Biffbar LUX5500 Disposables Review: A Luxury Disposable?

As I mentioned in the introduction, Biffbar’s goal with their products is to make them fashionable as well as good, and they’ve done a good job of accomplishing this goal with the LUX5500. Each one is unique and distinct from other disposables on the market and that’s hard to do with the amount of disposables that are out there.

Each one features a leather wrap that covers 80% of the body, with plastic for the top, bottom, and a thin strip on the front side. Depending on the flavor that you get, the color of the leather wrap and the plastic shell will differ.  

Another thing that changes based on the flavor is the pattern on the leather wrap. All LUX5500 devices have a pattern of symbols on the leather which reminds me of a certain popular luxury brand. In addition to these “standard” symbols, there are also small fruits on the leather that relate to the flavor inside. For example, the Sparkling Orange Energy Drink flavor has small oranges and bubbles on the leather wrap, while Dragon Paradise has small dragon fruits and kiwis.

What’s cool too about the leather is that some of the wraps are embossed while others feature a flat finish. All in all, the leather looks and feels high-quality and definitely adds an air of luxury to the LUX5500.

On a thin strip of plastic on the front of the device is where you’ll find the BIFFBAR logo, as well as the flavor of the disposable. While this strip of plastic features a matte finish, the top and bottom plastic portions feature a shiny finish. It’s a nice contrast that you may not notice unless you’re paying close attention and I think it shows the thought that was put into the design of these disposables.

In addition to the nice materials and comfortable feel that these have in the hand, they are also quite tiny and light for being filled with 13ml of ejuice. Each one is 80mm tall, 41mm wide, and 19.5mm thick — small by any standard. They also weigh only 45g out of the box, so they don’t add much weight to your person.

Finally, on the bottom of each LUX5500 is where you’ll find the airflow hole, an LED light and the Type-C charging port.

While I personally think that the LUX5500 looks pretty good, I’ve heard mixed comments from those around me. I don’t think that it’s a polarizing design by any means, but I can see how the leather might not be for everyone. But how good it looks is not as important as how it performs, right? 

Features

These are small and light, but they have a lot to offer with their 13ml of ejuice and 650mAh battery. Each one is good for up to 5500 puffs in total and you can expect to get a couple of hundred puffs from a full charge. Whether this is a few days or a few weeks of usage will depend on how often you vape. For me, I was recharging every other day just to keep the draw strong and powerful like I like it.

At the time of writing this review, the LUX5500 is only offered in 50mg/ml nicotine strength. That’s good news if you are a high-nicotine vaper or if you’re a heavy smoker that is looking to make the switch to vaping. For everyone else, the 50mg/ml strength will probably be too powerful so you’ll want to look at a lower strength disposable to meet your needs.

The LUX5500 doesn’t have any other standout features or any adjustability at all. There’s no adjustable airflow but as it is you get a loose MTL draw from each one. If you’re unsure about what this means, make sure to check out our guide to the difference between DL vs MTL vaping.

The LUX5500 also has a mesh coil inside that Biffbar says “perfectly restore(s) the pure taste of e-liquid”. They also claim that this mesh coil results in no burning, no leaking, and no loss of flavor. I’ll go over how true this is in the performance section of this review.

Flavors

The Biffbar LUX5500 comes in more flavors than most other disposable vapes out there. There are 33 flavors available right now and possibly more will be released in the future. This gives you a wide variety of flavors to choose from and this makes it more likely that you will be able to get one that you like. The flavors that are available are:

As you can see from the list above, there are a lot of flavors and there’s quite a large variety in the flavor profiles. There’s a good choice of ice and non-ice flavors, as well as choices between fruit flavors, drink flavors, and even a tobacco flavor. I think it’s particularly interesting that they have a bunch of different mints available because that’s something that you don’t see too often. They also have a flavorless option available, Clear, for those who are looking for that sort of thing.

For this review I’ll be going over five of these flavors. I’m going to describe how these flavors taste to me and what I think of them. However, keep in mind that just because I like a flavor that does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I don’t like a flavor this does not mean that you will not like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Sparkling Orange Energy Drink

This is a mellow orange flavor with just the right amount of sweetness and a light vanilla undertone. It doesn’t have as much of that ‘carbonated’ feel to the vapor as some other pop flavors that I’ve tried but I like it the way that it is.

Blueberry Gummy Bear

The name is self explanatory. This is a blend of blueberry and gummy bear candy and, while it’s a bit sweet, it’s a really nice flavor. It’s mostly a candy flavor with the gummy bear taste being the most powerful, but the secondary blueberry flavor is nice and it adds something extra to the flavor profile. If you like sweet flavors then this could be for you but personally it’s too sweet for me to vape on all day.

Alaska Mint

Alaska Mint is like green chewing gum; minty but also sweet. The mint here is very strong so be prepared for an intense blast of coolness when you vape on it. The sweetness keeps me coming back to this flavor as it’s just enough to hook you without being sickly sweet. 

Love Story

This is an interestingly named flavor. Love Story doesn’t give you a clue about what it is, but I’m having something of a love story with it after trying it! This is a lemon, blackberry, and ice flavor. Sweet blackberry is the most prominent flavor, with a subtle lemon and a very light hint of cooling. It’s hard to describe this flavor, but the way that the blackberry and lemon flavors mix is really nice. It’s not quite as sweet as the Blueberry Gummy Bear flavor and this makes it a lot more enjoyable.

Dragon Paradise

Guava, kiwi, and dragon fruit. Yum. This was my favorite of the flavors that I tried, which is evidenced by the amount of times that I’ve recharged it (5+). I taste guava the most, followed by kiwi and a subtle dragon fruit flavor. These three fruit flavors mix really nicely together for a nice tropical vape that is at the perfect level of sweetness. If you try any of the flavors for the LUX5500, make sure that you try this one.

How do they vape?

I found that the way these disposables vape is heavily dependent on the flavor that you’re using. For the more bold flavors, like Love Story or Blueberry Gummy Bear, the throat hit is strong and the vapor is dense. For other flavors, like sparkling orange soda, the throat hit is not as intense and the vapor is lighter.

You’ll get the strongest throat hit, the best flavor, and the most dense vapor within the first 200 puffs of a charge. After that, the power dies off quickly. I found myself charging these way before they even died. It’s just hard to continue vaping on a device when it feels like I’m taking extra long draws just to compensate for the lack of power. 

The flavors are mostly good, although I think some (like Blueberry Gummy Bear) are just a bit too sweet. The fact that they offer 33 flavors off the bat is amazing and gives you a much larger choice of flavors than most other disposable brands, so that’s a big positive point for the LUX5500. I liked all of the ones that I tried and that’s a good sign for the overall flavor offerings. If all five of the ones that I tried are good, then I bet there’s a lot of other good flavors in their lineup too.

The mesh coil inside of these does a good job of delivering most of what Biffbar claims on their website, that is no leaking and no burning. I’m torn on whether it delivers on the “no loss of flavor” that Biffbar claims, as I found a very small bit of flavor drop off after recharging my Dragon Paradise disposable multiple times. However, since it’s only a minor drop off I will give it to Biffbar that this mesh coil is pretty good overall. 

Verdict

The LUX5500 is another good disposable to add to your “to-try” list. I like the “luxury” leather design because it’s so different from other disposables out there. Maybe you’ll like the look too, maybe you won’t, but it’s purely aesthetics. The actual build quality and construction of these devices is solid and I couldn’t find any issues with my units.

These are simple disposables that capture the root of what a disposable vape should be. They’re simple to use, requiring only that you inhale on the mouthpiece to vape, and they deliver a good vaping experience without needing any adjustments or user input. This makes them not only good for beginners but also for anyone that just wants a straightforward and good device.

Perhaps the biggest selling point of the LUX5500 is not the looks or performance, but rather the sheer number of flavors available. 33 flavors is a lot of choices and this makes it all the more likely that there will be a flavor in there that you’ll like. I liked all of the flavors that I tried (and I would say that I have pretty average tastes, I’m not too picky) so I definitely think that these flavors are worth giving a shot.
