VOOPOO ARGUS P1s Review: Vast Flavor, Fast Charging

VOOPOO has designated the P1s as the “stick-shaped version of ARGUS P1”. It’s a slim pod vape that is certainly stick-shaped, that much is true. It also has the same see-through shell as the P1, so it definitely reminds me of the ARGUS P1. However, at the same time, it also looks and feels like a taller version of the Argus Pod. Seeing as all three devices belong to the ARGUS family of pod vapes, the similarities are to be expected.

If you’re familiar with the ARGUS G, the ARGUS P1s is roughly the same size. It’s a little taller at 112mm tall compared to the 110.9mm height of the ARGUS G, but otherwise it’s the same dimensions at 25.7mm wide and 13.5mm thick.

The slim size makes the ARGUS P1s super portable, even more so than the ARGUS P1. The tall and slim shape slides easily into a jeans pocket, or it can even be worn around your neck by taking advantage of the lanyard that you get in the box. It only weighs 43g, so it’s barely noticeable when worn.

All of the sides and corners are rounded and this gives the ARGUS P1s a nice and comfortable hand-feel. The general design is nice too; a clear shell adorns most of the ARGUS P1s. A thick metal band sits just below the pod, at the top of the device. The color of this metal band will vary depending on the color of the device that you get.

There are eight colors available and all of them look fantastic. There are two main color series: Creed and Cyber. The Creed version has a neat cyber-fantasy themed panel underneath the clear shell, while the Cyber version is a bit more professional in appearance with a panel which features a series of neat diagonal lines.

The decorative panel underneath the clear shell is holographic so it looks fancy when held in the sun. Both the clear shell and metal band are wear resistant and are still looking as good as new; you don’t have to worry about this device looking old too quickly.

A small, 1 inch portion of the clear shell does not have the decorative panel underneath. This allows you to peak into the insides of the P1s, revealing the circuit board and an LED battery indicator with color-shifting lights.

The bottom of the ARGUS P1s is where you’ll find the Type-C charging port.

Pods

The ARGUS P1s is designed to be user-friendly and that design-principle applies to the pods too. The P1s comes with new, upgraded ARGUS Pod Cartridges that are equipped with “VOOPOO’s ICOSM Flavor Interpretation Code”; say that one three times fast!

Jokes aside, this ICOSM tech prevents leaking, inhibits bacterial growth, provides smoother airflow, and enhances flavor. All of these are things that greatly improve user experience. You may be wondering how these pods accomplish all of this, so I’ll tell you what I know.

Firstly, the cotton used in the coils is fluffier according to VOOPOO, and the heating wire inside precisely controls the temperature when you’re vaping. Together, this avoids burning and doubles coil lifespan and improved flavor; VOOPOO says that these pods can last for 23 days.

When it comes to leaking, it’s the bane of every vaper’s existence. These pods feature a capsule structure in the base of the pod to control condensation and prevent leaking. How well does it work? Well over the last few weeks that I’ve been using the P1s, I have not experienced any leaking from either pod, so I would say pretty well!

To prevent any nasty bacteria from growing on the pod, there’s a silver ion coating on the cartridge, which is an antibacterial material. 

Normally, with most pod vapes this isn’t an issue as you’re going to be changing pods at least once a week. However, where the P1s pods are meant to last for nearly three weeks, an anti-bacterial coating is nice, if not downright necessary.

Finally, there are four air inlets on the bottom of the pod which help to smooth out airflow and evenly hit the coil for a smoother draw.

All devices in the ARGUS Pod family are compatible with these new upgraded pods. Compatible devices include the ARGUS Z, ARGUS POD, ARGUS POD SE, ARGUS G, and ARGUS P1. The ARGUS P1s is also compatible with pods from these other ARGUS devices.

The P1s comes with two pods: a 0.7Ω ARGUS Pod Cartridge and a 1.2Ω ARGUS Pod Cartridge. There are also 1.0Ω and 0.5Ω cartridges sold separately.

The P1s pods hold up to 2ml of ejuice. They’re filled through a port on the side of the pod, however this portion of the pod sits inside of the device so you have to remove the pod to fill. The fill port hole is large so it’s easy to fill with all sizes of ejuice bottles. The rubber plug also securely closes the fill port to prevent leaking.

The pods are tinted a little but I’ve had no trouble checking on my ejuice level. The pod contents also remain completely visible with the pod inserted so you don’t have to remove the pod to check.

The pod uses a strong magnetic connection to attach to the device and once it’s in it sits solidly and firmly without any chance of falling out accidentally.

Features

The ARGUS P1s caters to beginner vapers as it is simple to operate and does not feature any settings that you have to worry about adjusting. The airflow is fixed to a MTL draw (or a slightly tighter MTL draw depending on which pod you use) and the P1s automatically adjusts the wattage for you from 5-25W.

The P1s is purely draw-activated so all you have to do is draw on the mouthpiece to vape. The P1s takes care of the rest. It’s as simple as a pod vape gets but it still offers a bunch of features hidden under the surface that work automatically to provide a good vaping experience.

I mentioned the ICOSM flavor tech earlier so I won’t go into detail about that again (see the pod section above). In addition to this, the P1s also features an 800mAh battery that recharges in only 20 minutes thanks to 2A fast Type-C charging.

In my experience, the ARGUS P1s lasts for two days of steady vaping on a full charge, so about average. But being able to recharge it in under half an hour is awesome and basically means that there’s little to no downtime with this device.

The three LEDs that sit under the clear shell are really cool. They shift colors as you draw and the number of LEDs that light up indicate your battery level:

• 3 LEDs: 60%-100%
• 2 LEDs: 30%-60%
• 1 LED: 0-30%

Performance

I tested the ARGUS P1s with both of the included pods, a 0.7Ω ARGUS Pod Cartridge and a 1.2Ω ARGUS Pod Cartridge. I used 25mg/ml nicotine salt ejuice with both pods, one in 60VG and the other a 50/50.

The most impressive quality of both pods is that they have been completely leak proof, even after multiple refills and weeks of usage. Under the pod has remained completely dry and free of even condensation, and the pods themselves have not released any ejuice at all. A lot of pod vapes claim to be leak proof but the ARGUS P1s actually lives up to this claim.

The flavor from one pod to another isn’t very different but they both put out a lot of it. The main difference between these two pods is the draw; the 0.7Ω pod is a bit looser while the 1.2Ω pod is a little tighter. Both are MTL draws but just slightly different with the amount of airflow that they provide.

The airflow and draw are also very smooth. There’s no turbulence or rough airflow and that’s one of the contributing factors to the good flavor. The draw activated firing works like a charm and doesn’t require a lot of effort to get this vape going.

Last but not least, pod life is excellent. VOOPOO claims that these pods can last for 23 days, although I’m not sure how many refills that entails. In my personal experience, both of these pods have lasted for over two weeks of use and I’ve refilled each of them 7 times. That’s 14ml of ejuice per pod and I have not experienced any degradation in the draw or the flavor.

Verdict

The ARGUS P1s is a simple, yet incredible, little pod vape. It’s a great beginner device due to how easy it is to operate but it still delivers in a bunch of areas that veteran and experienced vapers will appreciate.

Once you fill the pod, the ARGUS P1s takes care of the rest. It automatically adjusts the wattage to the optimal level for the pod that you’re using and the MTL draw from both of the included pods is just right for a looser MTL (0.7Ω pod) or a slightly tighter MTL draw (1.2Ω pod).

Flavor from both pods is excellent, as is the longevity. You can easily get two weeks of use out of each pod so you’ll save yourself some money on replacement pods compared to other devices. Additionally, these pods have shown themselves to be truly leak proof so you don’t have to worry about wasting your ejuice either. It’s a two for one money-saving combo.

On top of this, being able to vape for two days on a charge and then fully recharge the P1s in under half an hour means little downtime from vaping, even if this is your only device.

There are a lot of upsides and pros to this device and there aren’t many downsides. If you’re looking to purchase a new pod vape, I highly recommend picking up the ARGUS P1s.
