The bottom line

The Play Bar 7500 sets itself apart from other disposables on the market in a way that is increasingly hard to do: with its flavors.

It’s not because the flavors are revolutionary or that they are that much better than any other disposable out there. It’s not even because they’re sweeter. In fact, it’s the opposite. I think the Play Bar 7500 is a great disposable because the flavors aren’t too sweet — a category that is severely lacking in the disposable market.

Additionally, the design is slim and small but still packs a lot of ejuice and longevity in each device. Even if you’re like me and take long draws, you’ll still be getting ~5000 puffs per small and compact disposable and that’s a good value.

The battery and ejuice level indicators make it easy to know where you are with each device which is convenient and nice to have. I’ve been seeing more and more newly-released disposables sporting this feature and very soon I think that it’s going to be the standard for all new disposable devices coming out.

In the past, MOTI has shown that they know how to make a good disposable vape. Now, with the Play Bar, they’ve further solidified their reputation as one of the best disposable manufacturers in the industry.

At the end of last year, I reviewed the MOTI Play Pod Kit. I loved the futuristic design and compact size, but there were a few issues that prevented me from fully enjoying the device. At the time, I couldn’t help but wonder if it would have been better as a purely draw-activated, disposable vape.

Well it appears that MOTI read my mind as they’ve just recently come out with the disposable version of the Play Pod Kit — the MOTI Play Bar. This disposable comes filled with 14ml of ejuice and offers up to 7500 puffs per device. These are rechargeable too with a 700mAh battery inside of each one.

Like the Play Pod Kit that it’s modeled after, the Play Bar 7500 has a small black and white display that relays your battery and ejuice levels. It also has an improved adjustable airflow dial so you can tweak the draw to your liking.

Design & Build Quality

It’s easy to see from just a quick glance that the Play Bar is modeled after the MOTI Play Pod Kit. While not exactly alike, no one would blame you if you mistook one device for the other. I’m glad that they kept the design here because it’s different from every other vape out there and rather unique in a sea of look-alike disposable options.

The shape is rectangular with rounded corners, and although it is larger than the Play Pod Kit that it is based on, it’s still small and slim. The Play Bar 7500 is 81.5mm tall, 46mm wide, and 18.6mm thick, which makes it smaller than most other large-puff disposables on the market. It’s easily concealable in my hand and equally portable.

The Play Bar 7500 only weighs 57g so it’s light enough not to be a burden but has enough weight that it doesn’t feel cheap. It’s the perfect disposable for anyone who is constantly on the go, or for vapers who prefer to vape on more than one flavor at a time.

The Play Bar 7500 comes in 10 colorways, with the one that you get depending on the flavor that you choose. All of the options have a clear plastic cover that sits over the front half of the device.

Underneath this clear plastic layer is a decorative layer that is either fully holographic, flat, or matte/satin depending on the flavor. All of the flavor options have a holographic band that runs horizontally along the center, as well as a holographic “X” and “01”.

Printed beside the holographic X is the flavor, while next to the holographic “01” is a small black and white display. This display is made to look much larger than it actually is because there is “PLAYBAR” and “PUFF 7500” printed on a black outer border in a font that makes it appear like it’s the screen itself. In reality, the actual display only takes up a quarter of this black box.

In spite of this illusion (or maybe because of it) the MOTI Play Bar 7500 looks clean, futuristic, and simple, all at the same time. It’s a handsome and attractive little disposable vape.

The back side of the Play Bar 7500 features a flat paint that (considering the abuse I put my vapes through) has held up well without any obvious signs of wear or damage. Even the clear front shell has been quite durable. Although there are some scratches, it’s not nearly as bad as I expected it to be at this point.

The side of the device features a single button which can be used to turn the power on or off, as well as illuminate the display. Just under this button is the Type-C charging port. On the bottom of the Play Bar 7500 is an adjustable airflow dial.

Features

MOTI Play Bar 7500 Disposables - 11

For the small size of the Play Bar 7500, you might not expect much based on just the appearance alone. However, it actually packs a surprisingly large amount of ejuice, 14ml, as well as a rechargeable 700mAh battery. Just a few years ago this would have been a much larger device so it’s incredible to see just how far vaping technology has advanced.

With this amount of ejuice and the ability to recharge the battery, the Play Bar 7500 is advertised to last for (you guessed it) up to 7500 puffs. But how will you know when the ejuice has run out? By using the display, of course.

The display on the Play Bar, while small, is useful and accurate. Upon taking a draw, the display will light up with a battery icon in the top left corner and a battery life percentage, telling you where the charge level is at. If you press the power button on the side, the display will switch to an ejuice level readout in percentage which is indicated by the droplet icon in the top left of the display.

MOTI Play Bar 7500 Disposables - 15

The Play Bar 7500 is only available in 50mg/ml (5%) nicotine strength. I’m disappointed to see that there are no other nicotine strength options available because this is going to exclude a large population of vapers from being able to use the Play Bar 7500. Vapers who are used to higher nicotine strengths are the only ones who will be able to use these disposables.  I don’t recommend them to anyone who is not a heavy smoker trying to quit or who is not used to vaping 50mg/ml as the nicotine concentration will be way too much and definitely unpleasant.

The airflow adjustment knob on the bottom of the Play Bar has been improved from the one on the Moti Play Pod Kit. It’s easy to adjust but not loose like the one on the Play Pod Kit. It stays where it’s set, so you don’t have to worry about it changing up on you while you’re just holding the device normally.

You can achieve a tight MTL vaping experience with the airflow dial almost completely closed and a regular MTL vape with the airflow open. You can also slightly close off the single airflow hole by adjusting the dial, giving you the option of somewhere in between MTL and a tight MTL. There’s a nice range of possible airflow adjustments and that’s nice to see on a disposable device.

Last but not least is the 700mAh battery. I was able to get 2-3 days of vaping out of a single charge, which is incredible for a disposable. The battery life percentage trickles down in 1% increments and is fairly accurate at telling when the battery is going to die.

I’ve had a few times where my Play Bar died at 2% but I would say that is in the allowable range of error; in any case I knew that it was about to be out of battery and that’s the whole purpose of the display.

The Play Bar charges reasonably fast too and only takes an hour to go from dead to fully charged up. The display will show the battery percentage rising as it charges, allowing you to gauge where the battery is at without having to remove it from the charger. You also have the option of vaping while it charges because the Play Bar features pass through charging, so even if it dies you’re not completely stuck without a vape.

Flavors

MOTI Play Bar 7500 Disposables - 3

The Play Bar 7500 offers 10 flavors to choose from. I’ve certainly seen more flavor variety and flavor choices from other disposable devices and brands, so the amount of options here is limited. Like other brands, the options are overwhelmingly fruity flavors with two mint options in there as well. The available flavors are:

  • Tropical Rainbow Blast
  • Cantaloupe Apple
  • Pink Bomb
  • Strawberry banana
  • Rainbow Cloudz
  • Miami Mint
  • California Cherry
  • Pomelo Pearl Grape
  • Watermelon Bubble Gum
  • Cool Mint

I’m going to describe how five of these flavors taste to me and what I think of them. However, keep in mind that just because I like a flavor that does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I don’t like a flavor this does not mean that you will not like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Tropical Rainbow Blast

There’s a medley of fruit flavors that I’m tasting here. I taste blueberry for sure along with pineapple and maybe mango? It’s hard to say because the fruit flavors all hit your taste buds at the same time. The sweetness of blueberry and slightly sour taste of pineapple is most noticeable and a good tasting combination.

Watermelon Bubblegum

Right away from the inhale I can taste the watermelon and bubble gum flavor but there’s something else going on here too, like a light mint. The watermelon portion of the flavor is overpowered by the bubble gum so this tastes like a watermelon bubble gum that has been chewed for a bit and lost some of the fruit flavor. In my opinion, a stronger watermelon flavor would make this better.

Sour Apple Peach

Like watermelon bubblegum, the apple and peach fruit flavors are subtle. The sour component of this vape is what you taste the most. It’s hard to single out the individual flavors so what I taste is a mix of fruity notes all jumbled together. This flavor tastes good but it’s not sugary or too sweet which makes it perfect for sweet-sensitive disposable vapers.

Cool Mint

What was surprising to me is that this mint flavor is one of the sweetest flavors that I tried. It brings a medium level of cooling, along with a sweet and smooth mint flavor that you wouldn’t expect. MOTI got the syrupy sweetness just right with Cool Mint, bringing a balanced sweet mint that will easily replace your pack of gum.

Blueberry Raspberry

Blueberries on the inhale and raspberries on the exhale. It’s simple but has an excellent flavor. This is the sweetest fruit flavor that I tried for the Play Bar, but even so it’s not sickly sweet and still less sweet than the majority of disposable flavors that I’ve tried from other brands. I’ve been absolutely vaping away on this flavor and once you try it, you’ll find it hard to put down too.

How do they vape?

MOTI Play Bar 7500 Disposables - 2

All of the Play Bar 7500 flavors that I’ve been using share one thing in common and that is that none of them are overly sweet. For some vapers this is going to be a downside, especially if you’re used to vaping on the very sweet flavors that most disposables offer. However, I enjoyed and appreciated vaping on flavors that taste good without blasting you with sweetness. It’s a pro for me that they taste good without being overwhelming.

These are going to be a MTL vape no matter how you set the airflow. With the airflow open the draw is still tight but it is what I would call a regular mouth to lung; not too loose and not too tight. The airflow dial is nice and firm so it will stay where you set it, allowing you to better tune the draw to your preference.

I mostly vaped with the airflow open but I would sometimes close it down a bit to tighten up the draw. Once you experiment with the airflow dial a bit you’ll be able to find what works for you.

The 5% nicotine strength is the only option available and boy does it hit the spot. Maybe a bit too well! Although the draw isn’t harsh (it’s actually very smooth) you can feel the 5% strength with each draw.

The mesh coil undoubtedly contributes to the stronger draw by producing more vapor and thus delivering more nicotine, so exercise caution (or better yet, get a lower strength disposable) if you aren’t already vaping on 50mg/ml vapes.

One full discharge cycle (from 100% to 0% battery) will use up 30% of the ejuice level, at least in my case it did. This was the same case for all of the flavors that I used so it seems to be the norm with the Play Bar 7500. That being said, I don’t think that I vaped anywhere near 2500 puffs (a third of the advertised puff count) so that’s concerning for the 7500 puff claim.

In reality, I think I vaped 1000-1500 puffs per charge cycle but without counting every single puff, I can’t say for certain. In the Play Bar’s defense, I do take long draws, so this could be a reason for the ejuice being used up more quickly. With that being said, expect to get more like 5000 puffs per device if you take long draws like me.
