VOZOL STAR 9000 Disposables Review

VOZOL has come a long way from their humble beginnings in 2019. Since the launch of their first disposable vapes, the VOZOL D1 and VOZOL D2, they’ve released dozens of new disposable vapes and even a few pod systems, like the Ark Pod.

VOZOL mainly manufactures disposable vapes now and currently offers seven main series of devices: GEAR, STAR, NEON, TIGO, JOYGO, SWITCH, and ALIEN.

One of their latest releases in 2023 is the VOZOL Star 9000 and it’s their most advanced and feature-filled disposable to date. It features a crisp display that tracks ejuice and battery charge levels which can be awakened by shaking the device. It also features a built-on silicone mouthpiece cap to keep out dust and lint.

The Star 9000 uses VOZOL’s exclusive “S.I.L.C technology”, which stands for Smooth, Identical, Long-Lasting, and Clean. VOZOL claims that this technology offers a smoother draw, an identical experience from puff-to-puff, long-lasting flavor, and clean vapor.

The Star 9000 offers up to 9000 puffs and comes filled with 14ml of ejuice and a 650mAh battery. It’s available in 0, 20, and 50mg/ml strengths and in 15 flavors in the USA.

These disposables were sent to me by VOZOL for the purpose of this review. However, this does not in any way affect my thoughts or opinions in this review.

Design & Build Quality

The VOZOL Star 9000’s are great looking disposable vapes. It seems like VOZOL made the design as much of a priority as the performance and didn’t just leave it to an afterthought. While it’s true that you can say that many disposables being released these days have a unique design, the Star 9000 is not just unique but beautiful, too.

While most other disposables sport a body color that corresponds to the flavor, the Star 9000 is a bit different. Each and every flavor comes in the same white, marble patterned, resin case. It’s subtle and hard to pick up on from a few feet away. But once you get close and hold the device in your hand you can see the beautiful and distinct marble appearance.

Comparing two different flavors side-by-side, you can notice that the marble pattern is different between them. It’s good to know that these aren’t all mass-produced from a single mold. Instead, each one features a unique marble pattern and that’s quite interesting.

The VOZOL Star 9000 is a medium-sized disposable. It’s not as small as some other disposables that I’ve used, even with similar puff counts and ejuice capacities. It’s still a portable size though and nowhere near the size of something like a single battery mod. Exact dimensions are 90mm x 42mm x 23mm and each one weighs 70g.

One of my favorite features is the integrated dust-cap. Each Star 9000 has a silicone dust cap that is anchored to the top of the device. It can easily be removed if you don’t want to use it, but the anchoring prevents it from getting lost. I swear that VOZOL read my mind with this feature because I was just discussing with my team member, Robert, about how I wish something like this existed. There have been many disposable with dust caps, but none that prevented it from getting lost like on the Star 9000.

Removing the dust cap is as simple as unhooking the silicone leash from the top of the device. Unfortunately for those who do want to use it, it comes off quite easily and I’ve found myself accidentally removing it many times. It’s still very useful but it would be better if it was a little more difficult to take off.

The dust cap comes in a color that matches the flavor of the device. The mouthpiece itself is also the same color but it is made of a semi-frosted, transparent plastic. The Star 9000 also features nice, holographic lettering that says the flavor name on the back of the device. The front features a large, holographic, and cursive VOZOL logo.

Features

The Star 9000 is a high-puff count disposable that will provide, you guessed it, up to 9000 puffs per device. There’s 14ml of ejuice inside of each one and a 650mAh battery. Charging is done through a Type-C port on the bottom of the device and takes only 45 minutes to go from 10% to 100% charged. A full charge will take around an hour.

The Star 9000 features an ejuice and battery level display that is a little different from other vapes with the same feature. First off, the display looks really nice and it’s very crisp. Secondly, you don’t have to draw on the device to check on your levels. Instead, you can shake the device to “wake” the screen and check where you’re at.

The shaking could be better tuned but it works. I find that for some of my devices they wake extremely easily, while for others it takes a lot of shaking force. It’s no fun to look like a maniac in public, shaking your vape around, so in most cases I would just draw on the device to check. It’s a cool feature but it could be better and more useful with a little bit of fine-tuning.

The ejuice and battery levels are individually shown, with a droplet icon next to the ejuice level and a battery icon next to the battery charge level. Levels are shown as percentages which decrease in 10% increments.

A full charge will use up 30% of the ejuice level, so you’ll get about three full charges and a bit out of each one. A charge lasts for multiple days of use and for thousands of puffs, making the Star 9000 a good value purchase for price-conscious vapers.

As of the time of writing this review there are 15 flavors available for the Star 9000 in the USA. These flavors mostly consist of fruits and there are no candy, tobacco, or dessert flavors available. The full list of available flavors is:

I’m going to describe how five of these flavors taste to me and what I think of them. However, keep in mind that just because I like a flavor that does not mean that you will like it. Similarly, if I don’t like a flavor this does not mean that you will not like it. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Watermelon Bubble Gum

This is the closest that you’ll get to a ‘candy’ flavor from VOZOL and it’s really, really tasty. This flavor doesn’t focus too much on the bubble gum notes but rather takes a subtle watermelon and adds a light bubble gum taste in with it. It’s a light flavor overall but leaves a lingering bubble gum taste that I really like.

Cool Mint

VOZOL’s cool mint offers light sweetness paired with light cooling for a laid-back mint flavor. Neither the sweetness nor the cooling is very strong so if you’re looking for a powerful, throat-chilling vape then this won’t be for you. However, for those who enjoy a bit of cooling here and there, this is a great flavor to take a few draws on.

Watermelon Ice

Like Cool Mint, this isn’t a flavor for hardcore menthol vapers looking for a blast of cooling. There’s cooling here, sure, but it’s very light. The watermelon flavor is much stronger and more bold than in VOZOL’s Watermelon Bubble Gum flavor, bringing out more clear and distinct watermelon notes that provide a natural taste. The level of sweetness here is mild and this makes it great for all day vaping.

Grape Ice

Similar to Watermelon Ice, there’s not a lot of cooling to this flavor. The grape flavor has a decent level of sweetness and ‘punch’ to it, though. It’s a slightly candied grape flavor, although you can taste the ‘natural’ grape flavor as well. I would liken this to taking a sip of real grape juice rather than artificial, sugar-laden grape juice. It’s a very good flavor if you like grape, even if you don’t like ice in your vapes.

Blueberry Storm

This has got to be VOZOL’s best flavor for the Star 9000, in my opinion at least. It’s sweet but not too much so, with slight perfume notes and flavors that come in secondarily to the strong, primary blueberry flavor. The flavor lingers on your tongue even after exhaling, prolonging the delicious blueberry taste. There’s no ice or cooling here whatsoever and that makes this the perfect pick for vapers who like blueberry or blue razz flavors but not menthol.

How do they vape?

VOZOL has been making disposable vapes for years now, so it didn’t come as any surprise to me that I found myself really enjoying the Star 9000 and the features that it has to offer. It’s just plain great and I can say that confidently and objectively. Here’s why.

The performance is just super. No matter which flavor I pick up to use, I get good flavor that tastes like what I expect from the flavor name. VOZOL did really well on crafting flavors that taste natural, while still offering enough sweetness that you want to vape on them. It’s not easy to create a good, balanced flavor (as I’ve learned from my experience with many disposable brands) but VOZOL hit the nail on the head with their flavor options.

The mouth to lung draw that these offer is also a quality that makes the disposables really great. It’s a tight mouth to lung draw, tighter than most other disposable vapes on the market. However, it still feels intuitive to activate the vape by inhaling and doesn’t require more effort than what I naturally use to draw.

These are available in a couple of different nicotine strengths: 0, 20, and 50mg/ml. I’ve been using the 50mg/ml versions for my review and they are really satisfying to vape on. Taking a few puffs is all I need to feel like I’ve gotten the satisfaction that I’m after, so they’re great if you’re a heavy smoker trying to transition to vaping. It’s nice to see lower strengths offered too, as this opens up the Star 9000 for use by moderate and even nicotine-free vapers.

Longevity has proved to be on par with VOZOL’s claim of 9000 puffs. It’s not easy keeping track of every single puff but I’ve gotten used to it by now after reviewing and testing so many different disposables. The Star 9000 will easily get you 9000 puffs if you don’t take long draws, but you can still expect 5000+ if you take 2-3 second puffs.

Verdict

All things considered, the Star 9000 is a very attractive disposable and the build quality easily places it among the nicest and best-built disposables of the year. The integrated dust-cap is really one of the best design features that I’ve seen on a disposable. The leash keeps the cap within reach and prevents it from getting lost, making it easy to replace it onto the mouthpiece before you put it into your bag, purse, or pocket.

I also like the fact that you don’t have to vape to check the ejuice and battery life levels. Shaking to awaken the display is really useful and it’s definitely not a feature that I’ve seen on any other disposables.

With that being said, the Star 9000 is not a ‘revolutionary’ new product, regardless of the shake display and individual ejuice and battery life indicators. But a disposable vape only needs a few key elements to be really good and VOZOL has managed to hit those marks with the Star 9000.

What key elements am I talking about? Flavor, draw, and satisfaction. These are the key points that make or break a disposable vape and the Star 9000 does a good job of delivering in all of these areas.

Even with the myriad of other disposable vapes available today, I can easily recommend the Star 9000 as a disposable that you should keep at the top of your “to-buy” list. It just delivers in all of the areas that count, while also offering some other features that firmly place it as one of the best disposable vapes out right now.
