The Wismec Luxotic MF may be one of the craziest, and most interesting mods you’ll hear of this year.

Out of the box, the Luxotic MF will function as a single 18650/21700 battery squonk mod. But here’s the interesting part: you can also remove the squonk bottle and use the Luxotic MF as a dual 18650, parallel battery vape mod, which is super neat.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the Luxotic MF has one more very unique feature: you have the option of DIY swapping the variable voltage board out for the included direct output board. That’s right, all you have to do is remove a few screws, and you’ve got a whole different mod.

But just how practical is the Luxotic MF? Because while the idea of a mod that you can mod sounds fun, I wanted to know just how well it functioned in daily-use. So I’ve been busy testing and vaping away, and in this in depth review I’m going to go over everything you need to know about the Luxotic MF & Guillotine V2 RDA.

Let’s start with the box contents.

Luxotic MF Mod

  • Wismec Luxotic MF Review

The Luxotic MF is an all-metal mod, and is very well constructed. Being made of stainless steel, it has a very solid and heavy feel to it in your hand, and doesn’t feel cheap at all. On the top of the mod there is some Luxotic MF branding.

The front of the Luxotic features an interesting, almost wood-like pattern that is etched into the mod. Also on the front of the mod is a 0.91” display, and two small adjustment buttons. Interestingly, there is no Micro-USB port on the Luxotic MF, but I think that it’s a good thing; you shouldn’t be charging your batteries in your mod anyway!

Luxotic MF Battery Door

The battery door on the Luxotic features a magnetic squonk cutout that will allow you access to your squonk bottle. But if you’re not going to squonk, you can simply replace the magnetic cover on the inside of the battery door, and the Luxotic now looks like a regular box mod.

But the most interesting part about the Luxotic is its battery compartment. Firstly, it can be used as a squonker with a single 21700 or 18650 battery. This configuration is best suited with a single coil RDA. The squonk bottle will hold 7ml of eliquid, and is soft and well-built. Pretty standard so far.

  • Luxotic MF 21700 + Squonk Bottle

But if you’re looking for more battery life and don’t care to squonk, the Luxotic also has you covered. By removing the squonk bottle and using the included battery adapter, the Luxotic MF transforms into a dual 18650, parallel battery box mod.

In addition to its crazy battery support, you also have the ability to swap to a direct voltage circuit board. This board will still offer numerous battery protections, however, it will allow you more of the “mech” feel. The only problem here is that it takes forever to swap out the boards. This is going to be something that you do every once in a while, enjoy, and swap out days/weeks later. Definitely not something that is easy enough to be done every day.

Luxotic MF Direct Voltage Output Board

The fire button the Luxotic is large and square, and very clicky. The fire button is rather loud, but feels satisfying to press. The adjustment buttons are a bit quieter, but are just as clicky and satisfying to use.

Overall, the build quality is very good, and the design is unique and interesting. While I love the fact that the battery compartment can support multiple different configurations, the board swapping is a bit of a hassle. It’s nice that you can use a direct voltage board, but it’s little tedious to swap out. Personally, I would rather use the variable voltage board with the display.

Guillotine V2 RDA

  • Guillotine V2 RDA

Included with the Luxotic MF kit is the Guillotine V2 RDA, and it’s actually decent in terms of flavor. The Guillotine V2 is made of stainless steel, and has the same type of wood-style etching/engraving as the Luxotic MF. It comes with two ULTEM 810 drip tips: one is short and wide bore, the other is tall and wide bore.

Similar to the Luxotic MF, the Guillotine V2 RDA can be used in multiple ways. First, it can be used as a bottom airflow RDA. There are cutouts in the deck that lead directly underneath the coil, and you can get some decent flavor.

But you also have the option of removing the top cap, flipping the mid cap upside down, and using the Guillotine as a top airflow RDA! I thought that this way very interesting, as it gives you multiple ways to find what you like best.

The only thing is that the top cap on the Guillotine is very small and thin. It also doesn’t have any knurling. This makes it nearly impossible to grip and adjust the airflow when you have it in top airflow mode, so make sure you set your airflow how you want when replacing the top cap.

Interestingly, the top cap of the Guillotine is insulated to keep it cool. However, I didn’t really feel a benefit. The top cap still got extremely hot.

  • Guillotine V2 RDA Build Deck

The build deck is “guillotine” styled, and features two terminals that clamp down on your posts. When building, be careful not to loosen the negative post. If you’re too rough, it will dislodge and cause a short. If you do loosen it or encounter problems, simply tighten the screw on the bottom of the atomizer.

The juice well on this RDA is very deep, and will afford you some room to drip and squonk without worry of flooding or leaking. All-in-all, a nice design. I like the ability to flip the airflow, but we’ll see how it performs a bit later.

  • Wismec Luxotic MF

The Luxotic MF is powered by the Avatar chipset (also seen in the Eleaf Pico Squeeze 2), and will fire at up to 100W in power mode. While not the most feature filled or customizable mod around, the Luxotic does offer good support for a few different modes: Power, Temperature Control, and Bypass modes. Of course, it will also support direct voltage output if you swap the boards.

To turn the device on or off, click the fire button five times. Standard. You can also lock the adjustment buttons by holding them simultaneously for a few seconds. However, this won’t stop the fire button from firing.

To switch modes, click the fire button three times. You can now select your mode with the adjustment buttons. Also, when in Temperature Control, you can lock your resistance by holding + button and the fire button at the same time.

  • Building On The Guillotine V2 RDA

While I want to say that building on the Guillotine is a piece of cake, it was mildly frustrating. In order to build two coils onto it, you have to use a coiling rod of some sort to hold them in place as you secure the clamps. Otherwise, your coils will be misaligned and badly positioned.

Also, you have to be careful not to be too rough. If you are, it will loosen the negative terminal, and cause shorting. If you do this, make sure your terminal is back in place, and tighten the screw on the bottom of the tank.

Overall, I wish that the posts were positioned opposite from each other, and that this was a single coil RDA. Building can be a little frustrating, and I would not suggest this to someone looking for their first RDA.

Vaping and Squonk Performance

When it comes to performance, the Luxotic MF is pretty solid. I was hitting this thing at anywhere from 70-90W all day long, and loving it. It fires near instantly which is great, but I do have a few things to say.

First of all, the battery life will barely get you through the day if you’re using a single battery and dual coils on the Guillotine V2. This makes it an odd situation, because in order to really use the RDA, you have to use dual batteries and can’t squonk. This kind of defeats the whole purpose of the kit.

Rather, if you want to squonk with the Luxotic you’re going to have to get yourself a decent single coil RDA. This is where you’ll get the best performance and battery life.

If you’re looking to drip, there are plenty of better, dedicated dual battery box mods that will suit you. While the Luxotic is decent, it will only fire at up to 100W, and some people will definitely want more power.

The Luxotic MF also worked great with the direct voltage board, but I prefered the options of the variable voltage board better.

Specifically talking about the Guillotine V2 RDA, I found that the flavor was best with the bottom airflow and short 810 drip tip. With top airflow or the taller drip tip, I found that the vapor was way too airy, and not very tasty. I would suggest keeping the airflow fully open with the bottom airflow configuration for the best results.

So, would I recommend the Wismec Luxotic MF? Maybe, if you like to tinker. It performs decently as a single battery squonker, but also provides multiple options for more advanced users. While the direct output board is a bit gimmicky, the support for different battery configurations is very neat and useful.

The Guillotine V2 RDA is decent, but nothing too special. For me, it didn’t pair well with the Luxotic MF because it required too much power from a single battery squonker. If this was a single coil RDA, I think it would have been a lot better.

Overall, the Luxotic MF is the jack of all trades, but master of none. It will take multiple battery setups and will work as a single coil squonker, but can also take dual 18650 batteries and work as a 100W box mod. In both cases, there are better dedicated mods to do the job. But if you’re looking for something different that will afford you many options, I definitely recommend checking it out. Until next time, Stay Versed!
