DUST 5500 Disposable Vapes Review

DUST Vapor is a disposable vaping brand that, while still relatively new, has seen huge success in Florida and other eastern states. What’s interesting about this brand is that their popularity has spread purely through word-of-mouth, with no other major marketing. When I heard this, I was shocked — and eager to see what all the hype was about.

The DUST 5500 is the one and only disposable vape currently available from DUST Vapor, with more devices planned in the future. Each one comes filled with 10ml of ejuice and a rechargeable 400mAh battery for up to 5500 puffs. There are 8 flavors available, most of which are candy options, but there is a mint flavor available too.

When something spreads by word-of-mouth, that means that it has got to be good, right? Of course, I had to find out for myself. I spent two weeks using the Dust 5500 disposables so that I can tell you everything that you need to know, including if they’re worth purchasing.

Design & Build Quality

These disposables are unique in their long, rectangular design. The overwhelming majority of disposables that I’ve used are short and boxy, or tall and cylindrical, so a unique design was nice to see. The body is made of aluminum, with panels and a mouthpiece made of PC, and each one feels fairly solid and robust.

Each Dust 5500 disposable is 114mm tall, 27mm wide, and 13mm thick. Even though they’re quite tall and a bit wide, they’re reasonably thin, so pocketing them is actually quite comfortable and barely noticeable if you’re using one at a time.

Each one is a tall rectangle shape with rounded corners. The sides are straight, so you definitely feel the edges when gripping them in the hand. Rounded edges would have made these more comfortable to hold.

The top and bottom of the Dust 5500 feature a shiny black plastic, while the sides and inner casing are made of aluminum. The sides are finished in a matte soft-touch coating which definitely feels nice and adds grip when you’re holding it.

The front and back of each Dust 5500 disposable have a decorative panel. This panel has a glossy finish, so it picks up a lot of fingerprints and they show quite easily, but they’re nice panels.

Each flavor features a different gradient on the decorative panels; for instance, Warheads Watermelon is a gradient of green to red, while Mango Peach is a gradient of yellow to orange. Printed on the front panel is a large DUST logo, “5500 PUFFS”, the flavor, and a small LED light. The back panel has a large QR code which takes you to their instagram page.

The mouthpiece is a rectangle shape with rounded edges so it’s much more comfortable to vape on these devices than it is to hold. The mouthpiece is nice and wide and the oval shaped opening is a decent size for great MTL draws.

On the bottom of each device there is a Type-C charging port and two airflow holes.

DUST’s 5500 disposables have a slim and unique shape that definitely stands out among the sea of disposables out there. I like that they’re easily pocketable due to how slim they are, they look pretty good, and they feel solid.

Features

Dust 5500 disposables are relatively simple, with no adjustable airflow or any other user-adjustable settings to worry about. Using them is as simple as removing them from the packaging, removing the stickers as well as the silicone plug in the mouthpiece, and drawing on the mouthpiece to vape.

As far as the specs go, they’re about what I would expect for a disposable of this size. Each one comes filled with 10ml of ejuice and a rechargeable 400mAh battery. You can expect to vape around 5500 puffs from each device, which is decent for the amount of ejuice inside. There’s only one nicotine strength option available, which is 50mg/ml.

The 400mAh battery is a little smaller than similar puff count disposables, which means that you’re going to be recharging more often. The total number of puffs that you’ll get will still be 5500, however I found myself having to charge them each night in order to prevent them from dying the next day.

Inside of each of these is a 1.0Ω mesh coil which does a great job of vaporizing the ejuice inside. The overall flavor is quite good, and I’ll go into more detail in the following sections of this review.

Flavors

DUST has 8 flavors available for their 5500 disposable. These are mostly candy-fruit flavors, but there’s also a mint option available. If you’re a fan of sweeter flavors then you’ll want to give these a try, but for anyone else who is looking for more mellow and subtle vapes you’ll have to look elsewhere. The available flavors are:

I’m going to describe how five of these flavors taste to me and what I think of them. However, keep in mind that just because I like a flavor that does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I don’t like a flavor this does not mean that you will not like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Mango Punch

This is a sweet, dense mango flavor that tastes a lot like a mango gummy candy. This flavor is very ‘wet’ and definitely a must-try for anyone who likes candied mango flavors. This is a flavor that I kept coming back to for more, even when I was using other flavors.

Warheads Watermelon

As the name suggests, this tastes like a watermelon Warheads candy after the sour has worn off. Like Mango Punch, the candied flavor is strong and has a wet taste and vapor. Super tasty, especially if you like the candy.

Midnight Ice

I can’t put my finger on exactly what this is, but it tastes like blueberry with menthol. The most accurate way to describe it is like a blueberry slushie. In any case, it’s really good and probably my favorite flavor of the bunch. The cooling effect is there but isn’t too strong, making it a good all day vape.

Sour Patch

It’s not hard to tell what this flavor is supposed to be and DUST did a great job recreating the taste. There’s some tangy, almost sour notes on the inhale, followed by a familiar candied sweetness. This one is actually not as sweet as the other flavors that I mentioned earlier, but still sweet enough.

Airheads White Mystery

The name says a lot, although it doesn’t tell the full story. Although it definitely reminds me of the candy, there’s something a little off. It doesn’t make me go “wow, yeah it does taste like that” but it’s still a good flavor. This one, like Sour Patch, is a bit more subtle with the sweetness but still quite sugary.

Performance

Okay so the design is solid, the specs are decent, and the flavors are good (even if they are pretty sweet). But all of this doesn’t matter if they don’t vape well. Fortunately, I don’t have any major complaints about the performance and I had a good experience during my time using the Dust 5500 vapes.

The draw is not adjustable but MTL vapers will like how it is. It’s a medium-MTL draw that isn’t too loose nor too tight. The vapor is wet from most of the flavors and quite dense too; denser than I was expecting.

The 50mg/ml strength hits perfectly without being harsh on the throat and provides good nicotine satisfaction from just a few puffs. Although smooth, I think that it will still be too much for vapers who are not used to vaping on this high of a strength. If that’s you, I don’t recommend getting these vapes.

What’s nice about these is that I don’t feel much of a difference in the draw even as the battery dies.However, consequently, that’s also a bit of a bad thing. You can’t tell when the battery is dying based on the draw alone and the battery indicator only lights up blue throughout the whole charge range. Ideally there would be another color, like red, to indicate when the battery is getting low. 

Another issue with the battery is the capacity. Most of the competition has a 500mAh+ battery which will get you through a day and then some, but I found these dying early on the next day if I didn’t charge them the previous night. I recommend charging each night so you aren’t caught with a dead vape.

As far as any other issues, I haven’t had any. There’s been no leaking from any of my devices and no malfunctions at all. The draw activation also works well, without having to pull too hard to get it to activate.

Verdict

If you have a sweet tooth then the Dust 5500 disposables are an option to check out. The candy flavors are very well done, with a lot of sweetness and accurate recreations. The draw and vapor quality are also good, so you get a really good vaping experience out of these overall.

Of course, if you’re the type of vaper that prefers more mellow flavors then you should probably avoid these. Personally, I don’t like my flavors to be too sweet or candied, but I still enjoyed using these. 

My main issue with the Dust 5500 disposables is the battery. It isn’t as large a capacity as would be ideal, nor does it last quite as long as I had hoped. But if you charge them each night, that pretty well eliminates the issue and you can easily get a good day of heavy vaping out of a single charge.
