The Federal Government of Canada has revised its stance on vaping, giving Canadians everywhere a reason to rejoice.
In an updated section about vaping, found on the Health Canada website, the Canadian Government provides information about vaping such as the risks, product safety, and regulations. That’s no surprise. But while other countries have been quick to point out the risks and hazards of vaping without ever mentioning their benefits to smokers, Canada is different.
Instead of disregarding how vaping can help smokers quit, Health Canada have taken a scientific and sensible approach to the subject. Now, if you’re a smoker, quitting smoking altogether is the best thing that you can do to improve your health. However, the majority of people will find that quitting “cold turkey” is too difficult to achieve.
The Government of Canada realizes this. While not completely risk-free, “completely replacing cigarette smoking with a vaping product will reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals”.
In their section about vaping, you’ll find information about vaping, vaping devices, eliquids, and the contents of vapor. Additionally, they’ve published multiple scientifically backed facts that prove that vaping is less harmful than smoking, and can help smokers quit.
“Switching from tobacco cigarettes to vaping products will reduce a person’s exposure to many toxic and cancer-causing chemicals.”
Vaping is less harmful than smoking. This is because many of the toxic and cancer-causing chemicals in tobacco and tobacco smoke form when it’s burned. Because vaping products do not contain tobacco (contrary to the popular, misinformed belief among non-vapers) and do not involve burning or smoke, vaping products contain nowhere near the 7,000 chemicals found in tobacco smoke, and at much lower levels.
“If you are not a smoker, vaping can increase your exposure to some harmful chemicals, that could negatively affect your health. Vaping could also expose you to nicotine which is addictive.”
This goes without saying, but if you’re underage or don’t smoke cigarettes to begin with, vaping could negatively affect your health. While vaping is safer than smoking, we can’t be completely sure of the overall health effects. Studies have shown mixed results, but it’s definitely safe to say that you’re better off vaping than smoking a cigarette.
It’s good to see a Government of a developed country come out and state the facts. This is good news for vapers everywhere, and we can only hope that other governments will begin to follow suit.
