If you have been vaping for a while then you will have heard of the Mi-Pod. It was, and continues to be, an extremely popular pod vape, particularly among new vapers. The company that makes the Mi-Pod, Mi-One Brands, was originally known as Smoking Vapor but rebranded in August 2019. Different name, same company.

Recently, Mi-One Brands released the Mi-Pod 2.0 device. It comes in a bunch of nice and pretty designs and the 0.9Ω pods are meant to work with both regular and nicotine salt ejuices. The small and slim device houses a 1250mAh battery and features a physical on/off switch for added convenience.

This device was sent to me by Mi-One Brands for the purpose of this review. However, this does not in any way affect my opinions or ratings of the device.

Design & Build Quality

One of the first things that stood out to me about the Mi-Pod 2.0 are the color options. I’m using the ‘Vortex’ color and, although it’s right up my alley, it’s really blingy! The other 3 colors are not quite as in-your-face, but they’re still not what I would call discreet.

According to their website, these designs are inspired by their “values of love, compassion ,and community” and use sacred geometry to “symbolize our shared oneness”. While I’m not sure about all of that, I do like the “Vortex” color. The other colors aren’t really my style but perhaps you’ll like them.

These “sacred geometry” designs are etched into the metal body so you can feel the designs when you run your fingers over the case. Mi-Pod 2.0 is also engraved into the body. The body has shown no signs of wear, but my Vortex unit has a gold trimmed frame that is starting to chip and wear out in certain places. It’s especially noticeable on the gold Mi-One logos that are raised on each side of the device.

While I’m not big on the colors, I do like the small and slim size of the Mi-Pod 2.0. At 72.5mm tall, 45.6mm wide, and 13mm deep, it’s smaller than a credit card although not quite as thin. But compared to other pod vapes the slimness is noticeable and makes it extremely easy to slip it into my jeans pockets.

If you would prefer to wear it around your neck, you can do that too. You get two lanyard attachments in the box that will attach to the anchor point on the top corner of the Mi-Pod 2.0. There’s no lanyard included though so that you’ll have to grab from another vape that came with one, or purchase one separately. I find the Mi-Pod 2.0 to be perfectly wearable around my neck and it doesn’t feel heavy or uncomfortable but I still preferred to use it without the lanyard.

Aside from the gold paint fading, the overall build quality is good. It’s a really light device but it still manages to feel solid. It feels nice to hold in my hand and the physical on/off switch is firm and hasn’t come loose. The pod also inserts snugly into the battery and does not move at all once inserted.

Speaking of the pods, they’re pretty great. They only insert one way into the battery so you have to line up the flat side and the rounded side accordingly. It’s a tight fit and the mouthpiece portion of the pod is sloped and smooth so I found it difficult to remove it at times but it’s definitely not going to come out in your pocket.

The pods house a 0.9Ω resistance coil and you get two pods with the device. The pods are very lightly tinted so it’s still super easy to see how much ejuice you have remaining. Filling the pods is just a matter of unplugging the rubber stopper on the side of the pod and filling it up.

How to Use the Mi-Pod 2.0

Mi-Pod 2.0 7 copy

This is a pod vape that is very well suited for new or beginner vapers because it’s just so easy to set up and use. This section is going to be short because there really is not that much to it.

Out of the box you’ll want to remove the pod and unplug the rubber stopper on the side of the pod. The Mi-Pod 2.0 can be used with either regular nicotine ejuices or nicotine salts so fill the pod up with whichever type of ejuice you prefer. Once you’re done, reinsert the rubber plug and give the pod 10 minutes to saturate properly.

Once the pod is saturated you can insert it into the device and turn it on. Turning on the Mi-Pod 2.0 is done by flipping the switch on the front of the device into the up position. You’ll see the 4 LED’s light up and you’re ready to vape. Simply draw on the pod to begin vaping.

These pods are disposable so when you start to taste that the flavor is falling off or your ejuice starts tasting funky, just chuck the pod in the garbage and fill up a new one using the steps above. The Mipod website states that each pod is refillable up to 5 times but I’ve personally refilled a single pod more than 10 times and it’s still performing great. There’s no harm in using the pod until the flavor starts dropping off. In fact, you’ll save money on pods this way too so don’t go by their ‘refillable up to 5 times’ statement and instead use your own judgment.

Battery & Charging

Mi-Pod 2.0 8 copy

The Mi-Pod 2.0 has a 1250mAh battery which is huge considering the size and slimness of the device. Even with consistent daily use, I’m only having to charge it every couple of days because the battery life is so good with these 0.9Ω pods.

There are 4 LEDS on the front of the device that indicate your battery charge level. These will light up when you take a draw, or when you turn the Mi-Pod 2.0 on:

  • 4 LED Lights: 4.0 – 4.2V
  • 3 LED Lights: 3.6 – 4.0V
  • 2 LED Lights: 3.3 – 3.6V
  • 1 LED Lights: Less than 3.3V

The Mi-Pod 2.0 recharges using Micro-USB which is a shame. Charging times aren’t bad but Type-C would obviously have been better. It takes around an hour and 15 minutes to recharge when plugged into my PC but it does have pass-thru charging so you can vape it while it recharges.

Performance

Mi-Pod 2.0 11 copy

The Mi-Pod 2.0 looks like a real winner — but does it vape like one?

When it comes to the flavor, these pods are excellent. Flavor production is really good and makes me want to keep using it, even after I’m finished with this review. I tested the Mi-Pod 2.0 side by side with a few of the current top pod vapes, all using the same 35mg nicotine salt ejuice, and the Mi-Pod 2.0 held its own.

The draw activation works really well and responds like it should. The draw on this device is a loose MTL draw with no way of adjusting it, but it hits really well. I would like the ability to tighten up the draw just a little bit but it’s still perfectly vapeable the way that it is.

As their website states, you can use either regular nicotine ejuices or nicotine salts. I used both and they vaped well with all sorts of PG/VG ratios. I mainly used 70VG ejuices but it handled 60/40, 50/50, and even 80VG without any issues. A highlight of these pods is that they do not leak, even with hard draws and 50VG ejuices.

Another highlight of the pods is the pod longevity. These can easily be refilled way more than 5 times. As I said earlier, I’ve refilled a single pod more than 10 times and haven’t noticed a drop off in performance yet.

Verdict

Pod vapes are a dime a dozen, but good vapes are becoming harder to find. The Mi-Pod 2.0 is one of these good pod vapes and it’s simple enough to use that anyone can figure it out and be on their way vaping. But as simple as it is to use, it doesn’t compromise on flavor and performance and still delivers an experience that is competitive with the best pod vapes out there.

There are a few cons to the device (the fading gold paint and potential difficulty removing the pods) but these aren’t nearly enough to outweigh the good qualities that the Mi-Pod 2.0 brings to the table.

Whether you’re a new vaper looking for your first device, or an experienced vaper looking for a device that just works and doesn’t leak, the Mi-Pod 2.0 easily gets my recommendation. As for me, I’m going to continue using it long after this review.
