Our Verdict

The Geekvape AU is even better than the Obelisk U in my opinion, and that’s for a couple of different reasons. One is the design; it just looks better and more finished. It’s a clean looking pod vape and if you’re vaping, why not do it with a device that looks good?

Another reason that the AU is better than the Obelisk U is because it comes with two pods. You get both of Geekvape’s U cartridges included in the package, and this lets you vape either MTL or tight MTL right out of the box.

The overall performance of this device is great and it’s very easy to use. Regular nicotine ejuices and nicotine salt ejuices will work with the AU, and the flavor that these pods deliver is certainly not lacking.

All around, the AU is an excellent little pod vape. Whether you’re looking for your first device, or you’re an experienced vaper looking for something simple and handy, I don’t think that you’ll be disappointed with the Geekvape AU.

The Geekvape AU (Aegis U) is a new kit from Geekvape’s “U Series” of pod devices. There are four devices in the U Series, and all of them are compatible with the same Geekvape U Cartridges. There are currently two types of U cartridges available: a 0.7Ω pod and a 1.1Ω pod.

The Geekvape AU, like the Obelisk U, is a simple device without adjustable airflow or adjustable wattage. However, the big difference between the two devices is that the Geekvape AU features “tri-proof protection”, similar to Geekvape’s Aegis Legend devices. It’s water and dust resistant, with an IP64 rating, and it’s also crack-resistant and durable.

The Geekvape AU will fire at up to 20W and features a built-in 800mAh battery that recharges with Type-C charging.

Design & Build Quality

  • Geekvape AU - 6

I didn’t particularly like the design on the Geekvape Obelisk U (which I recently reviewed), so thankfully the Geekvape AU looks completely different. It has the same tried-and-true form factor, but the design is fresh and new.

The Geekvape AU is 92.62mm tall, 26.6mm wide, and 15.8mm thick. It also weighs only 48.3g. It’s a great size for a pod vape because it’s small and easy to put into a pocket or bag, but it’s large enough that it’s comfortable to hold. I like the rectangle shape and rounded edges, and the flat bottom is nice too because it easily stands up straight.

The casing is mainly made of metal. Although Geekvape doesn’t list exactly what type of metal it is, I’m guessing from the light weight that it’s made of aluminum alloy. My review unit is labeled as being silver, but it’s more of a very light blue. Judging from the Geekvape website, I’m quite sure that this is actually the “Blue Purple” color, but it came in a mislabeled box. I’m positive that this will be fixed for production units though. Engraved on both sides of the device is “GEEKVAPE”, along with an angular line that runs the contour of the leather panel.

The leather panel is a nice touch to this device. It adds a bunch of grip and makes the Geekvape AU look and feel more high-end.

One one side of the AU is where you’ll find a small LED bar, and above it there is a small pinhole airflow hole. Near the bottom on this same side, there is a small pinhole which serves as a venting hole for the battery in case it’s needed.

The AU has a flat bottom, so it stands up straight easily. This bottom is made of rubber, so it adds some grip when standing up and prevents the device from sliding. Personally though, I dislike rubber bottoms on vapes because they just end up toppling over when the slightest touch.

Geekvape AU - Geekvape U Cartridges

The Geekvape AU uses Geekvape’s “U Cartridges” which are compatible with four of Geekvape’s new pod devices: the Geekvape AU, the Obelisk U, the Wenax U, and the Sonder U.

Two of these U Cartridges come included with the AU: one 0.7Ω pod that works at 16-19W, and one 1.1Ω pod that works at 9-12W. The draw with the 0.7Ω pod is a loose MTL draw, while the 1.1Ω pod delivers a MTL draw that is slightly tighter.

Each pod will hold 2ml of ejuice and they attach to the battery magnetically. There are two strong magnets that hold the pod firmly to the device and there’s no movement or wiggling of the pod once it’s inserted. It also takes a fair amount of effort to remove the pod from the device, so it wont’ come out accidentally.

The pod has a light tint, but it’s still not a problem to see your remaining ejuice. Most of the time, you’ll have to remove the pod from the device to check on your ejuice level, as half of the pod is not visible when installed.

You also have to remove the pod to fill it up, as the fill port is located on the side of the pod. Filling is straightforward and hassle free, and the rubber bung securely seals the fill hole.

Features

Geekvape AU - 3 IP64 Rating

Much like the Obelisk U, the Geekvape AU is a simple pod device. It doesn’t have adjustable wattage or adjustable airflow, so what you get is kind of what you get. The only difference in the draw will be from which pod you use.

The Geekvape AU is also a draw-activated-only device, so there are no buttons whatsoever. This makes it best suited for new and beginner vapers, or even experienced vapers seeking a simple and easy to use device.

The AU has a maximum wattage output of 20W and it automatically adjusts the power output depending on which pod you use. With the 0.7Ω pod, the AU will fire at a constant wattage output of 16W. With the 1.1Ω pod, the AU will fire at a constant wattage output of 11.5W. This constant power output keeps the strength of the draw consistent, even as the battery dies.

The standout feature of the AU is that it’s IP64 rated as water and dust resistant. This makes it sort of like their Aegis line of mods, but just not quite as waterproof. It’s totally protected again dust, however only protected from splashes of water. It’s not rated for low-pressure water, and it probably won’t survive being submerged. Still, some water protection is better than no protection, and it will survive getting splashed.

The AU is also marketed as being durable and crack-resistant. I’ve dropped my unit onto the concrete and onto the floors in my house, and so far it’s still working. There are small chips in the metal frame and some scuffs in the leather, but it’s otherwise still in good working order.

Battery life & Charging

Geekvape AU - Charging

The Geekvape AU has an 800mAh battery — a little smaller than the 950mAh battery on the Obelisk U. It’s still a good size battery for the size of the device, and it does the job of getting me through a days worth of vaping without dying. If you don’t vape too heavily, then you can likely get two days of use out of a single charge. If you’re a heavy vaper, you’ll want to charge the device each night.

The small LED bar on the side of the AU lights up every time that you insert or remove the pod, and also lights up each time that you take a draw. The battery life status is as follows:

  • Red: 0-30%
  • Blue: 31-60%
  • Green: 61-100%

The Geekvape AU charges with Type-C charging, and the port is located on the bottom of the device. The LED will light up and pulse in the same colors as the battery life indicator while charging, with the exception of when it’s nearing a full charge. Once the device is fully charged, the LED will light up solid green.

Performance

Geekvape AU - 4

I just reviewed the Geekvape Obelisk U which uses the same 0.7Ω pod as the Geekvape AU, so the performance is still fresh in my mind. Unsurprisingly, using the 0.7Ω pod in the AU provides the nearly exact same experience as I had with the Obelisk U, with the exception of the draw. The draw with the AU is a little looser and not as tight of a MTL draw as with the Obelisk U.

The flavor and vapor are very good, and the performance is great. I used nicotine salt ejuices in 20mg and 35mg strengths, and this pod does well with all of them. It’s a little powerful with 50mg salts though, and so I would say that those are better suited for the 1.1Ω pod.

The 1.1Ω pod delivers a tight MTL draw that is warm and which delivers a good throat hit with high strength nic salt ejuices. This pod fires at 11.5W in the AU, but it doesn’t feel underwhelming or too weak. It’s still a powerful draw and it feels just right.

The draw activation is great on the AU, too. It activates instantly upon taking a draw and it doesn’t feel too sensitive. It seems to be tuned pretty well for even light draws to work, while not activating by itself.

Verdict

The Geekvape AU is even better than the Obelisk U in my opinion, and that’s for a couple of different reasons. One is the design; it just looks better and more finished. It’s a clean looking pod vape and if you’re vaping, why not do it with a device that looks good?

  • My one says it’s charged on green but when I go to take a hit the led flashes red and doesn’t pull not sure what to do as I’ve changed the pods, removed the juice and put more in and even put it on charge for longer. Please reply with what to do, thank you

    • Hi Adam (nice name!),

This doesn’t sound like a charging issue, but sounds like there’s a problem with the connection between the pod and the device. Take a look at the connections inside the device (where the pod attaches) and look for any damage. You might also want to try cleaning out the connection points and see if that helps.
