Our Verdict

The new Hellvape Helheim S30 RDTA is a particularly pleasant tank to use. It has a number of great features like the braided steel cable wicking, tank shield protecting the glass tube, the humongous 12ml tank capacity, dual honeycomb top/side airflow style and double bottom slotted airflow style.

It really has a lot of features that will please enthusiasts. The kit also includes a separate 510 pin for bottom feeding so you can use the S30 tank with your squonk mod

One thing to note about this tank is the size. The S30 has a 30mm diameter and holds 12ml of ejuice, so it’s pretty big and tall. You’ll want to make sure that your mod can accommodate an atomizer of this size, so you’ll likely want to use a large dual battery mod.

When it comes to the performance, the Helheim S30 provides an excellent DL and RDL experience. Being a dual coil high wattage tank, the S30 does drink juice though, but it’s a trade-off for the excellent flavor and large clouds.

Overall I’m really impressed by the Hellvape Helheim S30 RDTA. It truly is the best of both the RTA and RDA worlds.

I would gladly recommend this kit to any vaper looking for a dual coil RDTA that is easy to build on, and which produces intense flavor and large vapor production.

The Hellvape Helheim S30 RDTA tank is the older brother to the Helheim S RDTA, and both tanks were developed by the “FIVE” team, a group of German vaporists. Hellvape is well known for their RTA’s like the Dead Rabbit M RTA and Dead Rabbit V3 RTA, and also for their sub-ohm tanks like the Hellbeast 2.

The Hellvape Helheim S30 RDTA tank holds a massive 12ml of juice and the dual top adjustable airflow can be used for either DL or RDL vaping. The huge postless deck is made for large dual coils and is optimized for better flavor and big clouds.

This tank uses 6 intertwined, braided metal cables for the transfer of the eliquid to the coils. My first impressions of this atomizer are its immense size and capacity, but I’m also intrigued by the metal cage protecting the glass, like armour or a shield.

Box Contents

  • 1 x Tank Helheim S30 RDTA
  • 2 x Coil Ni80 of 0.42Ω
  • 6 x Spare Braided Steel Cables
  • 1 x Squonk Pin for BF
  • 1 x Tool for coils cutting
  • 1 x Spare Parts
  • 1 x User Manual

Included in the kit is a simple tool that allows you to cut the excess legs of the coils to the required size before inserting the coils on the deck. The 6 braided steel cables used for wicking can also be replaced, and I like the fact that they include 6 spare cables in the package. Essentially, everything you’ll need to get started building is included inside the kit, minus wire cutters and cotton.

Design & Build Quality

  • Hellvape Helheim S30 - 1

The Hellvape Helheim S30 RDTA has a Φ30mm diameter and is made from solid stainless steel, giving it a considerable amount of weight and heft. It’s also very tall due to the huge 12ml tank capacity. A great design feature is the stainless steel grille surrounding the glass tube, which is a great way to protect the glass from breakage.

The metal grille protects the glass tank while still offering excellent visuals for the remaining liquid level. You can also see the 6 twisted stainless steel cables that transfer the eliquid to the coils through the wonders of capillary action.  Right above the glass we have the RDA portion of the Helheim S30, defined by the double airflow control system and a rather big 810 style drip tip.

The Helheim S30 has a simple and refined look which truly impressed me. The overall branding and logos are kept to a subtle minimum, the only branding or logo visible on the tank is the laser engraving of the Helheim name right under the drip tip. The top cap is well finished with laser engravings of the Helheim logo.

Hellvape Helheim S30 - 6 Exploded view showing components

Every single component in the Hellvape Helheim S30 RDTA can easily be separated into individual pieces for easy deep cleaning. From the drip tip, to the honeycomb airflow ring and the slotted airflow ring, they can all be easily removed. The first time you pull and try to separate the individual parts it might be a little tough, but it becomes much easier after doing it the first time.

The ejuice capacity is a tremendous 12ml and this lasted me several days before needing to be refilled. To access the fill ports, simply pull and remove the top cap and the knurled bottom airflow control ring.

The two holes are rather large and round making them easy to use for my 120ml eliquid bottle. When closed, two metal pins on the inside of the top cap slip right into the filling holes, preventing the liquid from escaping when in use. Moreover these two pins act with the purpose of interlocking the parts and locking the rotation of the top cap.

How to Build on the Helheim S30 RDTA

Hellvape Helheim S30 - 7 Build Deck

The Hellvape Helheim S30 RDTA features an elegant and simple postless dual coil build deck. A quarter turn of the top cap removes it and reveals the RDA section. It’s also where the double honeycomb designed AFC adjustment rings are located.

The top AFC ring has a honeycomb design and directs airflow on the top of the coils and to the sides. The second AFC ring is a double slotted with knurling to improve the grip between your fingers, and directs the airflow directly below and the sides of the coils.

The multitudes of airflow adjustments will be sure to please the tinkerer and those that love having a myriad of possibilities to make the airflow just perfect.

Installing coils on this dual coil deck is as simple as pre cutting the coils with the provided tool. Next, loosen the post screws on the build deck, insert the coil legs in the appropriate openings on the deck, and tighten the screws on the posts. Make sure to pulse and rake the coils to get rid of any hot spots, and then slide your cotton through the coils. Lastly, prime the cotton with ejuice and fill up the tank.

Reassemble all the components back together by inserting and pushing the top portions containing both AFC and drip tip onto the build deck, and you’re ready to enjoy the Hellvape Helheim S30 RDTA.

Through the science of capillary action, the eliquid in the tank will be transported by the steel wire wicks and fed to the cotton up above. The steel wire wicks stick out a bit in the port where it touches the cotton, which is perfect for wicking. Make sure that the ends of your cotton wicks are able to be placed right on top of the steel wire wicks for best performance.

I recommend not messing around too much with the delicate steel wire wicks, as they seem to separate and come apart easily.

For those who like to squonk, a second 510 pin is included in the kit which enables bottom feeding for squonk type mods.

Performance

Hellvape Helheim S30 - 2 Steel Wicking Wires

I used both of the 0.42Ω Ni80 coils included in the kit for my testing. With both coils installed, the resistance on my mod was 0.23Ω.

I also used the included tool for cutting the legs of the coil, which I cut at 4mm. The Hellvape Helheim S30 RDTA has great vapor and taste when built right. On my first build I used way too much cotton, which was choking the coil and not allowing it to wick fast enough for my personal liking.

On my second try at wicking, I used less cotton inside the coils and the flavor and taste really shined through. For optimal flavor, make sure that the ends of the cotton are well inserted and fully contacting the steel wire wicks.

I found the S30 to be most enjoyable at 60-70 watts with both AFC rings just ever so slightly closed to enhance the taste. This configuration also provides a nice and warm vape. The airflow is turbulent but not that loud, although some noise is to be expected with both AFC rings fully open.

I prefer the convenience of using the S30 as an RDTA, but I did use it strictly as an RDA for a bit and found it easy enough. Just a simple quarter turn on the top cap exposes the coils, enabling you to drip to your heart’s content. I can say that whichever way you prefer, this RDTA has it all — it truly is the best of both worlds.

It brings you the advantages of an RDA by having your taste buds as close as possible to the deck for a shorter transfer of flavor, and also the advantage of an RTA by having a huge 12ml tank at your disposal.
