. How likely that is is debatable, but I can’t disprove it. It’s worth noting that the 50,000 puffs estimate is likely based on low-nic mode and could be significantly lower if you constantly puff at high-nic strength.

The 920mAh battery does an admirable job, but this is a large vape with a large screen that can’t be disabled, so don’t expect a single charge to last more than a day or possibly a day and a half.

Somewhere in the middle is about the average I experienced during my tests, which involved switching between modes more than you probably would. The relatively small battery and 2A charging at least mean that recharging time is not excessive. I saw average full recharge times of around 45-50 minutes, and a 50% charge took as little as 20 minutes.

How Do They Vape?

Lost Vape Orion Bar 50K - 3

The Lost Vape Orion Bar vapes tick many of the expected boxes for modern disposables. The flavors are good and likely to hit the spot for anyone used to disposables, and with 15 to choose from, most people will be able to find something they like. The ability to adjust the ice hit and nicotine strength means that both flavor and vape experience can be tailored to suit your needs throughout the day.

The draw is fairly tight, as expected from an MTL vape, and vapor production is very good, particularly when using the high-nic strength. The throat hit intensity varies between flavors and depends on the settings combination, but it is generally pretty satisfying. I can’t attest to how much the nicotine strength changes between high and low modes, or even how that change is achieved, but the difference is noticeable. I found high strength most satisfying first thing in the morning, but I was glad to be able to switch to low strength as the day wore on.

The coil fires quickly and heats the e-liquid smoothly, with flavor remaining consistent throughout each puff. The coil also seems to be reliable. After two weeks of use, I have noticed no significant drop in flavor or efficiency.

Verdict
