The bottom line

While the MAXRAY RUSH is not the very best disposable I have ever used, it has several features that lift it above many of its contemporaries, and it can certainly hold its own against many of the most popular and well-known big puff disposables available today.

The overall design, while not groundbreaking or hugely unique, works really well, and there are several details that make it stand out. Not just the obvious things like the transparent tank and hidden display, but also little things like the rubberized mouthpiece, the placement of the mode button, and that multi-position airflow slider.

The flavor range could certainly be more varied and expansive, but the available flavors seem fairly well balanced. You have everything from the pure menthol of Cool Mint to the juiciness of Strawberry Burst or Blueberry Watermelon, and the sweet candy flavor of Fcuking Fab and Banana Taffy Freeze.

The addition of some extra leak-proofing technology is very welcome and would be appreciated even if the improvement is only minimal. I canโ€™t say I have ever had much of an issue with this type of vape leaking, but itโ€™s still great to see brands making quality-of-life improvements to a type of device that has not seen much innovation in recent years.

The MAXRAY RUSH is a solid, cost-effective, and well-designed disposable big puff vape. It is well worth considering if you are looking for a sweet, fruity, or icy disposable that can provide up to a couple of weeks of use from a single tank.

Product Overview

The MAXRAY RUSH is the first product from MAXRAY to hit the U.S. disposable market, so of course we had to take a look and see what this big puff device has to offer.

The MAXRAY RUSH is the very definition of a big puff device, offering up to 80,000 puffs from a single 25ml tank of e-liquid. It offers two distinct power modes, adjustable airflow, and an anti-leak technology called Juicy Guard, all powered by a 900mAh battery.

There are currently 12 different flavors to choose from, covering all of the normal disposable vape favorites of fruit, ice, mint, and candy, but only one strength: 50mg/ml or 5%. In such a competitive marketplace, that fairly tight range of options could be seen as a negative, or as a sensible, focused approach that ignores the sort of flavors and strengths no one buys anyway.

I was fortunate enough to test a few different MAXRAY RUSH devices over the last few weeks, so let’s see where it sits in the world of large-capacity disposables.

  • Size: 96.95mm x 51.85mm x 28mm
  • Weight: 105g
  • 25ml of E-liquid
  • Up to 80,000 Puffs
  • 5% (50mg/ml) Nicotine content
  • Dual Mesh 1.0ฮฉ coil
  • Draw activated
  • Two power modes: Normal/Boost
  • MTL draw
  • 900mAh Rechargeable battery
  • Type-C 2A Charging
  • 12 Flavor options

Design & Build Quality

MAXRAY RUSH - 2

The MAXRAY RUSH follows the short and wide form factor that many, if not most, large-capacity disposables use nowadays. At 97mm tall and 51mm across, the size and shape make it a good fit for most hands, while the rounded edges and corners mean that it is comfortable to hold.

The main body is made from single-color hardened plastic, with an insert panel of a contrasting color that hides the display and the large e-liquid tank offset to one side. The tank itself is completely transparent, a nice feature that allows you to see exactly how much ejuice remains. This not only reduces โ€œrunning outโ€ anxiety, but also allows you to see the Juicy Guard in action (more on that in a moment).

  • MAXRAY RUSH - 5

Opposite the tank, on the other side of the body, youโ€™ll find the mode control button (not a firing button, as the MAXRAY RUSH is draw-activated only) and the USB-C port. The positioning of the button, low on the body and away from where your fingers naturally sit, makes sense as it reduces the risk of accidental presses. Many similar devices place it on the base, where the MAXRAY has its airflow slider, but this positioning works just as well.

The mouthpiece is wide and slim and sits in the center of the top of the device. Unlike the rest of the body, this has a slightly rubberized finish, which feels noticeably nicer on your lips than hard plastic would. Combined with its relatively small size and slim profile, this soft coating makes the mouthpiece feel intentionally designed, rather than just something stuck on top to suck through.

Features

  • MAXRAY RUSH - 13

While there does not appear to be a display on the MAXRAY RUSH at first glance, pressing the button or taking a puff reveals one hidden behind the colored insert panel on the front. It doesnโ€™t show much information, just battery level and mode, with a small animated graphic icon for flair, but itโ€™s still useful. It is also bright, relatively clear, and easy to read.

You can choose between two power modes: Normal and Turbo. Normal mode is essentially the same as an Eco mode, and it is under this setting that you are most likely to achieve the huge 80,000-puff lifespan the MAXRAY is capable of. Turbo mode is for when you need more flavor intensity and hit strength, but it will drop the suggested e-liquid lifespan to 50,000 puffs. The overall difference in the vaping experience between these two modes is not massive, but it is noticeable, and it is always nice to have any extra adjustability in a disposable vape.

MAXRAY RUSH - 4

Speaking of adjustability, there is also an airflow slider hidden away on the base of the device. This offers three airflow settings: closed (no holes), mid (two holes), and full (three holes). The MAXRAY RUSH is, as almost all disposables are, an MTL vape. As such, the airflow is fairly tight no matter the setting, but you can certainly notice the difference between fully open and closed. Even if the airflow range isnโ€™t the widest I have ever seen, having a slider is still preferable to a simple hole that needs to be blocked with a finger, such as those found on many older devices.

While more of a functionality feature than something you can directly interact with, the Juicy Guard that I mentioned earlier is worth a bit more consideration. Juicy Guard is anti-leak technology designed to seal the e-liquid off from the coil chamber when the device is not being used. Itโ€™s that red ball thing you can see inside the tank, and it works automatically every time you stop drawing on the vape. Beyond that, no interaction is needed to reduce leaks (and likely reduce the risk of coil flooding and spitback) other than thinking to yourself, โ€œoh, thatโ€™s pretty coolโ€.

At just 900mAh, the battery is probably the least exciting feature of this device. 900mAh isn’t terrible for a disposable; indeed, it is probably about average. The exact power output is not specified anywhere that I can see, but is unlikely to be more than 22W. I had no problems with the battery running out in the middle of the day during my tests, and I very much doubt you would either.ย  A full charge is going to be more than enough for a full day of use for anyone other than the most hardcore vaper, even if you are using Turbo mode constantly.

Flavors

MAXRAY RUSH - 3

The MAXRAY RUSH is available in 12 flavors. While this isnโ€™t the largest range, nor one of the most unique, it has a good mix and includes some very popular options. The full range is:

  • Banana Taffy Freeze
  • Blue Razz Ice
  • Blueberry Watermelon
  • Cool Mint
  • Fcuking FAB
  • Frozen Pina Colada
  • Juicy Grape
  • Juicy Peach Ice
  • Miami Mint
  • Sour Gush
  • Strawberry Kiwi
  • Strawberry Burst

Sadly, as is always (and understandably) the case, I didnโ€™t get to try every flavor available. The ones that sound most interesting to me are Banana Taffy Freeze and Sour Gush, neither of which I got to try. Hereโ€™s what I thought of the flavors that did pass my lips, but keep in mind that just because I like a flavor, that does not mean that you will like it, and vice versa. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Blue Razz Ice

Blue Razz Ice is such a well-known flavor mix that I tend to use it as an indicator for how well the other flavors in a range have been handled. Happy to say that this version is as nice as most I have tried. Fruity, not overly sweet, and a good hit of cooling on the throat.

Miami Mint

Full disclaimer: I hate mint and menthol as the predominant flavor in vape juice. It just makes me feel like Iโ€™m sucking on toothpaste. That said, this Miami Mint is not as minty as some, and has a good mix of sweetness and menthol. If you like menthol, this will likely hit the spot.

Frozen Piรฑa Colada

Far fruitier and less sweet than I was expecting, but still a bit too much for me. It is certainly not unpleasant, and it undeniably has a tropical taste, but this was probably my least favorite of the five flavors I got to taste.

Blueberry Watermelon

Juicy, fruity, and not too intense, the Blueberry Watermelon was a surprise standout for me. I find that watermelon can go one of two ways in vape juice: cloying and overpowering, or natural and refreshing. This one falls into the second category, and I would happily hit this all day.

Fcuking Fab

I love the (undefined) mix of fruit flavors in this Fcuking Fab, but as is always the case with this flavor profile, the sweetness mixed with a lack of significant cooling is too much for my tastes. If you are a fan of candy or dessert juices, this will likely be a hit.

How do they vape?

MAXRAY RUSH - 1

The MAXRAY RUSH is undeniably an MTL vape, and it does not pretend to be otherwise. You only need a basic knowledge of the difference between MTL and RDL/DL vaping to understand that a 1.0 coil, low wattage (likely 18-22W), and low airflow are all MTL features. Most disposable users want and expect an MTL experience, so thatโ€™s all fine anyway.

As mentioned earlier, the draw is fairly tight even with the airflow fully open. It is extremely tight when it is either partially or fully closed. Again, this is all good for MTL. I found that I preferred the airflow open, as this helps to cool the vapor a bit more than otherwise, and also takes some of the kick out of the 5% strength e-liquid.

The flavor and vapor production are nicely consistent from puff to puff, but there is a noticeable improvement in both when you click into Turbo Mode. As mentioned, this also increases how hard it hits your throat, but sometimes that is exactly what you need after a stressful day at work. I did notice a bit of a drop-off in flavor if the battery was very low, but this is often the case with this type of device, and it was not as bad as I have experienced with other devices and did not affect my enjoyment very much or for very long.
