Wotofo Profile X RTA Review: A True Mesh-terpiece

Unofficially dubbed by some in the vaping community as ‘The King of Mesh’, Wotofo has added another exceptional device to its popular Profile series – the Profile X RTA. 

Wotofo is a leading vaping company that produces high-end e-cigarettes, coils, and accessories. Established in 2012, Wotofo has quickly become a prominent player in the vaping industry, renowned for its innovative designs and cutting-edge technology. 

Wotofo’s Profile range is a series of rebuildable atomizers that feature innovative mesh coil systems. These devices have gained popularity among vapers for their exceptional flavor production and ease of use. The Profile range includes various models such as the Profile PS RDA, Profile 1.5 RDA, Profile M RTA, and the latest addition, the Profile X RTA. 

In this personally tested review, I’ll delve deep into this rebuildable tank atomizer, which promises unparalleled flavor and vapor production. The Profile X is a 28mm diameter RTA which is meant to be used primarily with mesh coils. It can, however, also be used for single coil builds.

As soon as I opened the box of the Profile X, I was immediately impressed by its sleek and modern design. The matte black finish and minimalist look gave the device a premium feel, and I couldn’t wait to start building and vaping with it. I was also impressed with the abundance of freebies that came included with the Profile X. It felt as though Wotofo really wants to get you wicked and ready as soon as you open the box, showing a good understanding of consumer needs.

Upon opening the box, you will find the cotton, coils, and accessories in three bags, alongside a separately packaged cross-head screwdriver and a mesh bending kit. 

The coils and cotton are an excellent addition to the package, as they make it easier for beginners to start building on the RTA right away without needing to purchase annoying extras.

Design & Build Quality

The Profile X RTA is constructed from high-quality materials, with a durable stainless steel frame and Pyrex glass tank. 

The materials used in the construction of the Profile X RTA are of exceptional quality and feel premium to the touch, but it doesn’t stop there. The stainless steel frame has a polished finish that competes aesthetically with the best RTA’s on the market.

The Profile X RTA features a convenient top-fill system that makes it easy to fill the tank with e-juice. The top cap is threaded and can be unscrewed to reveal the fill ports. Its textured design makes it easy to grip and unscrew, a quarter turn to ensure no leakages, and easy to refill. The top cap is made from stainless steel and has a polished finish.

The drip tip is an essential part of any vape tank, and the Profile X RTA comes with a wide-bore 810 resin drip tip that is both comfortable and functional. It is possible to remove, meaning the drip tip is fully customizable with any 810 design you choose.

The Profile X features a Pyrex glass tank that is durable and resistant to wear and tear, although, as with any glass product, extra care needs to be taken to ensure no breakage. The standard glass tank has a 5ml e-juice capacity, which can be extended to 8ml with the bubble glass (included in the box).

Airflow

The Profile X RTA features adjustable, honeycomb airflow control that allows users to fine-tune the draw to their liking. The airflow control is located at the top of the tank and features two large honeycomb airflow slots that can be adjusted by rotating the ring. The airflow control system is well-designed and delivers a smooth and consistent DL vape.

Build Deck

The build deck of the Wotofo Profile X RTA is where the magic happens. It uses the same mesh coil technology as the Profile RDA and Unity RTA but with an improved build deck that makes crafting and wicking a breeze.

The deck has two clamps positioned symmetrically on each side of the device and secured by screws that are easy to loosen and tighten. The RTA also features a spring-loaded ceramic plate that sits under the mesh coil and ensures that the coil is always in contact with the cotton wick.

A spring-loaded base makes coil installation more manageable and provides consistent coil contact with the build deck and cotton material, making better and more consistent performance.

The deck can accommodate a wide range of small and large coil sizes and types, making it easy to experiment with different builds.

Building on the Profile X RTA

The RTA is easy to build and wick, making it perfect for beginners who want to create their coils. The process can be tricky at first, but with the easy-to-understand manual and a plethora of online content on the Wotofo youtube page, you’ll be re-wicking at a pro level in no time.

After speaking to those who own this tank, it’s clear that many have their own tips and tricks on the best way to build and wick this RTA. Below, I have included a step-by-step guide on how I felt the Profile X should be wicked using a mesh coil:

1. Choose the right mesh strip: Wotofo provides different types of mesh strips and wire coils with varying resistance levels. Choose the one that suits your vaping style and preferences.
2. Shape the mesh coil with the coil tool: Locate the mesh coil tool and bend the mesh strip around this tool so it creates an even curve. 
3. Install the mesh strip: Open the clamp posts and slide the mesh strip in between them. Make sure the mesh is lined up correctly and flush with the posts. Tighten the clamp posts to hold the mesh strip securely in place.
4. Prepare the mesh strip: Once the mesh strip is in place, use ceramic tweezers to pulse the mesh coil and remove any hotspots gently.
5. Insert the cotton: Thread the prepared cotton through the mesh coil and into the wicking channels. Ensure the cotton is tight enough and evenly distributed throughout the wicking channels.
6. Trim the cotton: Once the cotton is in place, cut and trim the excess cotton. Ensure that there is enough cotton to prevent any leaking but not too much that it will restrict the wicking process.
7. Prime the cotton: Prime the cotton by saturating it with e-juice. This will ensure that the cotton is adequately saturated before you begin vaping.
8. Re-build, fill, and vape: Screw and click the top of the tank over the base, fill the tank with your desired e-juice, and vape away!

Performance

The part you’ve all been waiting for; the performance. To provide a well-rounded review of this Profile X, I decided to break the performance down into manageable chunks, starting with the flavor and vapor production.

The Wotofo Profile X RTA is an absolute flavor monster. The mesh coil technology and the honeycomb airflow design produce terrific flavor and vapor production. 

My favorite coil was the included ‘Extreme’ mesh coil which boasts a consistent and precise 0.16-ohm reading.

Regarding flavor, vaping on the Profile X gives you the sensation of trying a brand new e-juice flavor every time, no matter how long you’ve been vaping it. 

For instance, the popular Heisenburg flavor from Vampire Vape boasts a blend of berries and an excellent menthol hint. When I tried it on the Profile X, I could distinctly taste each berry in the mix, a feat I had never experienced with other RTAs.

The Profile X produces a smooth and consistent draw, and as long as it’s wicked correctly and the tank is full, it provides no dry hits. As all vapors know, pre-draw, dry-hit anxiety is real, but I’m happy to report that I didn’t once experience any dry hit in the entire ten days of usage.

In my opinion, the ‘sweet spot’ for airflow was with six holes exposed. This provided a perfectly smooth and satisfying DTL hit with enough vapor to cloud even the clearest summer skies.

What is the best wattage to use with the Profile X?

The Profile X performs exceptionally well at around 60-65 watts, using the ‘Extreme’ 0.16 ohms mesh coil. Although it allows high wattages, there was an apparent decrease in flavor levels after every increment past 65 watts.

The Clapton coils included with the Profile X work well, but if you want the complete flavor experience, consider using mesh coils.

Is the Profile X prone to leaks?

While using the Profile X, I experienced only one instance of leakage. This occurred during my initial attempt at building the device and was likely due to my failure to follow the instructions properly. This shows the importance of carefully following the instructions when properly wicking this RTA. 

After fully educating myself on this process, however, I did not experience any further leakages. After speaking to others in the vaping community, it was clear that as long as it’s wicked properly, there is a meager chance of leakage with the Profile X.

Verdict

The Wotofo Profile X RTA is a remarkable piece of hardware that delivers unparalleled flavor and performance. Its top-notch build quality and design and versatile and user-friendly build deck make it an excellent choice for novice and experienced vapers.

Whether using the clapton coils or the mesh coils, this tank provides incredible flavor. The experience made me fall in love with e-juice flavors again, rather than just purchasing the same go-to-tastes every week.

This RTA is an ideal starting point for beginners curious about the world of rebuildable tanks. For experienced vapers, its exceptional performance and quality make it a great option. The clamp-style build deck of the Profile X RTA makes it simple to install mesh coils and traditional coils, although it can be challenging to wick initially. Wicking can be tricky, and improper wicking can lead to dry hits or leaking issues.

The adjustable airflow system can also be a little loud when fully open, which may bother some users or nearby people.

Overall though, if you’re seeking a high-quality RTA that provides incredible flavor and vapor production, the Wotofo Profile X RTA is a must-consider piece of kit. Just remember to follow the instructions, unlike myself!
