The bottom line

Yami Vapor is unexpectedly one of my new favorite e-juice brands. I had tried their e-juices before, but I never took the time to test multiple flavors and properly measure their performance. Now that I have, I donโ€™t have any bad things to say. My thoughts are overwhelmingly positive, and Iโ€™m only disappointed that I didnโ€™t do this review sooner.

Both their freebase and nicotine salt e-juices deliver a one-of-a-kind experience. Their more interesting flavors, like Butter Brew and Taruto, might not be for everyone, but even if you donโ€™t think they sound like your cup of tea, you might be surprised at how good they taste. Even the more โ€œstandardโ€ flavors, like Juusu, taste natural rather than artificial or overly sweet, which makes them better than many e-juices out there.

Yami Vapor gets 5/5 stars from me, but what do you think? Have you used Yami Vaporโ€™s e-juices? Leave me a comment with your thoughts below!

Product Overview

Yami Vapor has been around for a while. Itโ€™s one of the first companies that I recommend when someone asks for a good e-juice brand, and Iโ€™m sure many of you would agree; Yami Vapor makes some good e-juices.

But what is it about their offerings that makes them so loved by vapers everywhere? The unique flavor blends, consistent taste from bottle to bottle, and how easy they are on coils are definitely compelling reasons. But these e-juices arenโ€™t for everyone, and Iโ€™ll tell you why.

In this review, Iโ€™m going to go over four flavors from Yami Vapor: two in freebase and two in nicotine salts. Iโ€™ll go over how they taste, how harsh they are on coils, and how satisfying they are to vape.

About Yami Vapor

While Yami Vapor might give the impression that they are a Japanese company (their blog is even named โ€œThe Tokyo Typewriterโ€), they are an American e-juice brand. They are headquartered in Irvine, California, and their e-juices are made and bottled there, too.ย

Still, the brand theme and some of their flavors are definitely Japanese-inspired. Take Juusu, a term for any non-alcoholic beverage in Japan, and an apple, peach, and lychee flavor by Yami Vapor. They also have Gorudo, a Japanese sweet potato flavor by Yami, which means “gold” in Japanese.

Last but not least, Taruto, their most popular flavor, is a word strongly associated with a regional specialty from Matsuyama, where it refers to a soft, rolled cake filled with yuzu-flavored sweet bean paste.

All this is to say that if you like Japanese culture and Japanese-inspired flavors, Yami is a brand to try. But even if you donโ€™t, they have a few fruit-centric flavors that might catch your eye.

Yami Vapor: What to Expect

As I mentioned above, Yamiโ€™s e-juices are culturally inspired, so they won’t be for everyone. If you like plain olโ€™ fruit flavors, these might not be the e-juices for you, but if youโ€™re a little adventurous and looking for something new, thereโ€™s definitely going to be a flavor that you havenโ€™t tried before.

Overall, Yami offers seven different flavors, but only three of these are available in nic salt form. These flavors are:

  • Taruto
  • Butter Brew
  • Milkgat
  • Juusu
  • Icy Trio
  • Shaka
  • Gorudo

Of these flavors, only Taruto, Juusu, and Icy Trio are available as a nicotine salt e-juice.

All of Yami Vaporโ€™s freebase e-juices come in 100ml bottles, are a 70VG/30PG blend, and are available in 0mg, 3mg, and 6mg nicotine strengths. Their nicotine salt e-juices come in 30ml bottles, are a 50/50 blend, and are available in 35mg or 50mg nicotine strengths.

How do the flavors taste?

For this review, Iโ€™ve been testing four different flavors: Juusu and Butter Brew in 3mg freebase, and Icy Trio and Taruto in 35mg and 50mg nicotine salt strengths, respectively.ย

As for devices, I used the VOOPOO ARGUS G4 Mini and VAPORESSO XROS 5 NANO to vape the nicotine salt e-juices, and the VOOPOO DRAG H40 Pro for the freebase e-juices. I chose to use two different pod vapes just to get an idea of how two of the largest and most popular vaping brands deliver the flavor of these e-juices.

Iโ€™m going to describe how they taste to me and what I think of them. However, keep in mind that just because I like a flavor does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I donโ€™t like a flavor, this does not mean that you will not like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Taruto (50mg)

Yami Vapor Taruto E-juice 400x400

Yami Vapor describes this flavor as: Flaky and warm pastry crust, fresh out of the oven, filled with vanilla custard.

This is a Portuguese egg tart with vanilla custard flavor, and it tastes just so. I get a strong pastry flavor right from the beginning, with vanilla notes hitting my taste buds all throughout the inhale and exhale. Itโ€™s a really interesting pastry flavor; sweet and creamy, but heavy as well. Itโ€™s a very layered flavor, and I notice different notes from time to time, which makes it an interesting flavor to vape.

Icy Trio (35mg)

Yami Vapor Icy Trio E-juice 400x400

Yami Vapor describes this flavor as: Cool menthol combines with fresh strawberry, super ripe kiwi, and exotic lychee fruit flavorsย

The menthol component of this flavor is strong, forming the base of the whole thing. Strawberry is the next strongest flavor, with subtler notes of kiwi and even subtler lychee. Itโ€™s icy, but it takes a few puffs before it settles in your mouth and becomes very cool to inhale. For being the most โ€œstandardโ€ of Yamiโ€™s flavors, this is really well done and deserves a try.

Juusu (3mg)

Yami Vapor Juusu E-juice 400x400

Yami Vapor describes this flavor as: โ€ฆfilled with the essence of crisp fruity apples blended with sweet juicy peach and finished off with exotic lychee

Apple is one of my favorite flavors, and this blend of peach and lychee along with it is insanely good. The apple flavor is natural, crisp, and juicy, and itโ€™s the star of the flavor. Itโ€™s just the right level of sweet, and doesnโ€™t taste artificial or overly sugary. Itโ€™s like what biting into a real apple tastes like, just with a bit of peach and lychee mixed in, too. This is a flavor that keeps me puffing just to taste the flavor again; itโ€™s really that good.

Butter Brew (3mg)

Yami Vapor Butter Brew E-juice 400x400

Yami Vapor describes this flavor as: โ€ฆbutterscotch flavored e-liquidโ€ฆ sweet brown sugar, rich butter, and decadent vanilla

I didnโ€™t expect to like this flavor as much as I did, but itโ€™s actually so good. The butterscotch flavor is so accurate. The vanilla flavor takes it up a notch as well, elevating this flavor from good to amazing. Itโ€™s a really smooth vape, and like Juusu, I keep going back for more.

How do they vape?

I didnโ€™t find any of Yami Vaporโ€™s e-juices particularly sweet, which is usually a good sign for coil life.

After going through 30ml of Juusu, 30ml of Taruto, and 15ml of both Butter Brew and Icy Trio, mainly using my VAPORESSO XROS 5 Nano, the pods arenโ€™t overly gunked up or dirty. Thatโ€™s definitely a testament to the quality of the pods, but it also has a lot to do with the quality of Yamiโ€™s e-juices. These clearly arenโ€™t too heavy on the sweetener, but still taste great.

I also like how smooth these are. The throat hit is there for sure, especially with the nic salts, but the flavors arenโ€™t harsh at all. Theyโ€™re also quite satisfying, even in the lower-nicotine-strength freebase versions.

All the flavors I tried feel like they would make a good main all-day vape flavor. I feel I could choose any of the four flavors I tried and be content vaping it as my only flavor for the foreseeable future. Thatโ€™s not a sentiment that I get often with e-juices, as I tend to be pretty particular, but thereโ€™s just something about these flavors that hits the spot.

Verdict

Yami Vapor is unexpectedly one of my new favorite e-juice brands. I had tried their e-juices before, but I never took the time to test multiple flavors and properly measure their performance. Now that I have, I donโ€™t have any bad things to say. My thoughts are overwhelmingly positive, and Iโ€™m only disappointed that I didnโ€™t do this review sooner.
