Geek Bar Skyview Disposables Review: Skies the Limit!

Design & Build Quality

The Skyview is a large rectangle shape with an entirely plastic body. It looks elegant with its rounded corners and sides but the reality when you hold it is that it’s rather large and heavy. It looks lighter and slimmer than it really is! At 100mm tall (including the mouthpiece), 53mm wide and 28mm thick, it’s not a device that I can palm. And at 105g in weight, I don’t forget that it’s in my pocket either.

Holding the Pulse X in one hand and the Skyview in the other, I can’t decide on which design I prefer. The Pulse X looks sleek and futuristic but the Skyview looks modern and more reserved. They’re both good looking devices and it’s hard for me to say that one is better looking than the other. 

Each flavor is finished with a different color in a slightly opalescent finish. There’s a bit of sheen and sparkle in the paint and it’s also a gradient from a solid color at the top to more white near the bottom.

The Skyview is made of all plastic and that’s something that I noticed anytime that I gripped one tightly. There’s a lot of flex in the front and back panels and it makes a squishy, crunching noise every time that I hold it too hard. Not exactly confidence inspiring.

Another issue that I have is the durability of the black plastic that covers the screen. It gets scuffed and scratched up so easily just from day to day use and it makes the device look very worn down. This doesn’t affect the visibility of the screen when it’s on but the scratches and scuffs are very noticeable when it’s off.

The top-front of the Skyview has a GEEK BAR logo and the bottom-front has the flavor printed. On the back, there’s a large Skyview logo near the top and a small GB logo near the bottom.

The mouthpiece is all plastic and almost like the one on the Geek Bar Pulse X, only there’s no silicone coating. It’s still comfortable to use but I like the silicone, slightly flexible mouthpiece on the Pulse X.

The 1.8” TFT screen is a big upgrade from previous Geek Bar devices like the LUSH and even the Pulse X. Instead of being on the side, it’s front and center and displays information in an easy to read way. It’s full color (a change from the Pulse X) and has a nice UI, which I’ll get into in the next section.

On the bottom of the Skyview is a Type-C charging port, the mode-switch button, and a dedicated airflow control switch which can be set in one of two ways. This is a nice change from the Pulse X which has the mode selection tied to the airflow control. With the Skyview you can independently change the mode and airflow which offers a bit more control over the experience.

Features

The main feature of the Skyview is the large, 1.8” TFT display. It’s hidden and basically invisible until you vape or press the button but then it comes to life in full color.

The majority of the display is taken up by a large circle which has the mode and wattage inside of it. The mode can be changed by pressing the button on the bottom of the Skyview. The three modes are:

• Soft: 12W
• Normal: 18W
• Pulse: 25W

The Skyview offers up to 25000 puffs but this is only if it’s used in soft mode. There’s no other information on how many puffs the other modes will offer but if I had to guess I would think that normal mode will offer ~20000 puffs and Pulse mode will offer 15000 puffs. Fifteen to twenty-five thousand puffs is the same range as the Pulse X, so it would make sense that the Skyview is also in this range.

When you vape, the screen changes to an animation of a large spinning ball with electricity coming off of it. It looks like a spinning star to me, which would line up with the Skyview name in a way, but who knows! It looks cool but it’s also a bit flashy and unnecessary. Cool or too much? You decide.

Underneath the large mode display are individual battery and ejuice level indicators. These are displayed as a percentage and also as five bars for each reading. I love to see exact percentage readouts because it makes it much easier to monitor your levels.

The airflow adjustment switch is two-modes: MTL and tight MTL. I love that this switch is independent from the mode selection because that was something that I didn’t love about the Pulse X.

Inside of the Skyview are two mesh coils which work simultaneously or alternate, depending on the mode that you’re in. I’m not sure of the specifics of how they work for each mode but my educated guess is that soft mode alternates between the two coils, Normal does the same but at a higher wattage, and Pulse mode pulses both coils at 25W.

The Skyview is currently only available in 50mg/ml which is a shame because this will prevent them from being sold in a lot of countries. Fingers crossed for a 20mg/ml version!

Flavors

There are 15 flavors available for the Skyview at launch. Some of these flavors are shared with other Geek Bar disposables like the Pulse and Pulse X but it looks like a few of them are new to the Skyview. These flavors are:

There aren’t many ice flavors in this lineup but there are two mint flavors to choose from. I’m going to describe how five of these flavors taste to me and what I think of them. However, keep in mind that just because I like a flavor that does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I don’t like a flavor this does not mean that you will not like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Peach Raspberry

Peach and raspberry go so well together that I’m surprised this isn’t a more popular flavor. A juicy peach flavor bursts out on the inhale, followed by a sweet and sharp raspberry taste. After inhaling, the raspberry flavor lingers around on the tongue and leaves a pleasant taste in my mouth. This flavor tastes very wet and full. It’s also fairly sweet and sugary. A top flavor for me.

Strawberry Ice

This is one of the few ice flavors that the Skyview offers but it’s not very cool or icy. This flavor has a milkshake element to it that makes this taste like a strawberry milkshake with only a very slight amount of cooling. If you like creamy, milkshake flavors then you should give this flavor a go but don’t expect it to be too cool on the palate.

Blackberry Fcuking Fab

Blackberry Fcuking Fab is a candied blackberry flavor but I’m not totally sold on how it tastes. The blackberry flavor on the inhale tastes like perfume and very floral and this flavor carries on through to the exhale. The floral notes are just a bit too strong for me.

Cherry Strazz

I’ve really been enjoying this flavor with the tart cherry and equally sweet strawberry flavors. A powerful and sweet cherry flavor starts the inhale off strong and then combines with a sweet strawberry flavor before finishing the exhale with a lingering cherry aftertaste. Along with Peach Raspberry, this is one of the best flavors for the Skyview that I tried.

Sour Watermelon Blue Razz

This flavor is sweet and I definitely enjoyed vaping on it but the sour watermelon and blue razz flavors are weak and it’s hard to taste them while vaping. What I most get from this flavor is just sweetness, coupled with a weak fruit flavor. The fruit flavors in this need a boost to really come across properly.

Performance

The battery on the Skyview is splendid. It’s an 800mAh battery and even on the middle wattage mode Normal (18W) I’ve been getting 2-3 days of usage out of a charge. Not only that but it recharges to 80% in 25 minutes and only takes 45 minutes for a full charge. While charging it displays the percentage too so you can easily see where it’s charged to. Oh, and it has pass-through charging so you can get in some vaping while it charges up.

I mentioned the battery life first because I got very familiar with draining and recharging these guys – I’ve been vaping on them pretty much non-stop since I got them. They’re really nice to vape with, and this is due to a number of factors. For me, the flavor, nice mouth-to-lung draw, and ability to switch the wattage and airflow as I wanted are what I liked about the Skyview.

I also like that you can feel a difference when switching between the three wattage modes. Soft mode delivers a medium amount of vapor and a good draw that feels like what I’m used to from other non-adjustable disposables.

Normal mode distinctly bumps up the power to where the draw is much stronger and the amount of vapor also increases. Normal to Pulse mode is not as significant of a change as from soft to normal, but I could still tell right away if I had accidentally switched from Normal to Pulse mode. 

Verdict

I mentioned this in the introduction of this review and my opinion on the Skyview remains the same – it’s better than the Pulse X in a few ways but I wouldn’t count out the Pulse X completely either.

The things that the Skyview does better are the independent airflow and wattage adjustments, as well as offering three output modes instead of the two on the Pulse X. It’s also a bit more inconspicuous with the design. Although it has a huge screen, it’s still not as flashy as the “starry display” on the Pulse X. 

The areas where the Skyview falls short of the Pulse X are in the build quality department because of the flexible body and ‘crunchy’ screen, easily scratched up display, and other small areas like the all plastic mouthpiece without a silicone coating. Call me picky if you want, I’m just keeping it real!

Between the Skyview and the Pulse X, you can’t go wrong with either. But if you want a bit more control over the wattage and airflow, the Skyview is the better choice.
