Our Verdict

VAPORESSO has made two more great devices for beginner vapers and DL vaping. The PT60 and PT80S are nearly the same device, the choice of which one to get comes down to the portability and your preferred wattage. If you want a smaller, more portable DL device then you should go with the PT60. If you don’t mind a device that is a little larger, you want the convenience of a swappable external 18650 battery, and you want to vape from 60-80W, then go with the PT80S.

If you’re not a beginner, and you are looking for a pod mod with a lot of features and modes, then these are not the devices for you. The flavor and clouds are great in variable wattage mode, but that’s about all that you get.

The GEN PT60 & GEN PT80S are two of the latest devices from popular vaping manufacturer, VAPORESSO. These are both pod mods that are meant for DTL vaping and they come with VAPORESSO’s new xTank pod. Both devices are very similar to one another but the main difference between them is that the GEN PT60 has an internal 2500mAh battery and will fire at up to 60W, while the GEN PT80S takes one 18650 battery and will fire at up to 80W.

Other features of these devices are the “Double Top System” which integrates the top airflow and top filling into one system, the “Quadra leak resistance”, and “COREX inside” which is VAPORESSO’s flavor boosting technology meant to increase the flavor and lifespan of the GTX coils. Both devices are compatible with all of VAPORESSO’s GTX coils.

These devices were sent to me by VAPORESSO for the purpose of this review.

Design & Build Quality

VAPORESSO GEN PT60 and PT80S - 2

The first thing that I noticed about these two devices is the build quality. When you first hold them in your hand you feel the soft-touch coating (which VAPORESSO says is made with 4 layers of coating) and it feels comfortable and rich. I can also feel how sturdy both of these devices are. From the frame, right down to the buttons, everything is firm and there’s no rattling or loose parts. The buttons feel great, as do the entire devices. If I had to describe these in one word, it would be “quality”.

The design is equally nice and impressive. The PT80S has a larger frame and bezel which suits the larger size of the device appropriately. The PT60 has a small and thin bezel that also suits the size. Both devices have diagonal lines etched into the body for grip and it definitely helps to prevent drops. In the middle of this grip there is VAPORESSO’s new logo which blends in subtly and seamlessly.

In addition to the VAPORESSO logo on the grip, VAPORESSO is also printed on the bezel of each device but again, it blends in and is very subtle. There isn’t a lot of branding on these devices which helps to keep a clean and elegant look.

One major difference between the PT60 and PT80S is the size. The PT60 is the more portable of the two and is only 112mm tall, 35mm deep, and 28mm wide. The PT80S is a little larger at 132mm tall, 30mm deep, and 29mm wide. Oddly enough, the PT60 is deeper than the larger PT80S but this comes down to the fact that the PT60 packs a built-in 2500mAh battery while the PT80S takes a single 18650 battery for power.

  • VAPORESSO GEN PT80S

A big plus for these devices is that they are both extremely light. Even with a battery installed, the PT80S is still just as lightweight as the PT60. This lightweight makes these devices an attractive choice for DL vapers looking to leave their tank + mod setup at home.

The PT80S has a magnetic battery cover that pulls away to reveal the battery compartment. There’s enough room for a single 18650 battery, but that’s about it. The compartment is snug and there is no battery rattle or movement at all when the battery is inserted. There is also no wiggling or movement of the battery door and it feels as if it’s one piece with the rest of the mod. If you didn’t know that it took an external battery then you wouldn’t guess that the cover comes off.

Both devices have a 0.91” OLED display that is in black and white and it frankly looks dated. But even though it doesn’t look the most modern, it gets the job done and clearly displays your wattage, coil resistance, a puff counter, and your battery life with a battery indicator.

Features & Functions: GEN PT60 & PT80S

VAPORESSO GEN PT60 and PT80S - 5

As I mentioned previously, the PT60 will fire at up to 60W and the PT80S will fire at up to 80W. However, the menu system and features of both devices is exactly the same. Don’t get too excited for a range of features though — these devices seem to be targeted towards novice and beginner vapers and only have a basic set of functions and modes.

To bring up the mode menu on either device, simply hold both adjustment buttons together. Now you’ll see VW, VV, SW, DEFAULT, and EXIT. VW is variable wattage mode, VV is variable voltage mode which lets you adjust the power output in volts, and SW lets you toggle Smart Wattage on or off. Smart Wattage automatically sets the wattage when you insert a coil and this can be helpful for newer vapers who are unsure what wattage to vape at.

That’s it. No other modes or features to speak of. These are truly beginner friendly devices. If you are looking for a pod mod that will allow you to vape in temperature control mode or give you the option of preheat settings, these are not the ones.

GEN PT60 and PT80S Button Combinations

  • Power ON/OFF: Press the fire button 5 times.
  • Lock the adjustment buttons (devices will still fire): Press the fire button 3 times.
  • Flip the screen orientation: Hold the power and UP adjustment buttons.
  • Enter menu: Hold both adjustment buttons.
  • Clear puff counter: Hold power and DOWN adjustment buttons.

xTank Pod

VAPORESSO GEN PT60 and PT80S - xTank

The xTank is VAPORESSO’s latest pod tank and it is much different than their previous pod tanks. It has a 4.5ml capacity and comes with a number of features like “Double Top System”, “Quadra Leak Resistance”, and “COREX Inside” technology. I’ll break down what all this means for you guys.

The double top system is a fancy way of saying that the fill port and airflow control share the same ring on the top of the tank. You twist the top of the tank to adjust the airflow, but you can also twist the airflow control ring fully clockwise and the fill port will pop out of one of the airflow slots. From here you just unplug the rubber stopper and fill the tank like you would any other tank. This design adds some leak resistance to an already leak-resistant, top-filled tank.

The quadra leak resistance refers to the 4 elements of the tank and coils that should prevent leaking. This is the two rubber o rings on the coils, the self-circulation ring, and the bottom ring of the tank. The self circulation ring recirculates ejuice back to the coil, while the bottom ring seals the tank from leaking out.

Lastly, “COREX Inside” is VAPORESSO’s new flavor boosting technology which works in conjunction with their GTX coils. It uses “Morph Mesh” which supposedly heats up more evenly than traditional mesh, and also uses “cumulus cotton” which VAPORESSO states is fluffier and thus delivers more eliquid and also more consistent puffs.

The xTank is compatible with VAPORESSO’s entire lineup of GTX coils and coils simply push-fit into the bottom of the tank. You have to match up the flat sides of the coil with the grooves on the bottom of the pod, but otherwise they are easy to install. Removing the coils on the other hand is a bit difficult though and hard on my nails.

The xTank attaches magnetically to the battery compartment on both devices and clicks into place so it does not rotate freely. The drip tip is wide bore and built in, so you can’t switch it for another drip tip. However, the wide bore makes it perfect for DL vaping which is the entire goal of these kits.

Battery and Charging

VAPORESSO GEN PT60 and PT80S - 1

Battery life with these devices is going to strongly depend on the coil that you use and the wattage that you vape at. If you’re using the PT80S then it will also depend on the battery capacity (mAh) of the 18650 battery that you use.

With the PT60 battery life is not bad, especially when using the 0.4Ω coil. I got hundreds of puffs per charge, over 2 days of use, from a single charge. Battery life is worse with the 0.2Ω coil due to the higher wattage requirements, but still acceptable for the small size of the device and the 2500mAh battery.

The PT60 charges back to full in 1 hour which is very quick. It also features pass-thru charging so you can vape on it while it recharges.

Performance

VAPORESSO GEN PT60 and PT80S - 4

VAPORESSO’s GTX coils are a proven coil lineup so it came as no surprise to me that all four coils performed excellently. The lower resistance coils provided the best flavor (0.2Ω with the PT60 and 0.15Ω with the PT80S) but they are all very flavorful coils that I enjoyed using. The wattage ranges for the coils are accurate and I had the best experience when I stayed inside of these wattage ranges.

Both the PT60 and PT80S deliver consistent power with the xTank and the only real difference in performance is how high you can set the wattage. If you’re a new vaper then you can just stick with the variable wattage mode and turn on smart wattage if you’re unsure what wattage to vape at. All of the coils put out good flavor and clouds when set to the smart wattage setting and you really don’t need to adjust it.

  • I just purchased the vaporesso PT60. I use smart wattage, but it doesn’t change the voltage. Voltage is set at 1 not matter if I turn the wattage to max. I can adjust it with it’s variable voltage setting. but don’t know what to put it at. I’ve tried all these calculators but I don’t know the battery amps out put. Cant. find it anywhere. I turned it up to 2 and I think it’s better, hard to tell. Using a .6ohm coil at 25 watts. I’m not sure what to set it at, do people even mess with voltage and only change watts? Confused because I had seen many reviews that that state most devices run around 3.7v. There’s a sheet that says 3.7v is in the safe zone but that seems too hot. Any help would be great .
