The bottom line

The Argus P2 is a direct and clear upgrade over the Argus P1. It still has that futuristic, mechanical look that I loved about the original, but now with better features and more user-adjustability.

If you currently own the Argus P1 and are wondering if it’s worth upgrading, the answer is a definite yes. The Argus P2 brings a handy display, adjustable wattage, and better pods. It’s clearly the better device when compared to the P1.

If you don’t own the P1 but you’re looking for a new pod vape to use daily, the Argus P2 is certainly one to consider. If you’re a beginner vaper then you can use the user-friendly shift-modes to adjust the output wattage. If you’re a more-advanced user then you’ll like the precise adjustable wattage feature.

Have you used the Argus P2? Thinking of getting it? Have a question that I didn’t answer in this review? Leave a comment down.

The Argus P2 is the long-anticipated follow-up to Voopoo’s Argus P1 device which came out in late 2022.

The Argus P2, like any good second generation pod device, brings some much needed upgrades to the table like an OLED screen, adjustable wattage, and new pods that Voopoo says can last for 90ml of eliquid usage and which remain leak-free for 30 days. The battery has been upgraded from 800mAh to 1100mAh on the Argus P2, however there is no longer PD-fast-charging support – only ‘regular’ fast charging.

Some things have also remained more or less the same, like the size and shape of the device, the inclusion of an adjustable airflow slider, and great flavor and compatibility from the new Argus pods.

Design & Build Quality

  • VOOPOO Argus P2 - 17 Argus P1 vs Argus P2
Argus P1 (left) vs Argus P2 (right)

The Argus P2 maintains the same futuristic and smart design that the original Argus P1 brought to the table in late 2022. With the two devices side-by-side, it’s hard to tell them apart. But on closer inspection, I can see the subtle design changes that are present on the P2. If you liked the look of the Argus P1 then you’ll like the Argus P2 just as much.

The general shape, size, and design of the P2 have remained more or less unchanged from the original. It’s barely larger at 78mm tall, 48.5mm wide, and 17.5mm wide (the original Argus P1 is 74.5mm tall, 46.7mm wide, and 17.4mm deep). It’s still very small and easily carried. Voopoo even includes a nice little lanyard in the packaging so that you can wear it around your neck.

All of the sides and edges of the P2 are rounded and this adds to the comfort of holding and using it. The majority of the device feels really high-quality and the design looks the part too.

I say the majority of the device feels high-quality because there’s one element that I feel is a bit out of place – the button. It has a little bit of rattle to it and the round, threaded look just doesn’t match the rest of the design.

  • VOOPOO Argus P2 - 1

One half of the Argus P2 features a metal casing, while the other half is clear plastic. You can see the circuit board inside the device, as well as the screws. This is what really gives that futuristic look to the P2 and I think that it looks very raw and  mechanical.

Looking through the clear plastic and into the inside of the P2 is also where you find the small OLED screen and 5 RGB LED lights. I’ll talk more about these two features in the ‘Features’ section of this review but it’s nice to have an OLED screen, even if it is small and in black and white.

Through the clear casing, you can also see the connection that the button makes with the circuit board.

The metal casing has ‘ARGUS’ inlaid in gold, silver, or chroma lettering (depending on which color you choose). I think that all of the color options are very ‘smart’ and there’s an option for everyone no matter your preferences.

Those who prefer a neutral and more professional look can go for one of the four solid colors (black, titanium gray, ruby red, or emerald green), while those looking for a bit of flair to their device can go for the gradient violet purple or steel blue, or the solid crystal pink or pearl white.

Features

  • VOOPOO Argus P2 - 11

While the design of the Argus P2 remains very similar to the Argus P1, the features have received big upgrades. The main new feature on the P2 is the inclusion of three output modes, as well as adjustable wattage.

Output Modes & Adjustable Wattage

Out of the box, the Argus P2 will be in what Voopoo calls “Shift Mode”. This is a beginner-friendly wattage output mode that doesn’t allow you to select an exact wattage, but which makes it simple to adjust the power output for the vaping experience that you want. The three shift output modes are:

  • SPT: High wattage output for maximum flavor and warmth.
  • NOR (Normal): Normal mode sets the wattage to the optimal output for the pod that you are using for a balance of good flavor, warm vapor, and long coil life.
  • ECO: Reduced power and e-liquid consumption for maximum usage times out of both your ejuice and battery.
  • You can change the shift output mode by pressing the button three times to cycle between the three modes.

In addition to these three shift modes, the Argus P2 also offers true adjustable wattage from 5-30W. You can change to this power mode by pressing the button five times to enter the menu and then selecting the second option, “Power Mode”.

In power mode, you can change the wattage to whatever you like (although the maximum wattage is limited by the resistance of the pod that you are using). Changing the wattage is done the same way as you change between the different shift modes; press the power button three times and the wattage will start blinking. From here, press or hold the power button to cycle through the wattage range.

The 0.4Ω pod defaults to 23W when inserted, but can be set up to 30W. The 0.7Ω pod defaults to 16W when inserted but can be set at up to 18W. I’m guessing that these defaults are also what the wattage is set to when you use the P2 in ‘Normal mode’ because the draw feels nearly identical.

RBG LED Lighting

VOOPOO Argus P2 - 13

Another new feature on the P2 is the inclusion of RGB LED lights. These light up sequentially when you draw, which is similar to the Argus P1, but these lights now light up in a rainbow of colors instead of just white. If that doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, don’t navigate away from this review just yet; the LED’s can be switched to white-only or turned off entirely.

By default, the Argus P2 has RGB LED lighting active. These LEDs will light up sequentially when you press the power button or take a draw. However, by holding the power button down, you can cycle between the three LED modes:

  • M1 Mode: RGB LEDs on and screen on.
  • M2 Mode: White LEDs on and screen off.
  • LED OFF Mode: Lights off and screen on.

In M2 mode, the Argus P2 functions a lot like the Argus P1. The screen remains turned off when you draw and the 5 LEDs serve to indicate your battery life, with each one representing 20% battery life. You can turn the screen on to change wattage or wattage modes, or to view your battery percentage, by pressing the power button though.

Adjustable Airflow

  • VOOPOO Argus P2 - 7

The airflow slider on the Argus P2 is, in my opinion, an improvement over the Argus P1. It offers a much better range of adjustment and more precise adjustment as well.

The slider consists of 3 small airflow slots which can be left fully open, or closed off one by one by sliding the airflow slider upwards. Unlike the Argus P1, which didn’t really allow for RDL, the Argus P2 can be used for RDL to MTL by adjusting the airflow slider.

Other Specs and Features

The display on the Argus P2 is nothing special and it’s rather small but it displays all of the information that you could need to know about the device. The black and white screen displays your battery life as a percentage, your wattage or output mode, your pod resistance, and a puff counter.

Although there is a button on the device, this button is not used for vaping and is instead only there for adjustments. The Argus P2 is draw-activated-only.

Pods

VOOPOO Argus P2 - 15

The Argus P2, like the new Argus G2 that I reviewed last week, uses new Argus ‘Top-Fill’ pods. These pods have a 2ml capacity, although there are 3ml capacity pods available to be purchased separately.

These pods are compatible with older ARGUS pod devices and older ARGUS pods will also work with the Argus P2.

One change that I’m not too fond of is the tinting of these new pods. The original Argus pods were nearly clear but these pods are tinted quite darkly. This makes it difficult to see inside of the pod without a light source and it’s overall a step backwards in terms of ease-of-use.

VOOPOO’s other Argus pods filled from the front, but these new top fill pods fill from the side. Now, you might be thinking “That isn’t top fill if it’s on the side!” and you would be right; kind of. While it’s a bit confusing, these pods sit in the P2 with the fill port exposed; they’re top fill in the sense that they aren’t hidden when the pod is inserted.

VOOPOO Argus P2 - 16

Two pods come with the Argus P2: a 0.4Ω cartridge and a 0.7Ω cartridge. These are both of the new top fill cartridges and as of the time of writing this review there aren’t any other new pods available.

You’ll notice that both of these pods are relatively low resistance, so this means that the Argus P2 isn’t going to work great with high-strength nicotine salt ejuices, at least not right out of the box.

You could always grab a pack of older, high-resistance ARGUS pods to use but then you would be losing out on the improved flavor and leak resistance of these new pods. I recommend using low-mid strength nic salts (<30mg) with the 0.7Ω cartridge and low strength nic salts (<10mg) or freebase nicotine ejuices with the 0.4Ω cartridge.

VOOPOO says that these new pods offer leak resistance for 30 days, as well as a lifespan of 90ml of e-liquid usage.

Battery Life & Charging

VOOPOO Argus P2 - 9

The Argus P2 brings a 300mAh increase in battery capacity over the original Argus P1 – from 800mAh to 1100mAh. Voopoo says that the battery will last for three days of usage on a single charge but that’s probably for those who don’t vape too heavily. Going between the two pods, I drained the battery in around 300 puffs on average (about two days of use).

Charging speed is listed as 2A and the Argus P2 uses Type-C charging. The port is located on the bottom of the device. Although there’s no longer PD-fast-charging support, the Argus P2 doesn’t seem to need it because it charges from dead to full in only 35 minutes. This is very fast compared to most other pod devices on the market so the lack of PD-fast-charging isn’t a huge loss.

Performance

VOOPOO Argus P2 - 10

I recently reviewed the Argus G2, a device from Voopoo which also uses the same pods as the Argus P2. That being said, the performance is nearly identical. You can vape RDL (restricted direct-lung) with the airflow open, but you can also go to a tight MTL draw by closing the airflow down. An in-between loose MTL and medium MTL are also achievable just by using the right pod and setting the airflow midway.

You’ll notice that both of the included pods are pretty low resistance. Because of this, high-strength nicotine salt ejuices aren’t going to vape the best with these pods. The highest nicotine strength that I tried with the 0.7Ω pod is 30mg/ml and that felt a bit too strong, even on the ‘normal’ shift mode.

The best experience that I got with these pods was a 20mg/ml nicotine salt ejuice with the 0.7Ω pod, and a 10mg/ml nicotine salt ejuice with the 0.4Ω pod. All of the ejuices that I used were a 50/50 blend of VG/PG.

Voopoo claims that these pods remain leak-resistant for 30 days and continue to deliver good flavor for 90ml of ejuice. Well, I’ve been using these pods for over a month now and I haven’t had either of them leak any ejuice. The flavor has also remained strong and at this point I’m up to 60ml+ of ejuice through each pod. I haven’t quite reached the 90ml mark yet, but for these pods to last for 60ml+ of ejuice and not taste burnt or muted is very impressive.

Now, for the most important question of all; how is the flavor? Both pods deliver flavor that is just as good as other top pod vapes that I’ve tried. I get a lot of depth from the flavor of my ejuices and I taste all the subtle flavors that my ejuices have to offer. They’re really great pods overall.

Verdict
