Product Overview
Ooze is a brand that values creativity and brings fun to the industry. Many of its devices are designed to resemble characters or come in unique shapes and sizes. The brand began with a group of cannabis connoisseurs who wanted to create a device users could rely on after being disappointed by the options on the market.
With every Ooze device, you can count on vibrant colors, fun designs, and a reliable, long-lasting battery. Ooze offers a warranty on all of their devices, and one of their promises to their customers is that they will never release a product they wouldnโt use themselves.
Today, Iโm reviewing one of their 510 batteries: the Runt. Compared with Ooze’s other products, the Runt has a more subdued, simplistic design. It’s incredibly small and portable, and its open-cartridge design means itโs compatible with all 510 cartridges.
The Ooze Runt offers a wide voltage range, from 1.8V to 4.2V. It also features a 15-second preheat option and shuts off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. Inside each Runt is a 400mAh battery that can be fully recharged in just 30 minutes.
What makes the Ooze Runt stand out among so many other 510 batteries? Is it beginner-friendly? Keep reading to find out whether the Runt is right for you.

Design & Build Quality
With most Ooze devices, you can expect fun, vibrant colors and even maybe a device that looks like a character. However, the Ooze Runt is more on the simple side, and I would even say itโs quite basic in terms of design. While fun characters and unique shapes are cool, some vapers are just looking for something that is simple in design and which gets the job done, and thatโs who the Runt is aimed at.
The Ooze Runt is very small and compact, measuring only 55.3mm in height, 22.4mm in width, and 21.3mm in depth. The Runt is also very lightweight at only 23g, thanks to its all-plastic body. Itโs about as small as a 510 battery gets, so if portability is your main concern, this checks all of the right boxes. I can also completely conceal the device in my hand, so itโs pretty stealthy, too. If youโre less concerned about hiding the device and just want something easy to carry, the Runt has a lanyard anchor point, so you can wear it around your neck.
The black version of this device is very discreet, with little to no branding on the device. There is a small Ooze logo on the back of the device, centered within the grip, but thatโs it. This grip is integrated into the body, with a series of lines etched into the plastic, making the Runt less slippery and easier to, well, grip.
The front of the device features a power/draw button, two voltage adjustment buttons, and a large display that takes up most of the surface. The full-color screen clearly shows the battery percentage, voltage, and preheat timer at a glance. A fully green Ooze logo appears at the top of the display.
The deviceโs wide top base accommodates larger cartridges. While other devices may conceal the cartridge, which limits compatibility, the Runtโs open design lets you use any 510-thread cart. The trade-off here is that the cartridge is exposed, making breakage a real possibility if youโre not careful. Putting the Runt with a cartridge attached into a bag or pocket is not a great idea.
Getting Started
As with most 510 batteries, getting started with the Runt is quite straightforward. You can go from unboxing to vaping your favorite cartridge in less than a minute.
First, screw your 510 cartridge onto the top of the Runt. Once installed, ensure the cartridge is screwed on correctly and completely, and that there is no wiggle to the cart.
Next, turn on the Runt by pressing the power/draw button 5 times. This will turn on the display, which shows the battery level and voltage.
To adjust the voltage, use the dedicated voltage adjustment buttons just below the power button. The minus button will lower your voltage, and the plus button will increase it.
Press the power button twice to enter the preheat session. The preheat session lasts for 15 seconds and is shown on the display screen. Once this is completed, just hold down the power button to take a draw. The Runt does not support draw activation, so you have to press the button to vape.
While this section is short and simple, it shows how easy to use and beginner-friendly the Runt truly is. This makes it a great device for someone trying a 510 battery for the first time.
Features & Functions
One thing about 510 batteries is that theyโre usually limited in terms of features. Not the Runt; itโs small and portable, but it has enough features to make the most of your cartridge.
The display screen is probably one of the Runt’s best features. It is clear and large enough to show everything you need while vaping, and the UI is clean. For example, you can clearly see the voltage setting and your battery life as a percentage. Unlike devices that communicate battery life through LED colors, you donโt have to guess what blue, purple, white, or green represent here.
The bottom of the screen always displays the battery percentage, while the top shows either the voltage setting or the preheat timer. When you turn on the device, the voltage setting will be displayed and will remain on the screen until you either:
- Begin a preheat session, which will then show a 15-second timer on the display screen.
- Take a draw on the device, which begins the draw timer.
While the Runt has a timer to track the length of your draws, this feature isnโt very user-friendly because the timer doesnโt stay on the screen for long. Almost immediately after you release the button, the screen switches back to the voltage information, which makes it nearly impossible to view. For this feature to work properly, the display needs to keep the timer information on the screen for longer before switching back to the voltage setting information.
Another feature that I really love about the Runt is the wide voltage range. Being able to set your device as low as 1.8V and as high as 4.2V is not something you usually see in a 510 battery. For reference, the Lookah Snail features a voltage range of 3.2V to 4.2V. This is great because different materials and strains can benefit from different voltages, so you have a wide range to experiment with and find the best voltage for your cart.
Unlike many 510 batteries of this size and shape, the Runt doesn’t use an all-in-one button. All-in-one button systems can be a little frustrating because you have to memorize the button combinations, which can be a frustrating experience and take a lot of patience. But with the Runt, you have separate adjustment and power buttons, which makes adjusting the voltage, and just using the device, a breeze.
The power/draw button turns on the device and starts the preheat session. The only button combinations you will need to remember are:
- Press the power/draw button 5 times to turn on the device
- Press the power/draw button 2 times to begin the 15-second preheat
- Press and hold the power/draw button to draw on the device
As mentioned above, the Runt features a 15-second preheat option. To activate the preheat setting, click the power/draw button twice. A 15-second countdown will appear on the screen to let you know the device is heating up. Once the preheat session is complete, the display will return to the voltage setting information.
One feature I found a little frustrating is the 10-minute auto shut-off. Iโm someone who likes to hit my vape, set it down for 10-15 minutes, and then take another draw. But when I would go to hit the Runt, it had turned itself off. So then I would have to press the button 5 times to turn it back on, which isnโt the end of the world, but it gets frustrating having to turn the device back on multiple times a day.
With that said, I can see the value of having the auto shut-off feature, as it can save your battery, but I would have liked the option to disable it.
Battery & Charging
The Runt features a 400mAh battery that Ooze claims will deliver around 100 puffs before needing a recharge. But seeing as there is no puff counter displayed on the screen, and I did not track how many puffs I took before needing a recharge, I canโt confirm this claim. What I can say, though, is that I was able to get around 3 full days of use before needing a recharge. Thatโs pretty stellar battery life from a device this small, and it honestly lasts longer than I was expecting.
It also charges very quickly. From dead, I was able to fully recharge the battery in just 30 minutes. And with the Runt, there is zero downtime because you can use the device while it’s plugged in to charge, thanks to pass-thru charging, so I was never really left without it.
The display screen is also very helpful for keeping track of the battery level and monitoring it while it charges. I really like the full display screen, which shows the battery level accurately without having to guess what a color means or what percentage of the battery is tied to that color. The Runt is straightforward, and I think this is a great feature for both beginners and experienced vapers.
How does it vape?
Thanks to the wide voltage range, you can use the Runt with just about any concentrate cartridge. For less viscous concentrates, you can set your device to a lower voltage and be confident it won’t burn through your materials.
If you use more viscous concentrates, the 4.2V level can handle even the thickest materials.
The preheat option is also great for thicker concentrates like live resin and live rosin.
With the wide range the Runt offers, you’ll get a completely different experience depending on your desired voltage setting. For example, if you have the device set to 1.8V, you are likely to get excellent flavor but not much vapor. As you increase the voltage, you can expect to get more vapor production. But in my experience, no matter what I set the voltage to, the Runt delivered ample power to get great flavor from my carts.
While I didnโt experience any clogging during my use of the device, the preheat option is great for clearing out clogs, or even for just getting your session started. I used it most often for the latter, and I got great vapor right from the first draw.
With my favorite Delta 8 cartridge installed, I found the 3.5V setting to be my sweet spot for regular use. But when I wanted a little more vapor, I would turn it up to the highest setting of 4.2V for a few draws. Conversely, if I just wanted to chill out, I could simply turn it down to 3.0V for a more mellow and relaxed experience. Switching between different voltage settings is seamless thanks to the dedicated adjustment buttons, and itโs in these situations that I appreciated having them the most.
Verdict
