Our Verdict

The Uwell Crown D has a sleek, compact and sophisticated design that effortlessly combines simplicity and a great user experience. The 1100mah battery lasts for a long time, and it recharges quickly too.

The side airflow control slider also allows you to precisely adjust the draw for either MTL, DL, or RDL vaping, so it’s a versatile device. The Crown D has one of the best draw-activated firing mechanisms that I’ve ever seen, so all you need to do is inhale on the mouthpiece to activate the device. This makes it easy to use, even for those who are new to vaping.

The 5 different power setting modes give you more options for how you want to vape, which is cool to see on a pod vape. The wattage adjustment wheel is a neat feature that I really liked, and it looks, feels, and works really well.

The Crown D PA pod and coils offer amazing flavor and a smooth vaping experience. The coils also last for a very long time, so price-conscious vapers will see the benefits of being able to use the same coil for longer.

The Uwell Crown D pod mod is compact and lightweight, making it a good choice for those who are looking for a portable and easy-to-use device for on-the-go vaping. Whether you’re taking your first step into vaping, or just looking for something new, I would gladly recommend this kit to vapers of all levels of experience.

Today I’ll be reviewing the Crown D Pod Kit from Uwell. The original Crown Pod Mod was released in 2020, however I have not used the original so I cannot compare the two directly.

The Crown D is a pocket-friendly kit that can be used for either Direct to Lung (DTL), Mouth to Lung (MTL) or Restricted Direct to Lung (RDL) vaping. It has an 1100mAh battery, a 0.96” display, and five different modes, so it’s quite the feature-filled device.

Most interestingly, the Crown D can fire at up to 35W and features a mechanical adjustment wheel on the bottom of the device. It’s a new and clever way to adjust the settings on a pod vape and it can be used to change the wattage output and the mode.

Design & Build Quality

  • Uwell Crown D Pod Vape Review - 1

The Crown D Pod Mod Kit comes in an elegant cardboard sleeve packaging. The front of the box has the name and logo, and the device is behind a clear panel in the outer sleeve which gives you an excellent view of the colour scheme purchased. The back of the box has all of the usual information like features, warnings, contents, company name/address/contact, QR code and a serial number. The sides of the box have more warnings, logos and all of Uwell’s social media contact information.

At first glance, the Crown D Pod Mod Kit has that classic pod vape look and feel to it. The front panel has a pleasant recessed firing button and a beautiful 0.96-inch TFT screen. The airflow control slider on the side of the device offers a seamless transition between DTL, RDTL and MTL.

On the bottom of the device, there is a mechanical scroll wheel which is used to set your wattage. This replaces the usual up and down buttons that you would find on typical pod vapes and, in addition to setting your wattage, it’s also used to control the menu system. The metal wattage wheel has knurling and has a very responsive clicking feel to it.

The pod assembly on the device is notched, which makes it easy to see your remaining ejuice level. The 3ml pod features a mouthpiece that is comfortable on the lips, and the pod is held into place by two relatively strong magnets. I accidentally dropped the Crown D onto carpet flooring from waist height and the pod stayed on the device.

To refill, all that you have to do is detach the mouthpiece from the pod and insert the e-liquid bottle nozzle into the red fill. The other hole on top of the pod is for air to escape during the refilling process, so don’t fill the pod with this hole!

Logos and branding are kept to a minimum with only ‘UWELL’ printed in black on the bottom rear side of the device. The only other annoying branding is the UWELL logo on the bottom portion of the screen, which takes up valuable space that could’ve been used for other purposes.

Pods

The Crown D Pod Mod Kit uses the Uwell PA coils. There are two coils options available: a FeCrAl Mesh 0.3Ω DTL coil rated for 25W- 35W, and a FeCrAl Mesh 0.8Ω for RDTL/MTL which is rated for 15W- 18W. Both are included in the kit. The Uwell PA coils are well made and it’s nice to see basic coil information printed onto the base of the coils. The coil installation is press fit, but you do need to pay attention to a flat edge on the coil which needs to align with the flat edge on the bottom of the pod.

The tank holds a good 3ml of ejuice. It’s clear, and features a snap-fit mouthpiece that lets you add more ejuice without taking the pod out of your device. Just take off the mouthpiece to reveal the red fill port and add your favorite e-liquid. The fill port fits all ejuice bottles from 30ml all the way to 120ml.

The side airflow control slider is a great feature and it’s really easy to use. Simply slide it up or down depending on your vaping preference for MTL, DTL or RDTL, all without having to remove the pod from the device. Uwell have put a lot of effort into this design and it shows. I would say it’s one of the best pods I’ve ever tried in a pod/mod kit and I’ve had quite a few.

How to use the Crown D

Uwell Crown D Pod Vape Review - Screen

The Crown D is really easy to use. It’s your standard five clicks of the button to turn it on or off. Two clicks on the button unlocks the wattage adjustment wheel. To adjust the wattage, simply turn the adjustment dial left or right, then long press the fire button to confirm.

Three clicks on the button puts you into the menu settings, allowing you to customize your settings and choose from one of various output modes. Once in the settings, simply rotate the wheel to cycle through the options and long press the fire button to confirm. The five different output modes are:

  • Wattage Power Mode: The device outputs at the specified wattage (wattage is automatically limited based on your coil resistance).
  • Voltage Power Mode: The device outputs at the specified voltage. (2.4 to 4.0 volts)
  • Curves: The setting will allow you to set a different power level for every 0.5 seconds as you vape.
  • Bypass: The device will output voltage based on the current battery level.
  • Customize: Variable Wattage but no limits. Can be set from 5 to 35 watts (also disables the draw activated firing).

I never used any output mode for a long period of time besides the power setting for my review, but for the experienced vapors who enjoy tinkering, then the other modes are available for you to try.

The settings option on the menu system has five options (rotate the wheel to cycle through the options, long press the fire button to confirm):

  • Puff Clear– Reset Puff Counter
  • Light – Adjust screen brightness
  • Color – Select color scheme (blue, red, yellow or green)
  • Factory Reset – Reset back to the factory default
  • Exit

Battery Life and Charging

Uwell Crown D Pod Vape Review - 9

The Crown D Pod Mod Kit has an enormous 1100mAh internal battery  in a small, lightweight package. It easily lasted me multiple days (3/4) on a full charge, but longer usage times are possible depending on your coil, wattage and frequency of use.

I managed to refill the pod three or four times before noticing the battery bar depleting and needing to recharge. I also didn’t notice any significant changes in the strength or quality of the vapor as the battery life was decreasing.

It takes around one hour to charge from empty to full. It does have pass-through charging too, enabling you to vape while plugged in. The USB-C port is on the bottom of the device, so the Crown D has to be placed on its side while charging.

Performance

Uwell Crown D Pod Vape Review - 8

In my experience, the 0.3Ω coil is best used with 0mg-6mg freebase nicotine eliquids. I used a 3mg freebase nicotine at 30W and this coil lasted me for 20ml of ejuice before having to be replaced.

The 0.8Ω coil is best used with 0mg-20mg strength ejuices. I used a 10mg salt nicotine ejuice at 15W and this coil lasted a little longer, around 25ml before having to be replaced.

These Uwell coils produce great vapor and great flavor; they definitely uphold the expectation of flavorful and awesome coils that I’ve come to know and love from Uwell. I didn’t experience any issues with wicking or dry hits with either coil included in this kit.

The wattage wheel adjustment is tight and solid, I didn’t have any issues with it changing the wattage settings inside my pocket. The automatic airflow sensor is one of the best that I’ve used. The sensor is highly responsive, whether the airflow control slider is slightly closed or fully open. Usually with pod vapes, the airflow sensor on a high wattage coil and fully open creates a bit of problem, but not so with the Uwell Crown D pod. The airflow control allows for a seamless transition between MTL, DTL and RDTL vaping for a true all around experience.

Best of all, after a few weeks of daily usage, not a single drop/leak anywhere from either coil, so far their claim of being leak-proof has held up. The airflow is smooth but the turbulence is detectable in a quiet surrounding, and one sided because of the airflow control being on only one side. This doesn’t bother me, but I just thought that I would mention it.

The longevity of the pods for the Crown D vaporizer will depend on a few factors, including how often you use the device, the type of e-liquid you are using, and how well you take care of the pods. In general, coils for the Crown D are designed to be long-lasting, but they will eventually need to be replaced. Some users have reported getting several weeks of use out of a single coil, while others may need to replace the coil more frequently.
