Wotofo nexPOD Review: The Best Device with Pre Filled Pods?

 Wotofo is primarily known for their vape tanks like their Recurve V2 RDA and Profile series, but lately they’ve been dipping their toes into the world of disposables. Wotofo has released a number of disposables over the past year, including the Mini+, Airy, Mega, and Ultra disposables. Now, Wotofo has released a new product that they are dubbing as a “pod-based disposable” — the Wotofo nexPOD.

What exactly is a pod-based disposable? Well, it’s not as revolutionary of a concept as you may think. In the case of the nexPOD, it’s a rechargeable pod vape that uses pre-filled pods; not exactly groundbreaking new technology. But before you click off this review, the nexPOD does have a fair bit to offer that most other closed pod systems do not.

While many other closed pod systems like the JUUL have small 1-2ml capacity pods, the nexPOD has 8ml capacity pods which can each provide up to 3500 puffs. These pods also use nexMESH coils which are known for their flavor and great performance. In all, there are 18 flavors to choose from.

The nexPOD device itself is small but packs a 650mAh battery which is rechargeable with Type-C charging. It also features an airflow control slider which allows you to adjust the draw to your liking.

Is the Wotofo nexPOD the perfect compromise between disposables and pod vapes?

The nexPOD is available to be purchased either as the device alone with pre-filled pods sold separately, or as a kit that includes two nexPOD devices and one pod of each of the eighteen available flavors.

Pods are around $8.99 USD so the kit is a really good value. However, if cost is a factor then purchasing the device and individual pods may be the better option.

Design & Build Quality

The nexPOD is by all definitions a standard pod vape but the main difference between it and most other pod vapes that we’ve reviewed is that the nexPOD takes pods that come prefilled with ejuice. Other than this main difference, the nexPOD is what you would expect from a pod vape.

Even though it uses massive 8ml pre filled pods, the nexPOD device is still very compact. It’s 83.3mm tall, 42.4mm wide, and 23mm deep. It’s not much larger than other large capacity disposable vapes like the DRAGBAR B5000 or ELFBAR BC5000, so the convenience and portability there. 

The design is simple, under the radar, and sleek. There are no sharp corners and all of the sides are rounded which makes it have a comfortable hand feel. It has a satin paint finish that is nice but also a bit slippery. On the front of the nexPOD you’ll find NEXPOD printed in a large font, and small print stating that the mesh coil is by nexM technology. nexMESH is the same type of mesh that is used in the Wotofo nexMESH Pro tank.

There appears to be four colors available for the nexPOD: black, grey, blue, and pink. It doesn’t look like you get a choice of which color device you get if you purchase the complete kit and you’ll likely get two black devices.

On the bottom of the nexPOD there is a simple airflow control slider and a Type-C charging port. The airflow slider is firm and features a single medium-sized airflow slot. Regardless of how you set the airflow it’s a tight MTL draw, but you are able to make it anywhere from really tight to a ‘regular’ tight MTL.

At the top of the nexPOD is where you insert the pods. These pods are massive compared to other pods for other devices but the reason being is that they are filled with 8ml of ejuice. The pods are tall and round in shape, with the flavor printed prominently on the mouthpiece area. This makes it so that you can easily see what flavor you are vaping even when the pod is inserted into the device.

The pods are completely opaque and this makes it impossible to see how much ejuice is left inside of them. I would have liked this device better if the pods were clear as it would at least allow you to know where you’re at with your pod. 

The pod simply inserts into the top of the nexPOD and is held to the device magnetically. The magnetic connection is strong and holds the pod firmly in place. You can rotate the pod 360° while it’s inserted in order to hold and vape on the device in whatever way is most comfortable for you.

Features

The main feature of the nexPOD, of course, is that it is a pod vape that takes prefilled, disposable pods. These pods come filled with 8ml of ejuice in one of 18 flavors. They are also available in either 50mg or 20mg/ml nicotine strengths.

Another standout feature of the nexPOD is that the pods use Wotofo’s renowned nexMESH coil. nexMESH is known for its accurate flavor reproduction, efficient heating, smooth vapor, and longevity. 

The nexPOD also features adjustable airflow control, which can be done by moving the airflow slider on the base of the device. You can achieve anywhere from a tight MTL draw to a regular MTL draw by adjusting the airflow.

The nexPOD has a 650mAh rechargeable battery that recharges with Type-C charging. You can expect to vape less than one full pod on a full charge before the draw gets noticeably weaker. I can’t say how much ejuice you can actually vape on a single charge because the pods are opaque and don’t allow you to see inside. In terms of days, you can probably get a few days out of a full charge if you’re a medium to heavy vaper.

Flavors

The nexPOD has 18 prefilled pod flavors available and there are some interesting options in there. Instead of sticking to just fruits, Wotofo offers unique flavors that set the nexPOD apart from the rest of the competition. Some of the most interesting flavors include Sakura Milk, Monster Ice, and Mango Yogurt Ice. Of course, there are some ‘regular’ flavors like mango pear, three melons, and even a caramel tobacco flavor. The 18 flavor options are:

For this review I’m going to be going over five of these flavors. I’m going to describe how each flavor tastes to me and what I think of them. Keep in mind that just because I like a flavor does not mean that you will like it, and vice-versa. This is solely my subjective opinion.

Forest Berries

Forest berries is a very sweet and strong mix of raspberries and blueberries. It’s very rich and delivers ‘wet’ vapor that rests on your tongue long after you exhale. If you’re into sweet flavors then this is one to try, but personally I found it too sweet. It tastes great but it’s not a flavor that I can vape on all day long without feeling sick.

Caramel Tobacco

Caramel Tobacco tastes like you’re pulling on a nice cigar. I don’t taste much of the caramel flavor because it’s very subtle, but it adds a nice second dimension to the taste. For a tobacco flavor this is really good. Although not like smoking a cigarette, the cigar taste is addictively good.

Pina Colada

This flavor is one of my favorites. Pineapple and coconut with a hint of rum flavor — you really can’t go wrong. It’s just like sipping on the alcoholic beverage of the same name. Super accurate in taste and even better because it will last longer than the drink. If you like Pina Colada and getting caught in the rain, get this flavor.

Three Melons

Watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew all mix equally together to deliver a mellow but tasty combination. No one fruit takes over so it’s a nice in and out of all of the flavors throughout the inhale and exhale. Not too sweet either, so it’s good for an all day vape.

Mango Pear

Mango is definitely the strongest flavor in this mix but a light pear follows throughout the inhale and exhale. If you’re getting this flavor for the pear taste then you’ll be let down but if you like mango then it’s a really good flavor. The pear adds a twist to the flavor profile which makes it a little different than other mango flavors out there.

Performance

The nexPOD has been a consistent and reliable device for the past few weeks that I’ve been using it. 

By definition it’s a pod vape that takes pre filled pods, but my experience with it has felt more like a large-capacity disposable vape than anything. The benefit with the nexPOD though is that you can switch out the flavor as quickly as you can switch out the pod. This is certainly more convenient than carrying multiple bottles of ejuice with you, and definitely more convenient than carrying multiple disposables around.

As I mentioned before, the nexPOD is so named because the pods use nexMESH coils inside. As a result, the flavor is extremely good and true to the flavor profiles of the pods. Vapor is warm but not too warm, and the draw can be adjusted to just where I want it; a medium-tight MTL draw. 

I’ve used a few of these pods for days at a time and so I can only imagine that they’re beginning to run low. But even after days of use, the flavor and vapor has stayed consistent. The flavor doesn’t drop off and the satisfaction from the pods is still there even after hundreds of puffs.

 Wotofo says that each pod can deliver 3500 puffs but I haven’t used any of the pods nearly that much to be able to say whether this is true or not. However, from the 8ml capacity, I would imagine that the 3500 puff count is at least somewhat accurate.

The only tangible con that I’ve had with the nexPOD has been a small amount of eliquid collecting in the battery, under the pod. Shoving a paper towel in there to clean it out is simple enough, but it still makes me concerned about longer use of the pods. 

Verdict

Overall the nexPOD is like any other pod vape but with the added convenience of prefilled pods. Whether this is a pro or a con will depend on if you prefer to use your own ejuices or not, but I can see the nexPOD as being attractive for disposable users who want a less wasteful and more convenient option. 

Instead of carrying around multiple disposables with you in order to have access to different flavors, you can instead carry around the nexPOD and the much smaller pods. Plus, the flavor and nicotine satisfaction are there thanks to the use of nexMESH coils so you’re not compromising on the experience.

My main cons with the nexPOD are that there’s a bit of leaking after prolonged use of the pods, and of course, that the pods are opaque so you have no idea how much ejuice you have left. The pods are an easy fix though so hopefully Wotofo releases clear pods in the future to remedy this glaring issue.

Overall, the nexPOD is highly recommended.
