What is THCA?

You may have heard of THC, CBD, Delta 8, and Delta 9, but what exactly is THCa, and how does it differ from other cannabinoids?

THCa (Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a cannabinoid found in the flowers of cannabis plants. When ingested, THCa can help ease pain and alleviate nausea, but it does not produce a high. However, when THCa is smoked or vaporized, it converts to THC, which creates a euphoric sensation.

Research has shown promising results regarding the effects of THCa. Animal studies have indicated that it has anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, and anti-seizure properties. Furthermore, one study revealed that THCa has neuroprotective effects, potentially safeguarding nerve cells from damage associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

You may be wondering, is THCa legal in the United States? Yes, thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, THCa is legal as long as it is hemp-derived and contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight.

Who is TribeTokes?

TribeTokes THCa Flower & Pre-Rolls

When you purchase THCa flower from TribeTokes, you can trust that you are getting premium indoor cannabis that is free from pesticides. Each batch contains only top-shelf THCa, and is lab tested, with lab results available for scanning directly on the packaging. It doesn’t get more transparent than that.

I received three packages of flower and three containers of pre-rolls, each of a different strain: Jealousy, Blue Dream, and Tropicana Cherry. Each package contains 25-28% THCa, 0.1% THC, 0.7-1.5% CBGA, and 0.1-0.3% of other cannabinoids. This results in a total cannabinoid content of 27.5-29.4% per package.

They offer flower sold in 3.5g packages for $45 each. However, you can find some deals on their website: if you buy two packages, you save $10, and if you purchase three packages, you save $20. Additionally, you can mix and match any combination of the three available strains.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they also offer their THCa products in a hassle-free pre-roll option. These come in two options: Mini (0.5g) and Regular (1.0g), with each container holding five pre-rolls. The Mini option is priced at $35 per pack, while the Regular option costs $55. Similar to the flower, purchasing two containers gets you $10 off, and buying three containers saves you $20. You can also mix and match any of the three strains when purchasing multiples.

Strains and Flavors

At the time of this review, TribeTokes only has three strains of its THCa flower and pre-rolls available. The three strains are:

• Blue Dream (Hybrid)
• Jealousy (Indica)
• Tropicana Cherry (Sativa)

I’ll go over the cannabinoid composition of each strain, the flavor, and the effects the strains had on me.  

Blue Dream (Hybrid)

Blue Dream is a hybrid strain created from a cross between Blueberry and Haze. It has a total cannabinoid content of 29.4%, which includes 28.4% THCa, 0.15% THC, 0.7% CBGa, and 0.2% other cannabinoids.

When I draw from this strain, I get a predominantly herbal flavor profile with a hint of sweetness. There is also a subtle blueberry note that balances the overall taste. This strain is an excellent choice for those who prefer a flavor profile that is neither overly earthy nor overly sweet but rather something in between.

The effects of Blue Dream are quite potent. After each session, I found myself feeling immediately more relaxed while also experiencing a sense of happiness and upliftment. This strain is perfect for unwinding, combating the blues, and managing stress.

Jealousy (Indica)

Jealousy is a hybrid strain created by crossing Sherbet BX1 and Gelato 41. It has a cannabinoid profile consisting of 26.8% THCa, 0.1% THC, 1.5% CBGa, and 0.1% of other cannabinoids, totaling 28.5%.

This strain is perfect for those who prefer a more earthy flavor. Although the description on the website mentions creamy and fruity notes, I primarily detected an earthy taste with subtle hints of spice.

Jealousy certainly packs a punch. It left me feeling completely relaxed and unwound, making it ideal for de-stressing after a long day at work. If you have tasks to accomplish, it’s best to avoid this strain, as it may make you feel quite lethargic.

Tropicana Cherry (Sativa)

Tropicana Cherry is a sativa strain created by crossing Tropicana Cookies and Cherry Cookies. It has a cannabinoid profile of 25.8% THCa, 0.1% THC, 1.3% CBGa, and 0.3% other cannabinoids, for a total of 27.5%.

If you enjoy sweeter flower strains, Tropicana Cherry is perfect for you. With each draw, you’ll immediately taste the citrus flavor, while the cherry flavor takes a bit longer to arrive and lingers on your palate long after you exhale.

This strain is an excellent choice if you’re looking to be productive. It helped me stay focused and provided a boost to complete my chores. Because of its energizing effects, I wouldn’t recommend using it before bedtime. If you’re feeling fatigued, need stress relief, or are looking for motivation, Tropicana Cherry is the ideal strain for you.

Verdict

I have tried and tested a variety of TribeTokes products, including their THCa, CBD, and Delta 8 cartridges, as well as their Live Resin CBD Gummies. One thing remains consistent across all these products: they are top-shelf, high-quality options that produce effects true to their claims.

Currently, there are only three strains available. While I’m satisfied with this selection, I hope they expand in the future to offer even more varieties. At present, there is a sativa, an indica, and a hybrid option, so if you prefer one or the other, there’s an option.

I particularly enjoyed the pre-roll options, as they are convenient for on-the-go use and come in glass containers that protect and preserve the product. Although they are slightly more expensive than purchasing loose flower, they are an excellent choice for users who may not want to roll and who prefer the convenience of ready-to-go joints.
