The bottom line

The L200 III or Aegis Legend 3 has been one of the longest awaited and most anticipated mods in a while and it certainly lives up to the expectations of what a great vape mod should offer.

It’s not that much different from the Aegis Legend 2 but the different locking modes solve a problem that many had with the Aegis Legend 2 which was that you couldn’t lock only the adjustment buttons. If this problem was stopping you from fully enjoying the L200, then the L200 III has you covered.

The touch lock/unlock mode is also incredibly convenient. There’s no need to hit any buttons or slide a physical locking switch, it just works and protects your coil when it’s in your pocket.

The Zeus Fli tank is also similar to the Z Subohm tank 2021 but the little changes like the push flip top cap, more refined design, and inclusion of the new Z XM coils make it a good reason to purchase the kit over just the mod.

If you are currently an owner of the L200 and don’t mind that you can’t lock only the adjustment buttons, there’s not much reason to upgrade to the L200 III. But if this is a problem for you, or if you’re looking for a new mod/tank to get, the Aegis Legend 3 will not disappoint you.

It doesn’t seem like it was three years ago that Geekvape released the L200, or Aegis Legend 2, but boy does time fly! That being said, a follow-up to this mod has been long overdue and so Geekvape has just released the successor to the L200, the L200 III (Aegis Legend 3).

The L200 III is a dual battery box mod that takes two 18650 batteries to function. It has a similar design to the Aegis Legend 2 and it will still fire at up to 200W, however there have also (expectedly) been some improvements.

The L200 III uses Geekvape’s latest AS Chip 4.0 and it also features automatic locking and unlocking of the device which works purely by holding the mod. When you put it down it locks, and when you pick it up it unlocks. Pretty nifty stuff!

If you opt for the kit, it comes with the new Zeus Fli Tank which has a 5.5ml capacity and which uses Geekvape’s Z Series of coil.

If you’re in the market for a new mod/tank, is the L200 III kit worth picking up? How about for current owners of the L200, is it worth upgrading for? I’ll touch on all these questions and more in this in-depth review on the Aegis Legend 3 Kit.

Design & Build Quality

  • GEEKVAPE Aegis Legend 3 Kit - 1

If you look at the Aegis Legend 3 and don’t think that it looks any different from the Aegis Legend 2, I don’t blame you. The changes are subtle overall and the design has remained pretty much unchanged from the previous iteration of the device. I really like the look because it’s clean, premium, and modern and it’s also very compact for a dual battery vape mod.

Size has also remained nearly the same with the the L200 III being 88mm tall, 55.36mm deep, and 26mm wide. This is just a little deeper than the L200. It’s still very small for a mod that holds two 18650 batteries inside of it and you won’t find many that are smaller.

The days of rubberized exteriors on Aegis mods are long gone and the Aegis Legend 3, like the Aegis Legend 2, has a body that is mostly metal. There’s still some rubber present, such as on the battery door on the bottom of the mod and on the cover that protects the USB-C port near the top, but that’s about it.

But even with the lack of a rubber exterior shell, the Aegis Legend 3 is still IP68 waterproof and dustproof and it’s also shock proof. Now, this doesn’t apply to the tank that you use on it but the mod itself can survive some rough treatment. Drops onto concrete? No problem. Falling off a counter onto the floor? Also no problem. I’m still not sure that it’s more shock-proof and drop-resistant than the original, but the L200 III has given me no reason to doubt it so far.

  • GEEKVAPE Aegis Legend 3 VS Aegis Legend 2 - 1
Aegis Legend 3 (Left), Aegis Legend 2 (Right)

The design changes from the Aegis Legend 2 are as follows:

  • The fire button which is now a bit slimmer
  • The adjustment buttons which are now smaller and flush with the display
  • The cover for the USB-C port has a metal emblem
  • The top on the Aegis Legend 3 has a textured, diagonal line pattern
  • The battery door latch has been changed to be easier to use
  • No physical locking switch

As you can see from the above list, the changes are subtle and so the Aegis Legend 3 will look and feel familiar to anyone who has used the Aegis Legend 2. That’s a good thing if you liked the size and button placement.

  • GEEKVAPE Aegis Legend 3 Kit - 11

The display on the L200 III is a 0.96” TFT color display and it’s rather bright with a nice UI as well. The fire button is a rocker style button that is slimmer than the one on the L200 but still wide enough for comfortable use. The adjustment buttons are located below the screen and are flush with the display. They’re still easy to use though and very responsive.

The battery door is spring-loaded and the switch is way more secure than ever before. It takes a lot of force to get it to open, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on your age and how much finger strength you have. Good for security but hard on the fingers. The Aegis Legend 3 takes two 18650 batteries and they fit nicely and snugly in the battery compartment with no rattle at all.

Features

GEEKVAPE Aegis Legend 3 Kit - 20

Like the design, the Aegis Legend 3 is very similar in features to the Aegis Legend 2 with very minimal changes overall.

The L200 III can still fire at up to 200W and comes with POWER, TCR, ECO, SMART, BOOSTING, and MEMORY modes. There’s no VPC mode any longer, so if you like variable power curves you will be disappointed. Boosting mode is now the name for ‘Bypass’ mode and this will output the strongest wattage for the coil.

Power mode is your basic wattage mode which allows you to adjust the wattage however you like. SMART mode is also a wattage mode, however this mode will set the wattage to the optimal output for the coil resistance as determined by the mod and also limit the maximum wattage for the coil that you’re using. SMART mode is great for those new to vaping as it keeps you within safe limits to get the best experience and most life out of your coil.

For the 0.15Ω coil, the wattage range is from 70 to 85W and defaults to 80W. For the 0.4Ω coil, the wattage range is from 50-60W and defaults to 55W.

TCR mode allows you to set the TCR value for the coil material that you are using and vape in temperature control mode. You can also set the wattage when you select TCR mode. The TCR value can be set from 10 to 5000.

ECO is a battery saving mode that does not allow you to change the wattage and will fire at the lower side of the optimal range for the coil resistance that you are using.

Finally, MEMORY mode allows you to save different wattages for different coil resistances. I didn’t see much use for this mode but maybe I’m just not using it correctly. I just used SMART mode most of the time and I didn’t have any trouble when switching coils, but maybe I’m missing something with this mode.

To switch modes, press the fire button three times, then select ‘Modes’. Pressing the fire button three times is also how you bring up the menu and the options here will let you clear the puff counter, change the locking mode, change the color of the theme, and change the screen brightness.

While I never recommend using your mod to charge your batteries, the L200 III features 3A Type-C charging if you’re stuck without a charger.

Locking Modes

The coolest feature of the Aegis L200 III has got to be the touch locking and unlocking. By default the mod is in this mode but this can be changed to other locking modes as well. How it works is when you touch the grip on the back of the mod, the mod unlocks. Once you place the mod down or put it in your pocket, it locks.

It’s a really cool feature and it works without having to press any buttons or flip a locking switch. If you’re forgetful like I am then it’s a really nice feature to have. I’ve burned so many coils by forgetting to lock my device that this is kind of a god-send.

There’s only one issue that I came across with this touch lock/unlock and that’s when I’m wearing shorts. Some of my shorts pockets are really thin and this trips the sensor into thinking that I’m holding it, which then unlocks the device in my pocket. Other than this though, it’s been pretty solid.

The other locking modes are button and unlocked. Button lock allows you to lock just the adjustment buttons while leaving the fire button accessible. This is great if you find yourself changing the wattage accidentally because you can still vape and keep the wattage at whatever you set it to.

Unlocked mode is no lock at all and allows you to use either the adjustment or fire buttons.

Zeus Fli Tank

  • GEEKVAPE Aegis Legend 3 Kit - 18

The Zeus Fli is a modernized and updated version of the Zeus Sub-Ohm Tank 2021. Like the Aegis Legend 3 to the Aegis Legend 2, the Zeus Fli is very similar to the Zeus 2021 tank. Small changes but nothing too major.

Design wise, the Zeus Fli looks more modernized and polished. There’s knurling on the top cap and bottom cap and it has a tidier shape with more defined lines.

The biggest change is the top cap which pushes back and then flips up. It’s more secure than I thought it would be and it takes considerable force to push it back so it won’t easily open if you’re not intending to open it. Once flipped open there are two small and round fill holes that easily accommodate all sizes of bottle tips.

The Zeus Fli can hold up to 5.5ml of ejuice and comes with a bubble glass preinstalled. There’s also another spare bubble glass included with the L200 III kit but no straight glass.

The Zeus Fli is compatible with all Z series coils but it comes with two of the newer ones which are the ‘XM’ coils. These are a Z0.15 XM Coil (0.15Ω) coil and a Z0.4 XM Coil (0.4Ω). These are the same coils that come with the T200 and Z200 kits and they are compatible with the Z subohm tank.

The coils push into the bottom of the tank quite easily but you have to line up the notches on the coil in order to get them to fit properly. Threading to remove the bottom cap of the tank is smooth and feels great.

The Zeus Fli has “Top to Bottom” airflow, just like the Zeus 2021 tank. It has a top airflow control ring which works on a stopper and which can be fully opened or fully closed. There are two large and wide airflow slots so you can get plenty of airflow for the low-resistance, high wattage coils that this tank supports.

The airflow control ring is very stiff at first but loosens up a little with continued usage. The overall build quality of the tank is excellent and fits the design and build quality of the L200 III quite nicely.

Performance

GEEKVAPE Aegis Legend 3 Kit - 21

With the design and features of the L2000 III and Zeus Fli tank being so similar to the Aegis Legend 2 and Z Sub Ohm Tank 2021, you might expect similar performance – and you would be right. The new Z XM coils definitely add a little extra flavor and depth to the vapor from the Zeus Fli tank but the overall vaping quality and experience are close to what you can get from the previous generation kit.

This is a subohm tank kit so the airflow and draw are geared towards direct lung and RDL vapers. There are lines on the airflow control ring to make precise adjustments easier and for a RDL draw, leaving the airflow about 1-2 notches open was ideal. For a cloudy direct lung draw you can open it up from here to fully open, depending on how much airflow you want. The airflow is very smooth and does not feel rough or choppy.

The 0.15Ω Z XM coil has been my go-to and preferred coil to use with this kit. The wattage defaults to 80W in smart mode and after experimenting a bit, I had no reason to go higher or lower than this. It’s a powerful draw with a 6mg ejuice but not too powerful, and the flavor is just great.

The other coil that comes with the kit, the 0.4Ω Z XM coil, is great too for lower wattage vapers or those who appreciate a more ‘chill’ vape. The vapor is still warm, just not as powerful as the other coil. The flavor is also a little less strong but still very good overall. This coil defaults to 55W in smart mode but I actually pushed it up closer to 60W and used it at this wattage most of the time.

Verdict

The L200 III or Aegis Legend 3 has been one of the longest awaited and most anticipated mods in a while and it certainly lives up to the expectations of what a great vape mod should offer.

It’s not that much different from the Aegis Legend 2 but the different locking modes solve a problem that many had with the Aegis Legend 2 which was that you couldn’t lock only the adjustment buttons. If this problem was stopping you from fully enjoying the L200, then the L200 III has you covered.

  • This device has a 2 part locking and firing system… this device will not fire unless skin is on the fire button… touching the back will unlock the device even against your shirt, but it wont fire unless skin is on the fire button as well….
