Our Verdict

The Argus P1 is an interesting device with a design that can only be described as futuristic. It is a super portable pod device and the unique lanyard holder is both cool and useful.

It uses the Argus line of cartridges which are easy to find, and both the 0.7Ω pod and one 1.2Ω pod deliver good flavor. Both pods last and keep their flavor for a while, and they work great with nicotine salts that are up to 50mg in strength. The adjustable airflow also allows you to set the draw to anywhere from a loose MTL to a tight MTL draw, so you can get the draw to just how you want it.

While the “PD Fast Charging” will fully charge the P1 in 18 minutes, that’s only if you have a PD fast charger. Still, with a standard charger it only took me closer to 30 minutes. That’s still really fast, and it makes the charging speed one of the best features of the Argus P1.

If you are looking for a great pod device that is super portable, delivers great flavor and is fast charging then I can easily suggest that you pick up the Argus P1.

Voopoo has delivered time and time again with high quality devices, so I’m optimistic that it will be no different with the Argus P1 pod vape. It uses the Argus line of pods, so you can choose between the pre-installed coil version or a pod with replaceable coils. The pods hold up to 2ml of ejuice and are recommended for up to 50mg nicotine salts.

The Voopoo Argus P1 features the GENE AI 1.2 chip which adjusts the power as you draw on the device and reaches a maximum wattage output of 20W depending on the resistance and battery level.

The Argus P1 comes with a 800mAh battery that supports Type-C PD fast-charging (3A). One of the biggest selling points of the Argus P1 is that it can charge from dead to full battery in around 18 minutes.

Our readers and vapers alike have come to value products from Voopoo such as the Argus XT, the VMATE E and the Drag 3. Their products are well-built, reliable, and among some of the most beautifully designed devices on the market.

Is the Argus P1 the pod vape you have been looking for this whole time? Keep reading to find out more.

Design & Build Quality

  • VOOPOO Argus P1 - 1

The Voopoo Argus P1 is quite the looker and I immediately fell in love with the design of this device. The shiny green body matches beautifully with the tinted PC plastic and gold accent features and hardware.

The device stands at just 74.6mm tall, 46.7mm wide and 17.4mm deep. It’s safe to say that this device is extremely portable and it is a great option for on-the-go vaping. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it is heavy, but it does have some weight to it.

I received the green version to test for this review and it has held up quite well. The paint has shown zero signs of chipping or peeling, and this includes the gold lanyard loop and hardware. The Voopoo Argus P1 is available in the following colors:

  • Green
  • Red
  • Silver
  • Gun Metal
  • Black

The body of the Argus P1 is square shaped, similar to the Drag Nano 2. However the edges are more rounded and softened which makes it very comfortable to hold in the palm. The rounding of the edges, along with the materials used to make this device, does make it a little on the slippery side.

While looking at the front of the device, you can see both green painted zinc alloy on the left side of the front, and tinted polycarbonate (PC) on the right side. There is a golden embossed Argus logo printed vertically on the green metal. There are also two gold screws that attach the device to the right PC portion. You can see the circuit board through the tinted plastic, which looks very futuristic.

The polycarbonate plastic wraps around to the right side of the device, and through the tinted plastic you can see four LEDs. These LEDs light up sequentially as you draw, and the Argus P1 automatically adjusts the wattage output depending on the pressure of your puff. This helps to preserve battery life, so it’s a cool feature, but it can also be confusing if you don’t know what’s going on. I’ll touch more on the LEDs in the battery section a little later.

Now for one of the most interesting design features of the Argus P1, the golden bar (that sounds so fancy and rich). This bar anchors on to the frame inside of the device, which is visible through the clear PC case. From the inside, it continues up and out the top of the P1 and creates a lanyard loop.

I think the best thing about this design is that it gives you the comfort of knowing that the lanyard loop is not going to just break off. It’s visibly secured to the structure of the device itself, so you can swing it around on your lanyard all you want. Just be careful that your lanyard doesn’t break!

The back of the device is very similar to the front with tinted plastic on the left side of the device and  green zinc alloy on the right. You can more clearly see the golden bar through the plastic portion of the back of the device. There is also a small Voopoo logo on the outer edge of the green metal side.

Finally, we take ourselves to the metal side of the device which is where you can find the airflow adjustment slider. The slider is very sturdy and works quite well. It’s firm and allows you to make precise adjustments, allowing you to really fine-tune the airflow.

Pods

  • VOOPOO Argus P1 - 9

The Argus P1 comes with two pods straight out of the box, one 0.7Ω pod and one 1.2Ω pod. The P1 uses the Argus line of pods, which is great because you can purchase pods either with the coil pre-installed, or pods that allow you to replace the coil yourself.

Both of the pods included with the Argus P1 are meant for MTL vaping and you can achieve anywhere from a loose to a tight MTL draw depending on the setting of the airflow.

Each pod holds up to 2ml of ejuice and is best used with nicotine salts up to 50mg in strength. The ejuice that I used in both pods had excellent flavor and the performance of the P1 is up there amongst the best pod vapes that I have used.

Depending on the pod that you use, the Gene AI 1.2 chip will recognize it and set the wattage range accordingly. The 0.7Ω has a wattage range of 5-18W and the 1.2Ω pod has a wattage range of 5-12W. As I mentioned earlier, the harder you puff, the higher the wattage will be for your draw.

The mouthpiece is very comfortable to use and the opening is a good size that makes the draw pleasant and satisfying.

The pod attaches to the device using magnets. The magnets are strong enough to hold the pod in place, but not too strong that it makes it impossible to remove. To remove the pod, firmly grip on the pod and pull it out. To replace it, slide it back into the opening and the magnets should do the rest.

There is the slightest wiggle to the pod but nothing like the Argus Pod I used previously. The pod here definitely has a more snug fit and the fitment is much better this time around.

To fill the Argus P1 you need to remove the pod. Sometimes this can be a task on its own but with the P1 that is not the case. It is really easy to remove the pod and reinstall it.

Airflow

VOOPOO Argus P1 - 6

The airflow adjustment on the Argus P1 is a slider, similar to that of the Argus Pod, however, I prefer this airflow slider on the P1. The slider here is firm and allows you to move it just the smallest amount for precise airflow adjustments. This allows you to set the airflow to just how you want it.

While using the 0.7Ω pod and the airflow completely opened I was able to achieve an excellent loose MTL draw. As you close off the airflow it gets tighter and warmer.

The 1.2Ω pod offers a tighter MTL draw, even in the most open airflow setting. As you close off the airflow the draw gets significantly tighter; too tight for my preference.

The flavor from both pods is outstanding, and the ejuice that I used tasted delicious with each draw.

As I mentioned previously, the P1 uses the Argus pods, so it should be easy to find replacements when the time comes. When there are so many devices using the same pods, pod availability is usually not an issue.

Battery & Charging

VOOPOO Argus P1 - 10

The Argus P1 comes with a preinstalled 800mAh battery, just like the Argus Pod. However, with the Argus Pod I was able to get closer to 2 days on a full charge, while the Argus P1 got me about a day and half on a full charge.

While the LEDs light up each time that you take a draw, the number of LEDs that light up only signals the strength of your draw (based on how hard you pull during your puff). To check your actual battery life you have to remove or insert the pod and this will light the LEDs up to indicate your battery charge level. The LEDs indicate your battery life as follows:

  • 4 White LEDs: 76-100%
  • 3 White LEDs: 51-75%
  • 2 White LEDs: 25-50%
  • 1 Red LED: 1-25%

The biggest selling point on the Argus P1 is the PD Fast Charging, which claims that the battery can be charged from dead to full battery within 18 minutes. This is true, but only if you have a charger that supports PD fast charging.

With a regular charger, you can expect slightly longer charge times but it’s still very quick. I charged the Argus P1 numerous times with a regular charger and each time it took about 30 minutes to get it fully charged. So not quite the 18 minutes if you used a PD fast charger, but 30 minutes is still much quicker than the Argus Pod device, which takes about 50 minutes to charge.

Another similarity to the Argus Pod is that this device does not support pass-thru charging. This is not a deal breaker for me, but I am quite forgetful and so sometimes I forget to charge my device regularly. Unfortunately, this has left me stranded a few times with a dead Argus P1 that I couldn’t vape. I would suggest charging the device every night or having a spare around for you to use while it is getting refueled.

Performance

VOOPOO Argus P1 - 7

The Voopoo Argus P1 is an excellent MTL pod vape that is button-free and uses draw activation. Each and every time that I went to use the device I did not have any issues and the draw activation worked flawlessly.

The Argus P1 does not have adjustable wattage, but the Gene AI 1.2 chip adjusts the wattage according to the resistance of the pod and the strength of your puff. In my opinion, this is perfect. If you want a lighter draw you can inhale more softly, and for a stronger draw you can inhale with more force.

I found both coils provided great flavor, however I preferred the looser draw on the 0.7Ω pod over the 1.2Ω pod. One of the greatest things about the Argus pods is how long they provide excellent flavor over a long period of time. I use ejuices that are on the sweeter side and this did not affect the coil life at all.

Again, much like the Argus Pod device, I did not experience any leaking or even condensation around the pod or on the part where the pod sits in the device. Voopoo states that these pods are made with a patented 3 layer leak proof design, and it seems to be doing its job.
