The bottom line
The VMATE i2 is a clear and welcome upgrade over the VMATE Infinity. It’s still portable, light, and attractive, and the larger battery capacity makes a recognizable difference to the amount of time that you can vape with it. A 1500mAh battery in a device this small and light is great to have if you’re looking for a portable device that doesn’t sacrifice usage time.
The VMATE i2 is also still incredibly easy to use. Beginner vapers will love the hassle-free operation. There are no buttons, no wattage to adjust, and no screen or UI to complicate things. It’s as easy to use as popping in a pod, filling it up, and drawing on the mouthpiece to vape.
I even like the RGB light bar which serves as the battery life indicator. It’s not as clear as a traditional display but it does the job of giving a rough idea as to where the battery life is at.
The new 3X Upgraded Pods are also a major upgrade over the VMATE Infinity. The 0.7Ω pod that comes with the VMATE i2 does an amazing job of being long-lasting and delivering a lot of flavor for MTL vapers. The airflow range is great too thanks to the airflow adjustment slider, so you can get a loose MTL draw or a tight MTL draw depending on what you prefer.
For MTL vapers and/or beginner vapers, the VMATE i2 is highly recommended.

If you’re familiar with VOOPOO’s VMATE pod devices then the new VMATE i2 might look familiar. It joins the VMATE MAX, VMATE PRO, VMATE E, and VMATE Infinity Edition. If you don’t look too closely, you might think that this is one of the latter two previously released devices.
While the VMATE i2 looks a lot like its siblings, it’s actually an improved and upgraded version of the VMATE Infinity Edition (this new device is the VMATE Infinity 2). Some of these improvements include a large 1500mAh battery and the inclusion of VOOPOO’s new “3X Upgraded” Top Fill cartridge which is said by VOOPOO to provide long-lasting pure taste, a 90-day coil lifespan, and 30 days of leak-free use.
Other notable features of the VMATE i2 are its compatibility with the older VMATE V2 Cartridges and its neat RGB light bar.

Design & Build Quality
VOOPOO’s VMATE series of pod devices all have a distinctive look to them which makes it easy to see one and say “That’s a VMATE device!”. The VMATE i2 keeps with this design and it’s nearly indistinguishable from the VMATE PRO and VMATE Infinity Edition, save for a few small differences.
It’s similar in size to its predecessors with the same 28.5mm width and 15mm depth as the VMATE Infinity but it’s just over 20mm taller at 113.7mm. This doesn’t make it too tall though and I think that it makes the VMATE i2 look more ‘natural’ when compared to the ‘stubby’ appearance of older VMATE pod vapes.
The matte metallic finish looks great and comes in seven colors with two different patterns: Rosy, Ruby Red, Matte Black, Dawn Blue, Forest Green, Neon, and Space Grey. The first three colors come in a circular pattern while the last four colors come in a “V” pattern of lines. The colors are nice and both patterns look good on the i2 but my personal favorites are the Forest Green (which I’ve been using) and the Space Grey.
But the sleek look of the VMATE i2 does come with a downside, which is that it’s actually quite sleek and slippery. It has withstood a few drops already from my clumsy hands and it doesn’t seem any worse for wear, but I advise you to be careful when handling it or you will definitely drop it!
The pods are magnetic but need to be ‘clicked’ and pressure-fitted into the device for a secure fit. This pressure-fitting keeps the pods securely attached and makes it basically impossible for them to come out accidentally.
The pods have a 3ml capacity which is really nice to have as I haven’t been refilling as frequently as I would with a 2ml pod.
There’s an airflow control slider on the back of the i2 which can alter the airflow from mouth-to-lung down to an even tighter mouth-to-lung with the included 0.7Ω pod. If you purchase the 0.4Ω pod then you can also do RDL with this device.
The resistance of the slider makes it difficult to accidentally move it, but not too difficult to adjust it when you want to.
There’s no display on this device but as a stylish touch VOOPOO have added an RGB light bar on the side. The height of the light bar, or how ‘filled” it is, indicates your battery charge level. It’s a bit vague really but it gives you some idea of the battery charge and it looks nice too.
On the bottom there’s a silicone base and a Type-C charging port. That’s all that there is to the design of the i2. There’s no buttons (this is a draw-activated-only device) and no display. Like the VMATE Infinity, the i2 is a simple and stylish pod vape.
Features
The VMATE i2 is advertised by VOOPOO as being a ”Looong Life Starter Pod”. This long life is meant in two ways: battery life and pod life.
First off, the VMATE i2 has a 15000mAh battery which is a 67% increase over the 900mAh battery found in the VMATE Infinity. That’s a substantial increase in battery capacity and I’ve noticed the difference. Heavy vapers like myself will get three days from the VMATE i2 (which is amazing), and less frequent vapers can probably expect more like 4-5 days from a charge.
The i2 also comes with VOOPOO’s “3X Upgraded” cartridges which are the same as the ones that come with the new VMATE MAX. These cartridges, according to VOOPOO, “provide users with long-lasting pure taste, a 90-day coil lifespan and 30 days of leak-free use”.
Where the older VMATE cartridges, like the ones that come with the VMATE PRO and VMATE Infinity, require you to remove the pod to fill, these ones don’t. The fill port on the pod sits above the device battery so you can remove the bung and fill the pod while it’s still seated in the VMATE i2. A bit more convenient if I do say so!
But even with all of these changes, these new cartridges are still backwards compatible with older VMATE devices. The VMATE i2 is also compatible with older VMATE V2 cartridges if you want to try those out.
The VMATE i2 doesn’t have manual wattage adjustment. But as a beginner-friendly device it automatically adjusts the wattage output, up to 30W, according to the pod that is inserted into the device. This means that you don’t have to worry about accidentally setting the wattage incorrectly because the VMATE i2 takes care of all of that for you. Perfect for beginners!
Battery & Charging
The RGB light bar on the side of the VMATE i2 is not only pretty, it also indicates how charged the battery is. Although I would have preferred a small display with actual numbers, the RGB light bar at least gives you an idea of how charged the battery is, which is better than nothing.
RGB Light Bar & Charge Level
- Fully Lit: 75-100% Battery Charge
- ¾ Lit: 50-75% Battery Charge
- ½ Lit: 25-50% Battery Charge
- ¼ Lit: Below 25% Battery Charge
The VMATE i2 recharges with Type-C charging. Even though the battery capacity has been bumped up, the charging speed is the same 1A speed as the VMATE Infinity. This means that it takes over an hour and a half for a full charge, which isn’t great in my opinion. I would have liked to see 2A charging alongside the larger battery and it’s a shame that the charging speed wasn’t upgraded as well.
Performance
The VMATE i2 comes with a single 0.7Ω pod, which is one of VOOPOO’s new “3X Upgraded” cartridges. There’s also a 0.4Ω “3X Upgraded” cartridge available, as well as older 0.7Ω and 1.2Ω VMATE V2 cartridges.
I had one of the 0.4Ω cartridges on-hand for this review so I’ll go over my experience and the performance of the VMATE i2 with both of these pods. Unfortunately, I did not have any of the older cartridges to test.
I’ll begin with the 0.7Ω pod because this is the one that comes with the VMATE i2. This 3ml pod is really a star for MTL vaping. Whether a loose MTL or tight MTL draw is what you’re after, just adjust the airflow slider to your liking. I’m able to get a RDL draw too if I don’t close my lips too tightly around the pod but I think that RDL vaping is best done with the 0.4Ω pod and this pod does best for MTL vapers.
My 20mg/ml nicotine salt ejuices give me a nice throat hit, although I can confidently say that this pod would still do well with higher strengths too.
Like all of VOOPOO’s newer pods, this pod really delivers in the flavor department! I love how crisp the flavor is and how well it brings out the fruity notes in my ejuices.
The 0.4Ω pod is for all of you RDL vapers out there! It can also be used for MTL vaping too though. This pod is great and does put out good flavor too but I think that the 0.7Ω pod fits me better with the MTL draw, warmth, and throat hit for nicotine salts. Lower strength nic salts could be used with this 0.4Ω pod but it might be a bit strong even then. RDL vapers will probably want to use a low-mid strength freebase ejuice with this pod.
